[Touch-packages] [Bug 1950282] Re: Fibocom WWAN FM350-GL-00 (Mediatek M80 5G) support

2022-12-15 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello You-Sheng, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libmbim into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libmbim/1.28.0-1~ubuntu20.04.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Bug description:
  * Impact

  Fibocom FM350 modems aren't working with the current version of
  modemmanager in 22.04.

  * Test case

  - install modemmanager, libmbim, and libqmi from -proposed
  - reboot and try WWAN function to see if any regression there.
  - perform dogfooding of its reverse dependencies (network-
     manager, gnome-control-center etc.)

  The verification should be done on FM350 to ensure it's correctly
  handled but also on other hardware to verify that there are no
  regressions

  * Regression potential

  The SRU does an update to new modemmanager serie so we should do a
  complete round of testing on different hardware and confirm there are
  no regression.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1988730] Re: package libsasl2-modules provides only unsafe SASL bind mechanims

2022-12-15 Thread Bug Watch Updater

Title:
  package libsasl2-modules provides only unsafe SASL bind mechanims

Status in cyrus-sasl2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in cyrus-sasl2 source package in Jammy:
  In Progress
Status in cyrus-sasl2 package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

  The SASL SCRAM mechanism is incorrectly part of the libsasl2-modules-
  gssapi-mit package. It has nothing to do with MIT or GSSAPI, and
  should be in libsasl2-modules.

  Normally this would just be an annoyance, but it just so happens that
  this also prevents to have the SCRAM mechanism coexist with the GSSAPI
  Heimdal one, because libsasl2-modules-gssapi-{mit,heimdal} conflict
  with each other.

  This change is moving a file from one package to another, so
  appropriate breaks/replaces changes have to be made. This move follows
  case #10 from the package transition table[1].

  [ Test Plan ]

  This test plan revolves around dependency checking and upgrades, to make sure
we don't:
  - have conflicting files which would break an upgrade
  - have no loss of functionality after an upgrade (since a plugin moved
between packages)

  a) SCRAM remains installed
  # Install the package that provides SCRAM in jammy

  $ sudo apt install libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit

  # Confirm mechanism is there and belongs to libsasl2-modules-gssapi-
  mit:

  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  # list installed sasl2 packages:
  $ dpkg -l | grep -E "^ii.*sasl2" | awk '{print $2,$3}'
  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1

  # dist-upgrade or install the new sasl2 packages from proposed
  # Confirm the same packages are installed as before the upgrade, just at
their newer versions:
  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1

  # Confirm the scram mechanism is still there, as before:

  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  # But now it belongs to the libsasl2-modules package:
  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  libsasl2-modules:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  b) Following (a), perform a release-upgrade to kinetic, and confirm
  that the same sasl2 packages remain installed, but now at the kinetic
  version:

  $ dpkg -l | grep -E "^ii.*sasl2" | awk '{print $2,$3}'
  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit:amd64 2.1.28+dfsg-6ubuntu2

  And that the scram mechanism is there, and still belongs to the
  libsasl2-modules package:

  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  libsasl2-modules:amd64: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  c) A jammy system WITHOUT the SCRAM mechanism available (i.e.,
  libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit is NOT installed), will get SCRAM
  available after the upgrade, but without installing any new package.

  # Start with these sasl2 packages installed on jammy:

  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1

  # Confirm SCRAM is not installed:
  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  ls: cannot access '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2': No such
file or directory

  # Upgrade to the packages in proposed
  # Confirm no new sasl2 packages were installed:

  $ dpkg -l | grep -E "^ii.*sasl2" | awk '{print $2,$3}'
  libsasl2-2:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1
  libsasl2-modules-db:amd64 2.1.27+dfsg2-3ubuntu1.1

  # Verify that SCRAM is now available, and part of the libsasl2-modules
package:
  $ ll /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Aug 16 20:08
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2 -> libscram.so.2.0.25

  $ dpkg -S /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl2/libscram.so.2

  Although "LLVM ERROR: Cannot select" seems to be from LLVM, I can't
  determine what project "fs_variant_partial" is in. Sounds like it
  might be in some old version of Mesa? The start of the log suggests
  it's running on focal.

  Although "LLVM ERROR: Cannot select" seems to be from LLVM, I can't
  determine what project "fs_variant_partial" is in. Sounds like it
  might be in some old version of Mesa? The start of the log suggests
  it's running on focal.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1915910] Re: evince does not print (apparmor, pxgsettings)

2022-12-15 Thread mike-g2
The proposed packages evince and evince-common versions 42.3-0ubuntu3
from jammy-proposed fixes the problem for me on MATE 22.04. Much
obliged.

Bug description:
  * Impact

  Evince hangs when opening the printing dialog for some users with a
  remote printer configured and connected

  * Test case

  - configure a remote printer and turn it on
  - open a pdf
  - try to print the document

  the print dialog shouldn't freeze the viewer

  * What could go wrong

  The change is only allowing access to one extra system binary from the
  apparmor profile so shouldn't really have an impact on the software
  behaviour. If the syntax or content of the change was incorrect it
  could make the apparmor profile not been loaded anymore or block
  access to thing that should be allowed, so ensure that opening
  documents, printing and thumbnailing are still working

  It seems that evince has no rights to print if I understand this
  correctly

  Printing the same pdf-file from the same origin/folder works with
  OCULAR

  The error is reproduceable

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  If the user reports a bug and rejects to enter the root password for
  collecting information (like the CasperMD5json), the Ubuntu add_info
  hook will fail with a stack trace. The remaining code for collecting
  more information is not executed. So the resulting bug reports will be
  less helpful. The check_for_disk_error call is not reached and
  therefore skipped.

  [Test Plan]

  1. Install Ubuntu (e.g. from ubuntu-22.04-desktop-amd64.iso)
  2. Open a terminal
  3. Run: ubuntu-bug -f
  4. Select "installer" and click on OK
  5. Click on "abort" when ask for the password
  6. The terminal should not show a stacktrace

  [Where problems could occur]

  The changed code is the Ubuntu add_info hook. So this hook could fail
  due to a regression or reveal bugs in the later code path. The later
  code path could cause more more load on the users machine (but only
  when the user wants to report the issue). Apport will catch failing
  add_info hooks and store the failure in the report.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  If the user reports a bug and rejects to enter the root password for
  collecting information (like the CasperMD5json), the Ubuntu add_info
  hook will fail with a stack trace. The remaining code for collecting
  more information is not executed. So the resulting bug reports will be
  less helpful. The check_for_disk_error call is not reached and
  therefore skipped.

  [Test Plan]

  1. Install Ubuntu (e.g. from ubuntu-22.04-desktop-amd64.iso)
  2. Open a terminal
  3. Run: ubuntu-bug -f
  4. Select "installer" and click on OK
  5. Click on "abort" when ask for the password
  6. The terminal should not show a stacktrace

  [Where problems could occur]

  The changed code is the Ubuntu add_info hook. So this hook could fail
  due to a regression or reveal bugs in the later code path. The later
  code path could cause more more load on the users machine (but only
  when the user wants to report the issue). Apport will catch failing
  add_info hooks and store the failure in the report.

  [ Impact ]

  Due to this bug, users on KDE have hard times to report generic
  problems against Ubuntu.

  [ Testcase ]

  1. Run: /usr/share/apport/apport-kde -f
  2. Select "Display (X.org)" and click OK
  3. Then a window asking "What display problem do you observe?" should be
presented.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  Since this fix enables users to properly report generic problems, it
  can reveal bugs in the later stage.

  [ Other Info ]

  Since this fix touched the KDE part, the SRU will also enable the KDE
  UI tests again and repair them to make them run.

  [ Original report ]

  When attempting to report
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1967963 I was
  unable to use `ubuntu-bug firefox`, so I just ran `ubuntu-bug`.
  However doing so gave me a menu with unrelated option (as expected)
  and an "Other problem..." option. I assumed this was for generic other
  bugs, as I think is reasonable; however, it brings me to a menu that
  only makes sense for display-related bugs. I think this text should be
  changed to note that; perhaps "Other display problem...".

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991761] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.2 HWE stack

2022-12-15 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted spirv-llvm-translator-15 into jammy-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spirv-llvm-
translator-15/15.0.0-1~ubuntu0.22.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

  [Impact
  The graphics HWE stack from kinetic needs to be backported for 22.04.2

  directx-headers
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  libdrm
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  llvm-15
  - new package in jammy
  - build-dep of the new Mesa

  mesa
  - new major release (22.2.x)
  - new HW support, like AMD RDNA3, Intel DG2

  spirv-headers
  - needed by s-l-t-15

  spirv-llvm-translator-14
  - needed to bootstrap libclc from llvm

  spirv-llvm-translator-15
  - needed for the actual libclc-15 after initial bootstrap

  Bootstrapping plan:
  - s-l-t-14 built from NEW
  - llvm-15 built with s-l-t-14
  - s-l-t-15 built against llvm-15
  - llvm-15 built again with s-l-t-15
  -> mesa ready for building

  [Test case]
  Install the new mesa on various hw, see that everything still works like
before or better.

  spirv-headers:
  - test reverse-build-deps that they still build
  Reverse-Build-Depends
  * glslang
  * intel-graphics-compiler
  * spirv-llvm-translator-14
  * spirv-llvm-translator-15
  * spirv-tools
  * vkbasalt
  * vkd3d
  * vulkan-validationlayers

  [Where things could go wrong]
  This is a major update of Mesa, there could be regressions but we'll backport
the final stable release of 22.2.x in order to minimize the chance for those.

  Update ubuntu cloud info

Status in cloud-init package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  add_cloud_info() in data/general-hooks/ubuntu.py needs an overhaul.

  Issues:
   - Using the presence of cloud-init to flag an image as a cloud image is
incorrect now that ubuntu-server includes cloud-init (and ubuntu-core images)
   - Using the presence of EC2 metadata source is incorrect as many non-EC2
clouds provide EC2 metadata. Thus we have bugs like bug #1722946 that are
tagged as an 'ec2-images' bug which are clearly on openstack
   - Marking all bugs that have cloud-init but no EC2 metadata source as an
'uec-images' bug uses a name that no longer has meaning.

  Solution:
   - If cloud-init is present, check for /etc/cloud/build.info to indicate an
Ubuntu cloud images, tag as 'cloud-images'. Pull the build_name and serial
from that file into the bug comments.
   - If cloud-init is present, check for the presence of
/run/cloud-init/cloud.cfg. Parse this yaml to determine the datasource type.
Add the datasource used to the bug comment.

  I have filed bug #1724626 to ask cloud-init development to surface
  more information from ds-identify to help ID the cloud so that we can
  better tag/annotate the bug. There may also be some info we can get
  to indicate the image ID on more clouds than just AWS. At a minimum I
  would like to see dsidentify make the EC2 platform it found available
  for consumers in cloud.cfg. This would allow us to identify AWS EC2
  from look-alike datasources so that we can tag a bug as ec2-images for
  bug really on AWS and add EC2 specific fields to the
  description/attachments.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  On architectures other than i386 and amd64, the C++ exception support
  in libunwind appears to be broken, always failing and calling
  std::terminate() which leads to the program aborting.

  (gdb) bt

  #10 0xf7fb9f50 in function_throws_int () at lib.cpp:9
  #11 0x0d54 in main (argc=1, argv=0xfab8) at main.cpp:9

  Compiling libunwind with --enable-cxx-exceptions enabled leads to
  _Unwind_RaiseException being called during __cxa_throw(), which fails
  to find a handler, and the generic std::terminate() is called instead,
  aborting the program.

  On i386 and amd64 this doesn't seem to be the case, and the libunwind
  handlers seem to be present.

  To fix, we only enable the configure option --enable-cxx-exceptions on
  i386 and amd64 only, in debian/rules. This lets other architectures
  fall back to the symbols provided by libgcc_s, which implementation
  works correctly.

  [Testcase]

  Ali Sadi has provided a reproducer program.

  Start an arm64 instance, for example, a c6g.medium instance on AWS,
  with either Bionic or Focal.

  $ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunwind/+bug/1999104/+attachment/5635122/+files/libunwind.tar.gz
  $ sudo apt install -y build-essential libunwind-dev
  $ tar xvf libunwind.tar.gz && cd test
  $ make all

  There are two executable, main and main_unwind. main is not linked to
  libunwind, and main_unwind is linked to libunwind.

  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  terminate called after throwing an instance of 'int'
  terminate called recursively
  Aborted (core dumped)

  If you install the test package available in the following ppa:

  https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf350246-test

  $ make clean
  $ sudo apt install -y libunwind-dev
  $ make all
  $ ./main
  int throws lib
  int caught main
  $ ./main_unwind
  int throws lib
  int caught main

  The exception is caught as expected the program does not abort.

  [Where problems could occur]

  For architectures other than i386 and amd64, we are changing from
  libunwind provided exception handlers for __cxa_throw(), and using
  those provided by libgcc_s instead.

  There are a few reverse dependencies for libunwind-dev and libunwind8,

livecd-rootfs, during image creation time.

https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-rootfs/tree/live-build/auto/build#n452

it'll have at least 1 value, serial (in the case of an OCI container),
normally 2: serial, build_name

> From my perspective add_cloud_init_data and get_ec2_data should be
shipped by cloud-init, because they access data generated by cloud-init.

I'll leave the cloud-init team to comment, but I actually disagree.
`/run/cloud-init/instance-data.json` is one of several user parseable
files generated by cloud-init. the "native" cloud-init error reporting
would be to, as smoser said (back in 2018) is to do `cloud-init collect-
logs`. That produces a tar file so it can't directly be added to the
`apport` report. I'm not against shipping the cloud-init logs along with
any cloud image based issue being reported. I'd have to dig in a little
to see how `apport` currently creates a bundle, and how easy it'd be to
add the cloud-init bundle as well. But know that we'll be delivering a
_lot_ more information in the apport bug report.

Hello Isaac, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mesa into kinetic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/22.2.5-0ubuntu0.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
kinetic to verification-done-kinetic. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-kinetic. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)

Title:
  update-grub complains about non-existent drives (due to cardreader)

Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in lvm2 source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * `update-grub` (actually `vgs`) complains about
     'No medium found' on systems with card readers
     that have no card in.

   * This may confuse users who aren't sure whether
     it means problems occurred with the bootloader,
     and concern their ability to safely boot again.

   * The workaround is to add a filter to LVM config,
     but this might be hard to find and error prone.
     (And not even seem relate to `update-grub` at
     all, specially on non-LVM storage layouts.)
     [See comment #16]

   * The fix replaces calls to `dev_open_readonly()`
 with `dev_open_readonly_quiet()` in scan path,
 where such errors are not a problem.

  [Test Plan]

   * Run `vgs` on a system with a card reader
     and check for 'No medium found' messages.

   * Run `strace -f -e openat vgs` to confirm
     system calls/error codes have no changes.

   * [See comment #20]

  [Where problems could occur]

   * The patch changes syscall error reporting on the
     'scan' path, so problems could occur when listing
     LVM resources in block devices (e.g., list volume
     groups with `vgs`).

   * There's little to no changes upstream on this area,
     and the change is present in Jammy; both help with
     a lower chance of regression.

  [Other Info]

   * `block-proposed-focal`: The upload is being staged
     as it's just a cosmetic change, but affects `lvm2`,
     which is present in so many systems, triggering a
     lot of upgrades/boot risk (in case something else
     broke and this upgrade could reveal it indirectly).

   * So, it will probably only be released once a more
     serious issue has to be fixed in `lvm2`.

   * Scope: Jammy has the fix, and Impish will EOL soon.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1724623] Re: Update ubuntu cloud info

2022-12-15 Thread Benjamin Drung
Took some time to understand the diff until I noticed that the diff is
inverse (apply with -R).

From my perspective add_cloud_init_data and get_ec2_data should be
shipped by cloud-init, because they access data generated by cloud-init.

Which component is responsible for generating /etc/cloud/build.info?

** Also affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu)

Title:
  Update ubuntu cloud info

Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in cloud-init package in Ubuntu:
  New

  * Impact

  Fibocom FM350 modems aren't working with the current version of
  modemmanager in 22.04.

  * Test case

  - install modemmanager, libmbim, and libqmi from -proposed
  - reboot and try WWAN function to see if any regression there.
  - perform dogfooding of its reverse dependencies (network-
     manager, gnome-control-center etc.)

  The verification should be done on FM350 to ensure it's correctly
  handled but also on other hardware to verify that there are no
  regressions

  * Regression potential

  The SRU does an update to new modemmanager serie so we should do a
  complete round of testing on different hardware and confirm there are
  no regression.

Status in bash package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  OVN makes use of GNU autotest for its testsuite. This in turn is a
  heavy user of bash.

  For some reason, when the 'ovn-controller incremental processing' test
  is executed using bash 5.2 on Debian experimental or Ubuntu
  Kinetic/Lunar, the `eval` [0] in the `counter_delta_` function
  misinterprets successful execution of commands [1], leading to a false
  negative for the 'ovn-controller incremental processing' test [2].

  Backporting the bash 5.1 package from Jammy, or compiling bash 5.1
  from upstream sources and rerunning the test makes it succeed.

  This does come across as a regression in bash.
