[Touch-packages] [Bug 1981622] Re: mtd device must be supplied (device name is empty)
Same here, recent upgrade message appears. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1981622 Title: mtd device must be supplied (device name is empty) Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in systemd source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Bug description: [WORKAROUND] This will NOT fix a system that is not booting, because the "mtd device must be supplied (device name is empty)" message is not the cause of failed boots. This work around is only for those who are annoyed by the error message, but are otherwise not experiencing any issues. If you are not able to boot your system, but you see this error message, please open a separate bug with your journalctl and dmesg logs. # cp /{lib,etc}/systemd/system/systemd-pstore.service # sed -i 's/modprobe@mtdpstore.service //' /etc/systemd/system/systemd-pstore.service # systemctl daemon-reload [Impact] Due to mtdpstore not being properly configured as a pstore backend, when systemd-pstore.service tries to load the module, users get the following error in dmesg: [ 18.453473] systemd[1]: Starting Load Kernel Module mtdpstore... [ 18.462685] mtd device must be supplied (device name is empty) This is a distracting error for users trying to diagnose other system issues, especially if their system does not boot after a kernel crash and this is the only message displayed on the console. [Test Plan] * Force a kernel crash to populate /sys/fs/pstore, thus causing systemd-pstore.service to start on the subsequent boot: # echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq # echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/panic # echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger * When the system reboots, observe the error in dmesg: # dmesg | grep mtd [Where problems could occur] If a system was relying on this pstore backend, and mtdpstore is built as a module, it is possible for systemd-pstore.service to trigger before mtdpstore is loaded, causing systemd-pstore to not copy the contents of /sys/fs/pstore. Note however that before the patched introduced as a result of bug 1978079, systemd-pstore.service would not attempt to load *any* kernel modules. [Original Description] After updating my 22.04 system (possibly caused by Systemd update). And now booting, dmesg has two errors: 'mtd device must be supplied (device name is empty)'. See line 8 and 134 in the included logfile. The system are booting as it should though, and the system are working like it should no errors at all. Is this maybe caused by 'efi-pstore-not-cleared-on-boot.patch' in systemd? I have an EFI mounted at boot but it isn't used because I have installed my system in legacy BIOS mode. Is this maybe the culprit? I could ignore the message but it isn't nice though. Public bug reported: The Lenovo Yoga 7 Gen 7 (14ARB7) has 4 speakers - 2 trebles and 2 basses. The treble speakers work, but the bass ones don't. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1615381] Re: apt-get autoremove may remove current kernel
As told before, the issue seems to be fixed even in apt 1.6.14, but I tested the proposed 1.6.17 anyway. Autoremove did not (try to) remove current kernel even with that one, but it removes one more kernel than the old one (which is desired by developers, I assume). ** Tags removed: verification-needed-bionic ** Tags added: verification-done-bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unattended-upgrades in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1615381 Title: apt-get autoremove may remove current kernel Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unattended-upgrades source package in Trusty: Won't Fix Status in unattended-upgrades source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in unattended-upgrades source package in Artful: Won't Fix Status in apt source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in apt source package in Focal: Fix Released Status in apt source package in Groovy: Fix Released Status in apt source package in Hirsute: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] APT will try and fail to remove the currently running kernel, when booted into an older kernel that is not protected. May wreak some havoc if mixed with other operations to the point that apt goes weird and needs manual fixing up. [Test case] For the SRUs we have included an automated test case that starts with an empty autoremove config file, and then checks that the running kernel is protected at runtime. You can also test manually, but it's not necessary: - Install new kernel - Reboot into kernel not listed as protected in 01autoremove-kernels - Run autoremove [Where problems could occur] We may more easily run out of space in /boot. hirsute has new autoremoval code that runs completely at runtime; but that seems a bit large to SRU after only a few weeks in hirsute. Hence, we should protect the current kernel _in addition_ to the other kernels, just like unattended-upgrades and update-manager do. This increases the risk of filling up /boot compared to older apt versions, but is at the same level as unattended-upgrades and update-manager. [Original bug report] This may happen, if you boot one of the older kernels, that is not protected by /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels Workaround: run /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal during each boot (e.g. by using cron). Note: The workaround breaks autoremoving feature of new unneeded kernels in unattended-upgrades i.e. the setting 'Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true"' (which is default in 16.04 unless 'Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "true"' is set in '/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades'. In shell: $ uname -r 4.4.0-22-generic $ apt-get -s autoremove NOTE: This is only a simulation! apt-get needs root privileges for real execution. Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1987939] Re: Suspend does not work with Wayland. OK with Xorg
My problem is that my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5-1570 in dual boot mode would not come out of suspend if Wayland was active. Behavior is fine with Xorg. Suspend requires a hard reset. I was not sure what package to use for the ubuntu-bug report. It could have been mutter I suppose. To recreate the problem, I'd have to enable Wayland. There's no "crash" per se, just a hard reset. If you can specify what files to send and where to send them, I can try. However, I'm not keen on risking possible file system corruption. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965219] Re: gnome lock screen does not permit reentering password
Seeing exactly the same symptoms on a machine upgraded to 22.04, with wayland. Definitely seems suspend-related, but I haven't figured out what the problem is, yet. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965219 Title: gnome lock screen does not permit reentering password Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Initially, only the mouse works in the gnome lock screen, without any way to get a password prompt. It's likely only happening when returning from suspend with lid open. It's possible to ssh into the machine or to press Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F?? and login without gnome. After this, Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F1 brings up a purple ubuntu login screen, but then after login you simply return to the lock screen with no working keyboard. I never found any method to force unlock from ssh or another vt though, so this always still required a reboot, or killing all of gnome. I've randomly tried some solutions from https://askubuntu.com/questions/1242110/after-upgrading-to- ubuntu-20-04-lockscreen-not-working including reinstalling many gnome components. After this, the behavior initially disappeared by returning from suspend merely took a long time, like 30 seconds or 1 minute. It's possible the delay stems from memory size, but a previous identical lenovo x1 had no such problems. I've now a worse problem just a few hours later where unsuspend went directly to a purple ubuntu login screen, but neither the mouse nor keyboard worked. I've not yet been able to test ssh on this problem. It's possibly all connected to recent firmware upgrades, so I'm happy to try downgrading the firmware, but I've not found any instructions on doing so, or even identifying the firmware upgrade log. ** Tags added: bionic regression-update -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to poppler in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1989515 Title: "goo/GooCheckedOps.h" is missing in 0.62.0-2ubuntu2.13 on Ubuntu Bionic Status in poppler package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Somehow "goo/GooCheckedOps.h" is missing in 0.62.0-2ubuntu2.13 on Ubuntu Bionic but "goo/gmem.h" still has the statement `#include "GooCheckedOps.h"`. As a result, a compile error will happen when compiling code that uses poppler: /usr/include/poppler/goo/gmem.h:31:11: fatal error: GooCheckedOps.h: No such file or directory I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 and currently having 0.62.0-2ubuntu2.12 (the previous version) installed. I confirmed that "goo/gmem.h" doesn't have the `#include "GooCheckedOps.h"` statement. I found this issue when I was compiling gdal on my Docker container. The Docker container was installed the problematic version 0.62.0-2ubuntu2.13 and I ran into the "No such file or directory" error. I compiled on both Amd64 and AArch64 and I ran into the same error on both platforms. By reading the diff between 2.12 and 2.13 (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/622079418/poppler_0.62.0-2ubuntu2.12_0.62.0-2ubuntu2.13.diff.gz), the patch looks quite right. But when I examined the contents of the built `.deb` packages, I didn't find the file "goo/GooCheckedOps.h". Kind of weird, because the problem seems to be caused by applying "CVE-2022-38784-pre.patch" in half: the first part that creates "goo/GooCheckedOps.h" was not applied during the build process and the second part that modifies "goo/gmem.h" was applied. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1988658] Re: boot stops at black screen (blinking cursor in top left corner); pulseaudio fails to intialize?
Another attempt: $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_i2c-nvidia-gpu.conf # https://askubuntu.com/a/1289997 blacklist i2c_nvidia_gpu Didn't make any difference. My judgment is that this is NOT a hardware issue, a plain software one indicated by: As the flow of dmesg items ends; if I start tapping ESC ant Enter keys repeatedly I will see the X / Wayland GUI Login screen within 10 seconds. If i do NOT do that key-tapping, then the boot stop just prior to the login screen; screen is black, cursor flashing in upper left corner (at least to begin with), it stays like that indefinitely, after some time cooling fans start blowing - so there appears to be some CPU-intensive thing going on. The only way out of this is holding the power button until power drops off. Looking into the dmesg log, there is nothing after the 10 second mark. What appears after 10 seconds on a tap-a-long-boot doesn't seem to be related, the list isn't long and does not seem to contain any leads into the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1988658 Title: boot stops at black screen (blinking cursor in top left corner); pulseaudio fails to intialize? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1989545] Re: ubuntu-bug fails when run via remote SSH login
The laptop is logged in and running Wayland: /usr/bin/Xwayland :0 My desktop is running X11: /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -nolisten tcp :0 When I SSH into the laptop from the desktop, my DISPLAY is set to "localhost:10". Inside that xterm, when I type "ubuntu-bug" (running ubuntu-bug on the laptop), ubuntu-bug incorrectly opens a window on the laptop, not on the desktop. Typing "/usr/share/apport/apport-gtk alskdjflkj" also incorrectly opens a window on the laptop, not the desktop.
