[Touch-packages] [Bug 1939013] Re: Xorg freezes in the lock screen

2021-08-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If you can still move the mouse then Xorg hasn't crashed, but gnome-
shell has.

Next time the problem happens, please:

1. Wait 10 seconds.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

4. Attach the resulting text file here.

5. Also follow these instructions to report any recent crashes:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

Title:
  Screen freezes in the lock screen

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When locking my screen, I often get the lock screen that freezes. I am
  able to move my mouse but I can't interact with anything on the
  screen.

  After "smashing" my keyboard (I press enter/space) sometimes the
  screen locks out and I can type my password to login into my system
  again. When I can't I have to reboot my system.

  This seems to have started a few weeks ago on hirsute hippo and
  unfortunately, I can't find a pattern to reproduce this issue.

  After upgrading linux-firmware from 1.190.5 to 1.197 (as part of the

  and severe GPU instability. When this happens, I see this error in

  I'll attach a couple of full dmesgs that I collected.

  Many of the times when this happens, the screen and keyboard freeze
  irreversibly (I tried waiting for more than 30 minutes, but it doesn't
  help). I can still log in via ssh though. When there's no freeze, I
  can continue using the computer normally, but the laptop fans keep
  running are always running and the battery depletes fast. There's
  probably something on a permanent loop either in the kernel or in the
  GPU.

  This bug happens several times a day, rendering the machine so
  unstable as to be almost unusable. It is a severe regression and I'm
  aghast that it passed AMD's Quality Assurance.

  After downgrading back to linux-firmware 1.190.5, the machine is back
  to the previous, mostly-reliable state. Which is to say, this bug is
  gone, I'm just left with the other amdgpu suspend bug I've learned to
  live with since I bought this computer.

  Please revert the amdgpu firmware in this package as soon as possible.
  This is unbearable.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938886] Re: rrr:no dh_strip or strip loose setuid bit

2021-08-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package debhelper - 13.3.4ubuntu2

debhelper (13.3.4ubuntu2) impish; urgency=medium

  * objcopy/strip changed in 2.36.1, not keeping file attributes of the
original file. Work around that in dh_strip to write to a temporary
file, copying attributes, cat'ing this to the original file, copying
attributes again to keep the original attributes. LP: #1938886

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938588] Re: Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 install fails: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to errata

2021-08-05 Thread Chris Iverach-Brereton
That's disappointing, but understandable. Is there any chance you could
provide me with a link to a guide to explain how I could edit the ISO on
my own to make a custom ISO for these boards? I've already got some
customized preseed files anyway, so making further modifications to the
base Ubuntu Server image isn't a big deal. I just don't know what the
exact process for adding the microcode would be.

My previous efforts using the example script from
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/x86/microcode.html to add the
microcode to initrd weren't successful. But I'm not even sure if that's
the correct process, or if there's an easier/better way to do it.

Thanks!

  we are unable to install Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 on. When we boot from
  the installation media we get the following error and the installation
  hangs (see attached screenshot, I've transcribed the error below too)

  ```
  [0.00] [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update
  ```

  Googling the microcode bug, the normal advice appears to be "boot into
  an older, functioning kernel, update the `intel-microcode` package,
  and then reboot." But in this situation there is no older kernel to
  boot into; there is no OS installed _at all_ on these boards yet. I'm
  booting from a USB drive loaded with the latest version of Ubuntu
  Server 18.04.

  The only work-around I've found that works so far is to install Ubuntu
  Desktop 18.04, which can boot successfully on these boards, perform
  the minimal desktop installation, then use the desktop install to
  update the `intel-microcode` package, reboot, and then finally install
  Ubuntu Server. This is obviously not convenient needing to install a
  complete desktop OS just so I can update the microcode, and then
  immediately wiping it to install what I wanted in the first place.

  I have not tried Ubuntu 20.x or 21.x; I need to use Ubuntu 18.04
  because these motherboards are being installed into robots that will
  be running ROS Melodic (ROS Noetic runs on 20.04, but these robots
  don't have Noetic support yet).

  I have tried the following to modify the Ubuntu Server ISO, without
  success:

  1- Adding the microcode to initrd
  ---

  I unpacked the contents of the Ubuntu Server ISO, decompressed
  install/initrd.gz, and used the bash script here
  https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/x86/microcode.html to add the
  intel-microcode firmware to the image. Then I recompressed initrd.gz,
  and rebuild the ISO using xorisso. This did not have any effect:
  Ubuntu Server still encountered the same error when trying to install.

  2- Using initrd from Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.5
  --

  I downloaded & unpacked Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.5 and replaced Ubuntu
  Server's install/initrd.gz with Ubuntu Desktop's casper/initrd
  (updating txt.cfg and grub.cfg to load the uncompressed initrd instead
  of the .gz that Ubuntu Server normally uses). Then I rebuilt the
  Ubuntu Server with xorisso again.

  The resulted in the system booting, but immediately dropping into an
  initramfs busybox shell, saying boot files were missing. I assume
  this is because Ubuntu Server uses the `boot=casper` flag in order to
  boot into the live desktop session.

  At this point I'm running out of ideas for how to be able to make Ubuntu
Server's installation media work with these boards. Ubuntu Desktop has no
problem booting on them, so it's obviously something specific to the Ubuntu
Server image, but I'm not sure exactly what or how to fix it.

  If you need any additional information/logs/etc... please let me know
  and I'll be happy to provide them.

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938588] Re: Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 install fails: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to errata

2021-08-05 Thread Brian Murray
We are looking at updating the server iso for the 20.04.3 point release
which is coming up in a couple of weeks. However, there are no further
point releases of 18.04 (and subsequently new isos) scheduled so this is
unlikely to be fixed for that release.

Title:
  Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 install fails: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to
  errata

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  We have several factory-fresh Mitac industrial motherboards
  (https://www.mitacmct.com/IndustrialMotherboard_PH13FEI_PH13FEI) that
  we are unable to install Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 on. When we boot from
  the installation media we get the following error and the installation
  hangs (see attached screenshot, I've transcribed the error below too)

  ```
  [0.00] [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update
microcode to version: 0x52 (or later)
  [0.157025] ACPI Exception: AE_BAD_PARAMETER, Could not install PciConfig
handler for Root Bridge PCI0 (20170831/evrgnini-241)
  ```

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938144] Re: monitor_read: unpermitted request 48 on server while attempting GSSAPI key exchange

2021-08-05 Thread Athos Ribeiro
Hi Niklas,

Thanks for putting in the effort into finding a reproducer for the
reported issue.

I could indeed reproduce the issue you have been experiencing. I am
attaching a couple scripts to aid others to reproduce the bug (this
includes a README file with further instructions).

Interestingly, if you swap the preferred authentications order to read

PreferredAuthentications=gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic

The bug will not manifest itself.

Next, I will verify if other branches at https://github.com/openssh-
gsskex/openssh-gsskex are also affected. If this is the case, we should
report the issue there.

Bug description:
  [impact]

  - ALL related HA software has a small problem if interfaces are being
  managed by systemd-networkd: nic restarts/reconfigs are always going
  to wipe all interfaces aliases when HA software is not expecting it to
  (no coordination between them.

  - keepalived, smb ctdb, pacemaker, all suffer from this. Pacemaker is
  smarter in this case because it has a service monitor that will
  restart the virtual IP resource, in affected node & nic, before
  considering a real failure, but other HA service might consider a real
  failure when it is not.

  [test case]

  - comment #14 is a full test case: to have 3 node pacemaker, in that
  example, and cause a networkd service restart: it will trigger a
  failure for the virtual IP resource monitor.

  - other example is given in the original description for keepalived.
  both suffer from the same issue (and other HA softwares as well).

  [regression potential]

  - this backports KeepConfiguration parameter, which adds some
  significant complexity to networkd's configuration and behavior, which
  could lead to regressions in correctly configuring the network at
  networkd start, or incorrectly maintaining configuration at networkd
  restart, or losing network state at networkd stop.

  - Any regressions are most likely to occur during networkd start,
  restart, or stop, and most likely to involve missing or incorrect ip
  address(es).

  - the change is based in upstream patches adding the exact feature we
  needed to fix this issue & it will be integrated with a netplan change
  to add the needed stanza to systemd nic configuration file
  (KeepConfiguration=)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1815101] Re: [master] Restarting systemd-networkd breaks keepalived, heartbeat, corosync, pacemaker (interface aliases are restarted)

> Now I need to have IP and gateway in two files - /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml
> and
> /etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-ens160.network

to clarify, don't do that, you should create a systemd-networkd 'drop-
in' instead of copying/modifying the file.

For example, if the networkd config filename for your interface is
'10-netplan-ens160.network' (regardless of which directory it's located
in), you should create a new file '/etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-
ens160.network.d/override.conf' with only the content you want to
add/modify, specifically in this case:

---
[Network]
KeepConfiguration=static
---

For more detail on systemd-networkd 'drop-in' files, see 'man
systemd.network' in the first paragraph.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1939013] [NEW] Xorg freezes in the lock screen

2021-08-05 Thread Toto Bille
Public bug reported:

When locking my screen, I often get the lock screen that freezes. I am
able to move my mouse but I can't interact with anything on the screen.

After "smashing" my keyboard (I press enter/space) sometimes the screen
locks out and I can type my password to login into my system again. When
I can't I have to reboot my system.

This seems to have started a few weeks ago on hirsute hippo and
unfortunately, I can't find a pattern to reproduce this issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1815101] Re: [master] Restarting systemd-networkd breaks keepalived, heartbeat, corosync, pacemaker (interface aliases are restarted)

2021-08-05 Thread Maanus Kask
I am using netplan - default in bionic.
I added the repo, made update and reboot.
'systemctl restart systemd-networkd' resulted with keepalived VIP lost.

I added following file and rebooted:
/etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-ens160.network :
---
[Match]
Name=ens160

[Network]
KeepConfiguration=static
---
Network did not come up after reboot.

changed /etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-ens160.network and rebooted:
---
[Match]
Name=ens160

[Network]
Address=10.1.1.233/29
Gateway=10.1.1.238
KeepConfiguration=static
---
'systemctl restart systemd-networkd' did not have any bad results - keepalived
VIP remained as expected.

Now I need to have IP and gateway in two files -
/etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml and /etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-
ens160.network

  The bug seems to occur when clicking on a file or folder. It is random and
difficult to provide clear steps to reproduce. It is, however, a common
situation.

  EXPECTED RESULTS

  pcmanfm works without problem.

  ACTUAL RESULTS
  ==
  All pcmanfm windows become unresponsive, though background processes (e.g.

~/.cache/lxsession/LXDE/run.log:

  [xcb] Unknown sequence number while processing queue
  [xcb] Most likely this is a multi-threaded client and XInitThreads has not
been called
  [xcb] Aborting, sorry about that.

  (note the timestamp on the message will vary)

  AFFECTED VERSIONS
  =
  1.2.5-3ubuntu1
  NOT 1.2.4-1ubuntu0.1

  UPSTREAM BUG

  https://sourceforge.net/p/pcmanfm/bugs/1089/

  ADDITIONAL NOTES

  Other GTK2 file managers (e.g. Thunar) and applications (e.g. GIMP, Leafpad)
seem to have the same problems. This is probably at least rooted in a GTK2 bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1808710

  To further assert this, note that there is a SpaceFM file manager that
  is available in GTK2 and GTK3. The GTK2 version displays the behavior.
  The GTK3 version does not. Same with LibreOffice.
