[Touch-packages] [Bug 1954628] Re: [USB-Audio - ALC4080] Front panel: Headphone output not working
I'm having this issue with an MPG x570s Carbon Max Wifi board. I am also using ubuntu 22.04 and know future versions of ubuntu will use pipewire. Is there a way to apply this workaround using pipewire/wireplumber? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1954628 Title: [USB-Audio - ALC4080] Front panel: Headphone output not working Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a MSI MAG X570s Torpedo MAX motherboard, which has an onboard 'Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller' (-> ALC4080 USB based audio chip) controller that has a weird mapping via USB audio (see bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206873 for a similar configuration). Sound via line-out works fine without any interventions. Headphone output however does not, while Ubuntu correctly detects the headphones as being plugged in when selected sound is still output via line-out, instead of via the front panel headphone jack-out. After some debugging I figured the headphones are connected to a seperate Alsa device on the same card as the line-out. Running 'pacmd load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:2,1' gives me a working audio output that plays just via the headphone out. I guess a quirk needs to be written for the configuration. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1980937] Re: [HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC, Realtek ALC245, Speaker, Internal] No sound except loud crackling (popping) noise
Same issue on HP Envy 17 Alder Lake-P and Realtek ALC245. Tried all LTS kernels, 6.0 & 6.1. Tried on Ubuntu 23.01, 22.04, PopOS 22.04, Manjaro and speakers won't work on any of them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1980937 Title: [HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC, Realtek ALC245, Speaker, Internal] No sound except loud crackling (popping) noise Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: New laptop with fresh installation of Xubuntu 22.04. Intel Tiger Lake- LP audio controller. When playing any audio, the internal speaker plays no sound except periodic loud crackling noise. The 3.5mm jack does not work either, producing the same craclking noise alongside some eletrical noise. HDMI audio skimmishly tested, but also gave no sound. Curiously, USB headphone (along with microphone) works perfectly, also the internal microphone. As attempts to fix the problem, I have tried the following separately, with no avail: - Installing some Ubuntu OEM version of the 5.17 kernel - Updating to the v2.2 firmware from Sound Open Firmware Project (thesofproject on github), reverted afterwards I found exactly the same problem reported in the Fedora community: https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?328627-HP-Elitebook-840-G8-Tiger-Lake-audio-only-produces-popping-sound&p=1860086 As the pre-installed Windows has been destroyed, no further test on Windows has been done. Since USB headphone and internal microphone work, I think that there is no problem on the Intel Tiger Lake-LP controller and its driver. The bug probably lies elsewhere, like in the handling of ALC245 on this new laptop model. Thank you very much for your time and effort in advance. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2000551] Re: [System Fonts] Replace default sinhala font from LKLUG to Noto
Hi Aurora, and thanks for your report. I see that LKLUG is pulled by default by several meta packages, and I'd prefer to avoid stopping them from doing that. $ apt rdepends fonts-lklug-sinhala fonts-lklug-sinhala Reverse Depends: Recommends: ubuntu-desktop Recommends: xubuntu-desktop Recommends: xubuntu-core Recommends: vanilla-gnome-desktop Recommends: ubuntustudio-desktop Recommends: ubuntukylin-desktop Recommends: ubuntucinnamon-desktop Recommends: ubuntu-unity-desktop Recommends: ubuntu-mate-desktop Recommends: ubuntu-mate-core Recommends: ubuntu-budgie-desktop Recommends: lubuntu-desktop Recommends: kubuntu-desktop Recommends: ubuntu-desktop-minimal Instead we can use fontconfig to achive the desired result. I have played with the language-selector package and made a test version available here: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/language-selector The change is not huge. You can see what I did in the repo: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/ubuntu/+source/language- selector/commit/?id=36d055d1 The point with the change is to make fontconfig give Noto Sans Sinhala respective Noto Serif Sinhala higher precedence than LKLUG. The fonts-noto-core package needs to be installed, of course, which it currently is not for all users. So for a Sinhala speaking user, who wants to use Noto fonts for rendering Sinhala, they can do either of these steps: * Select the Sinhala language when installing Ubuntu. That way fonts- noto-core will be installed at first login. * Open Language Support and add the Sinhala language from there, which will pull fonts-noto-core. As regards snaps, this approach makes a difference with the Firefox snap at least. Can you please install language-selector-gnome and language-selector- common from the PPA I mentioned, and let us know what you think. ** Also affects: language-selector (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2000551 Title: [System Fonts] Replace default sinhala font from LKLUG to Noto Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: **What's the problem?** Currently ubuntu comes with LKLUG font for sinhala (si). it's not clear. e.g. we cannot recognize vowel signs and read websites using that font. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1780985] Re: apport-unpack crashed with ValueError in extract_keys(): ['ProcEnviron'] has no binary content
$ apport-unpack _usr_bin_gjs-console.1000.crash Guest79 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/apport-unpack", line 74, in pr.extract_keys(f, bin_keys, dir) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/problem_report.py", line 270, in extract_keys [item for item, element in b64_block.items() if element is False]) ValueError: ['separator'] has no binary content ... is what brought me here. This is the kind of bug I do not understand why it does not get higher priority. It is a - seemingly easy to fix - bug in a core Ubuntu utility, which is relevant for bug reporting and analysis, thus a tool with a potential to improve the distributions' quality on a relevant scale. It would seem like it should be of central interest to Canonical that these tools receive much development attention and are of high quality. To the contrary, apport is in a sad state (see its bug tracker), and has been for a decade, and unless it gets serious quality time, it seems wrong to continue to waste massive (scale) CPU cycles and prompt users about (not) reporting crashes and bugs at all. Sorry for using this bug tracker as a means of providing generic software quality feedback - I know I should not, but I also know other places would not get developer attention, or feedback would be treated more in a PR (and I do not mean pull request) way, while here, there is at least a bit of a chance for quality feedback. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apport in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780985 Title: apport-unpack crashed with ValueError in extract_keys(): ['ProcEnviron'] has no binary content Status in apport package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Sometimes apport creates a crash file with an empty field for 'ProcEnviron'. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1813394] Re: DROPBEAR_IFDOWN=* takes interface down but leaves netplan config
Patch for /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-bottom/dropbear on Ubuntu 22.04-LTS This feels like the better place, as it respects dropbear's original semantic for IFDOWN on systems which run netplan. The former gets imported by netplan after boot and causes the DHCP lease from the initrd to be around forever, which I think goes against the intent of DROPBEAR_IFDOWN=*. I have brewed up a workaround script that lives in /etc/initramfs- tools/scripts/init-bottom/hack-delete-netif-netplan.sh for now: 8< cut >8 #!/bin/sh PREREQ="" prereqs() { echo "$PREREQ" } case "$1" in prereqs) prereqs exit 0 ;; esac . /scripts/functions log_begin_msg "Deleting all network configuration that systemd could try to import" rm /run/net-*.conf rm /run/netplan/*.yaml log_end_msg 8< cut >8 I think that dropbear-intiramfs's init-bottom script should do this in addition to downing the interfaces that it finds via the DROPBEAR_IFDOWN pattern.
