[Touch-packages] [Bug 1774632] Re: The symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf points to the wrong file by default

2021-08-17 Thread Zhuokun Yang
OS: Ubuntu 18.04 bionic
Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.19.17

For those who encounter situations otherwise, here is my case and
workarounds.

my case:
---
 /etc/resolv.conf -> ../run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

I remove the symlink and assign a new one
 /etc/resolv.conf -> /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf
reboot, and the /etc/resolv.conf says there is NO DNS SERVER. DNS Lookup is
completeny unusable at this point.

If it points to the stub-resolv.conf variant, it seems that the
systemd-resolved is not working properly, at 127.0.0.53.
---

my solution:
---
1. remove the symlink,
2. replace it with a solid file, either empty or with a line `nameserver
8.8.8.8`
3. reboot

and what you will see is a autogenerated resolv.conf made by
NetworkManager, which changes dynaminally depending on what network you
are connected to.

using netstat -tunlp to grep the nameserver in the file, you may see
```
tcp0  0 127.0.1.1:530.0.0.0:*   LISTEN
1604/dnsmasq
udp0  0 127.0.1.1:530.0.0.0:*
1604/dnsmasq
```
which is also recommended in a lot of threads in askubuntu (i.e. google enable
dns cache in ubuntu).

Title:
  The symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf points to the wrong file by default

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  When using nslookup for local machine names, the local DNS was being
  ignored (not queried) and none of the local machines could be found.

  After much research and digging, it was discovered that the cause was
  the incorrect symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf file.

  The default install caused systemd-resolve to configure the link to point to
the stub file:
  /etc/resolv.conf -> ../run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf

  Reomving that link and pointing it to the correct file solved the DNS lookup
issue. The correct link looks like this:
  /etc/resolv.conf -> /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf

  Steps used to test the bug before fixing the link is to perform an nslookup
on a local (non FQDN) machine that is in your local DNS (my router is my DNS
server for this case) Here is an example of the incorrect output:

  $ nslookup web1

  Server: 127.0.0.53
  Address:127.0.0.53#53

  ** server can't find web1: SERVFAIL

  Switching the symbolic link solves the problem. Here is my solution:

  $ sudo rm -f /etc/resolv.conf
  $ sudo ln -s /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf

  After switching the symbolic link, the nslookup functions properly.

  $ nslookup web1

  Server: 192.168.1.1
  Address:192.168.1.1#53

  Name:   web1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1505670] Re: "uncaptured python exception"

2021-08-17 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
@Rolf and others, thanks for all the testing done so far. Since the
importance is set to Low I do not believe we will have time to tackle
this anytime soon, but I'd be happy to sponsor a fixed package if anyone
wants to work on it. In order to land this fix we would need to follow
the SRU process:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Once we have the SRU bug description in place and a debdiff, we can
review the and sponsor your work.

  isc-dhcp-client denied by apparmor

Status in isc-dhcp package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi, I get weird errors in the audit log, seeing dhclient is being
  denied reading its comm or the comm of one of its tasks:

requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=0 ouid=0

  This might or might not be linked with the fact that I can't get an
  IPv4 on this interface. Note that it happened to other, see this
  comment:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1413232/comments/8

  Or even an article recommending disabling apparmor for dhclient(!):

https://blog.anthony-jacob.com/perte-dip-v4-sous-ubuntu-20-04-apparmor-et-dhclient/

  As I said, I'm not sure this is the root cause of the lack of IPv4 renewal,
because running it manually *does* succeed in getting an IP. And running it in
strace shows the EACCES failure:

  [pid 1095210] openat(AT_FDCWD, "/proc/self/task/1095211/comm", O_RDWRstrace:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1940304] Re: package openssh-client 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.2 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2

2021-08-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938588] Re: Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 install fails: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to errata

2021-08-17 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
inclusion of the package on the iso is one thing; it is a different
thing to build the boot initrd with microcode included. I do not believe
that d-i base installation media ever create d-i initrd with microcode
included. Thus even if package is included on the ISO it will not be
present in the d-i initrd.

Live based isos all should have microcode in the initrd they boot.

Given that the boards are buggy, it's best to download the firmware
update from your motherboard manufacturer to update the firmware & cpu
microcode of the board itself using like Freedos boot. Then from that
point on, all/any boots and installs of anything will at least have
working microcode.

Bug description:
  We have several factory-fresh Mitac industrial motherboards
  (https://www.mitacmct.com/IndustrialMotherboard_PH13FEI_PH13FEI) that
  we are unable to install Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 on. When we boot from
  the installation media we get the following error and the installation
  hangs (see attached screenshot, I've transcribed the error below too)

  ```
  [0.00] [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update
microcode to version: 0x52 (or later)
  [0.157025] ACPI Exception: AE_BAD_PARAMETER, Could not install PciConfig
handler for Root Bridge PCI0 (20170831/evrgnini-241)
  ```

  Googling the microcode bug, the normal advice appears to be "boot into
  an older, functioning kernel, update the `intel-microcode` package,
  and then reboot." But in this situation there is no older kernel to
  boot into; there is no OS installed _at all_ on these boards yet. I'm
  booting from a USB drive loaded with the latest version of Ubuntu
  Server 18.04.

  The only work-around I've found that works so far is to install Ubuntu
  Desktop 18.04, which can boot successfully on these boards, perform
  the minimal desktop installation, then use the desktop install to
  update the `intel-microcode` package, reboot, and then finally install
  Ubuntu Server. This is obviously not convenient needing to install a
  complete desktop OS just so I can update the microcode, and then
  immediately wiping it to install what I wanted in the first place.

  I have not tried Ubuntu 20.x or 21.x; I need to use Ubuntu 18.04
  because these motherboards are being installed into robots that will
  be running ROS Melodic (ROS Noetic runs on 20.04, but these robots
  don't have Noetic support yet).

  I have tried the following to modify the Ubuntu Server ISO, without
  success:

  1- Adding the microcode to initrd
  ---

  I unpacked the contents of the Ubuntu Server ISO, decompressed
  install/initrd.gz, and used the bash script here
  https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/x86/microcode.html to add the
  intel-microcode firmware to the image. Then I recompressed initrd.gz,
  and rebuild the ISO using xorisso. This did not have any effect:
  Ubuntu Server still encountered the same error when trying to install.

  2- Using initrd from Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.5
  --

  I downloaded & unpacked Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.5 and replaced Ubuntu
  Server's install/initrd.gz with Ubuntu Desktop's casper/initrd
  (updating txt.cfg and grub.cfg to load the uncompressed initrd instead
  of the .gz that Ubuntu Server normally uses). Then I rebuilt the
  Ubuntu Server with xorisso again.

  The resulted in the system booting, but immediately dropping into an
  initramfs busybox shell, saying boot files were missing. I assume
  this is because Ubuntu Server uses the `boot=casper` flag in order to
  boot into the live desktop session.

  At this point I'm running out of ideas for how to be able to make Ubuntu
Server's installation media work with these boards. Ubuntu Desktop has no
problem booting on them, so it's obviously something specific to the Ubuntu
Server image, but I'm not sure exactly what or how to fix it.

  If you need any additional information/logs/etc... please let me know
  and I'll be happy to provide them.

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1939940] Re: package openssh-server 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.3 failed to install/upgrade: installed openssh-server package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status

2021-08-17 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello and thanks for this bug report. By reading the bug description it
looks like there is an issue in your sshd_config:

SSHDConfig: Error: command ['/usr/sbin/sshd', '-T'] failed with exit
code 255: /etc/ssh/sshd_config line 15: Badly formatted port number.

If sshd was working before it may be that the service wasn't restarted
after the breaking config change. The upgrade triggered a restart and
thus the failure.

I'm setting this bug report as Incomplete for now. Should you think that
this is actually a bug in Ubuntu and not a local configuration issue
please comment back providing your reasoning and a sshd_config line
that reproduces the issue in a clean Ubuntu system.

On the other hand should you find out this is actually a local
configuration issue please set the status of this bug report to Invalid.
Thanks!

Hello and thanks for your bug report. From the attached logs it seems
that you have syntax errors in your sshd_config

If sshd was working before it may be that the service wasn't restarted
after the breaking config change. The upgrade triggered a restart and

I'm setting this bug report as Incomplete for now. Should you think that
this is actually a bug in Ubuntu and not a local configuration issue

  Can't log in every time lightdm Xubuntu 20.04.2.1

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I select my username on the login screen, enter my password, the password
field becomes inactive and nothing happens. If I try a second time by switching
to "other user" and then back to myself, filling in the password again, it
sometimes logs in and other times prints a message saying login failed. Then I
have to restart via the console, which also takes an unreasonable amount of
time.
  Also, there is a mysterious "Guest" account that I didn't create, which is
not in the user list, and also requires a password, which I couldn't find
anywhere on the internet.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1929184] Re: [21.10 FEAT] RoCE: Predictable Interface Names - systemd part

2021-08-17 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From boris.m...@de.ibm.com 2021-08-17 06:07 EDT---
This feature (systemd part) will not be integrated in 21.10 (see comment #6
and#7), therefore moving to U22.04.
Canonical will add a release note to reflect changes and limitations due to the
fact, that only the kernel part of this feature will make it into 21.10.

Changing Target Milestone: 21.10 -> 22.04

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1938983] Re: missing modules after 5.11.0-25-generic update

2021-08-17 Thread MikeR
possible workaround:
open https://anduin.linuxfromscratch.org/sources/linux-firmware/i915/
and then either
1. select the missing files and download them to /lib/firmware/i915/
or
2. download the entire directory to a temporary location, and create a shell
file from the list of missing files to copy only the missing files to
/lib/firmware/i915
(thats what I did, as it seemed safer)

then try "$ sudo update-initramfs -u -k all" (without the quotes.)

NOT a clean solution, but it got rid of the error messages.
Else: wait for a supported solution

  and send the report, this is the error code I got, telling me the bug
  report was "corrupted":

  OSError('Invalid core dump: BFD: Warning: /tmp/apport_core_k0d_6whr is
  truncated: expected core file size >= 244244480, found: 133234688.',)
