[Touch-packages] [Bug 2004551] Re: upgrade to lunar fails due to rescue-ssh.target or port 22 takeover
[Expired for openssh (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2004551 Title: upgrade to lunar fails due to rescue-ssh.target or port 22 takeover Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Hi, I just upgraded a system from Jammy to Lunar and openssh-server refuses to upgrade well. Setting up openssh-server (1:9.0p1-1ubuntu8) ... This output complains about rescue-ssh.target and indeed that can not be started even directly. $ sudo systemctl start rescue-ssh.target A dependency job for rescue-ssh.target failed. See 'journalctl -xe' for details. And in postinst is a try to start it: $ grep rescue /var/lib/dpkg/info/openssh-server.postinst deb-systemd-invoke $_dh_action 'rescue-ssh.target' >/dev/null || true But I think the underlying issue is that ssh is already on, and I'm logged in via it. And that makes the service restart of the ssh socket which was added break. Feb 02 10:40:56 node-horsea systemd[104560]: ssh.socket: Failed to create listening socket ([::]:22): Address already in use Feb 02 10:40:56 node-horsea systemd[1]: ssh.socket: Failed to receive listening socket ([::]:22): Input/output error Feb 02 10:40:56 node-horsea systemd[1]: ssh.socket: Failed to listen on sockets: Input/output error Feb 02 10:40:56 node-horsea systemd[1]: ssh.socket: Failed with result 'resources'. Now, whichever it is, it is hard to resolve. The only way to get the socket to own it would be rebooting so that sshd lets go and systemd can take over. I could reboot, but that is not the point. What if I'd want to get the service and upgrade completed before reboot. Because as of now dpkg considers the system unhappy, and that would usually be a sign for "better not reboot before being resolved" to me. One thing though, I have not upgraded with do-release-upgrade - would we / do we have magic there to make the ssh socket activation transition smoother? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1998267] Re: glib not aware of snap confinement
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected, Accepted glib2.0 into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/2.72.4-0ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: New => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-jammy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1998267 Title: glib not aware of snap confinement Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in glib2.0 source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in glib2.0 source package in Kinetic: Won't Fix Status in glib2.0 source package in Lunar: Fix Released Bug description: [ Impact] glib is not aware of snap confinement and this causes the internal logic to decide when to use portals to not work as designed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1988270] Re: AppArmor fails to start with Yoga UCA libvirt profile on Focal
apparmor is not provided in the Ubuntu Cloud Archive so we can remove that target from this bug as it is a little misleading. The fix has been released to Focal and Jammy hence why deploying Openstack Yoga on either of those (using focal-yoga uca or jammy-updates) gets you the fixed apparmor. Hope that makes sense. ** No longer affects: cloud-archive ** No longer affects: cloud-archive/antelope ** No longer affects: cloud-archive/yoga ** No longer affects: cloud-archive/zed ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Focal) Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu Focal) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apparmor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1988270 Title: AppArmor fails to start with Yoga UCA libvirt profile on Focal Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in apparmor source package in Focal: Fix Released Status in apparmor source package in Jammy: Fix Released Bug description: [ Impact ] AppArmor fails to start with yoga-focal uca libvirt profile [ Test Plan ] generate yoga-focal openstack instance juju ssh nova-compute/0 sudo systemctl restart apparmor journalctl -xe # Error message ct 04 15:55:32 juju-6d4862-apparmorbug-9 apparmor.systemd[94081]: AppArmor parser error for /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.li> Oct 04 15:55:32 juju-6d4862-apparmorbug-9 apparmor.systemd[94082]: Skipping profile in /etc/apparmor.d/disable: usr.sbin.rsyslogd Oct 04 15:55:32 juju-6d4862-apparmorbug-9 audit[94084]: AVC apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace" info="same as current profile, skipping" profile="u> Oct 04 15:55:32 juju-6d4862-apparmorbug-9 apparmor.systemd[94005]: Error: At least one profile failed to load [ Other Notes ] On a fully patched Ubuntu Focal with Yoga UCA enabled, after installation of libvirt-daemon-system, restarting apparmor would fail with error: Aug 31 07:40:52 ubuntu2004.localdomain apparmor.systemd[6335]: Restarting AppArmor Aug 31 07:40:52 ubuntu2004.localdomain apparmor.systemd[6335]: Reloading AppArmor profiles Aug 31 07:40:52 ubuntu2004.localdomain apparmor.systemd[6341]: Skipping profile in /etc/apparmor.d/disable: usr.sbin.rsyslogd Aug 31 07:40:52 ubuntu2004.localdomain apparmor.systemd[6348]: AppArmor parser error for /etc/apparmor.d in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd at line 29: Invalid capability bpf. Our boot partition is sized for a steady state of 2 kernels + 1 new one being unpacked, hence users run out of space and new kernels fail to install, upgrade runs might abort in the middle. It's not nice. [Test plan] 1. Have two kernels installed (let's call them version 3, 2) 2. Check that both kernels are not autoremovable 3. Install an old kernel (let's call it 1), and mark it automatic 4. Check that 1 will be autoremovable (apt autoremove -s) 5. Reboot into 1, check that 2 is autoremovable (apt autoremove -s) 6. Actually remove 2 7. Reboot into 3 and check that both 1 and 3 are now not autoremovable [Where problems could occur] We could keep the wrong kernels installed that the user did not expect. We remove the requirement to keep the most recently installed version, previously recorded in APT::LastInstalledKernel, to achieve this, as we had 3 hard requirements so far: 1. keep booted kernel 2. keep highest version 3. keep most recently installed 1 can't be removed as it would break running systems, 2 is what you definitely want to keep. During normal system lifetime, the most recently installed kernel is the same as the highest version, so 2==3, and there are no changes to behavior. Likewise, if you most recently installed an older kernel manually for debugging, it would be manually installed and not subject to removal, even if the rule is dropped. The behavior really only changes if you install an older kernel, and then mark it auto - that older kernel becomes automatically removable immediately after it is marked as auto. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2015228] [NEW] Bluetooth not working rfkill Soft blocked: yes
Public bug reported: Hi Devs, Hope you're all keeping well. The problem I have is similar to: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/699306 Basically Bluetooth doesn't work on installed Ubuntu 22.04.2 neither the laptop (Dell Inspirion 7577) internal device (Intel 8265) or a USB dongle (not sure it was recommended for raspberry pi and works on desktop with 22.04 just fine: 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode). It works fine in a live USB image on the same laptop. I get the following with rfkill: rfkill list all 1: hci1: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no 2: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 3: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no - Unblocking with rfkill doesn't work - Restarting bluetooth doesn't work - Getting another device doesn't work I recall having issues with WiFi around the time I got the laptop, and recall changing settings for that - but I couldn't tell you what they were (~2017 ish). Plus I believe I've reinstalled since then due to an SSD failure. It has been upgraded from LTS to LTS since 18.04 though. Any thoughts, ideas, or questions, I'm more than happy to try anything, or even help as much as possible to help get this resolved, its been going on for a couple of years now and mainly ignored it because I was mostly fine without, but I really need it to work now and appreciate any help on this. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1978351] Re: MITM vector: ifupdown puts .domains TLD in resolv.conf
This is not a matter of CACHE poisoning. This is a 3rd-party owned domain suffix being applied to every name resolution on the system. Users deploying Kubernetes on these nodes will inherit this behavior in kube-dns, for example. Users' applications, package management, pods, and customer workloads request google.com, they get google.com.domains. $ host google.com google.com has address 142.251.40.174 google.com has IPv6 address 2607:f8b0:4006:823::200e google.com mail is handled by 10 smtp.google.com. $ host google.com.domains google.com.domains has address 18.164.96.15 google.com.domains has address 18.164.96.65 google.com.domains has address 18.164.96.63 google.com.domains has address 18.164.96.112 This extends well beyond google. Every hostname "foo.com" that is registered on "com.domains" will be resolved to that com.domains domain. Likewise for any TLD. DNSSEC is not part of the configuration on Ubuntu's default package management tools (debian, python, perl). Nor are curl, wget, or most of the system tools that traverse the internet protected by DNSSEC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ifupdown in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1978351 Title: MITM vector: ifupdown puts .domains TLD in resolv.conf Status in ifupdown package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The bug described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1907878?comments=all is a security vulnerability because DNS names that would normally fail are now attempted as "foo.domains". ".domains" is a real TLD, with the registrar "Donuts, Inc." based in Bellvue, WA. "google.com.domains" is registered, for example. So is "test.domains". For users with ifupdown, any Internet request (especially that does not involve some cryptographic payload and destination signature verification) is potentially sending packets to an unintended audience. It's impossible to say, but likely, that malicious registrants are squatting sensitive and common names in the .domains TLD. The ifupdown package is still used by some cloud providers that have not adopted netplan. This vulnerability affects 22.04 and potentially other releases. This issue has not been corrected in 0.8.36+nmu1ubuntu4. With 0.8.36+nmu1ubuntu3 and after an update to 0.8.36+nmu1ubuntu4, the resolv.conf looks like the following (which is vulnerable to mitm attacks): ``` root@foo:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf # This is /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf managed by man:systemd-resolved(8). # Do not edit. # # This file might be symlinked as /etc/resolv.conf. If you're looking at # /etc/resolv.conf and seeing this text, you have followed the symlink. # # This is a dynamic resolv.conf file for connecting local clients to the # internal DNS stub resolver of systemd-resolved. This file lists all # configured search domains. # # Run "resolvectl status" to see details about the uplink DNS servers # currently in use. # # Third party programs should typically not access this file directly, but only # through the symlink at /etc/resolv.conf. To manage man:resolv.conf(5) in a # different way, replace this symlink by a static file or a different symlink. # # See man:systemd-resolved.service(8) for details about the supported modes of # operation for /etc/resolv.conf. nameserver 127.0.0.53 options edns0 trust-ad search DOMAINS ``` To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1978351/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2012599] Re: tzdata 2023a/2023b/2023c release - Egypt restoring DST
Hello Dariusz, or anyone else affected, Accepted tzdata into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/2023c-0ubuntu0.22.04.0 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. ** Changed in: tzdata (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: Triaged => Fix Committed ** Tags removed: verification-done-jammy ** Tags added: verification-needed-jammy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to tzdata in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2012599 Title: tzdata 2023a/2023b/2023c release - Egypt restoring DST Status in tzdata package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in tzdata source package in Bionic: Triaged Status in tzdata source package in Focal: Triaged Status in tzdata source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in tzdata source package in Kinetic: Fix Committed Status in tzdata source package in Lunar: Fix Released Bug description: [ Impact ] Recently the Egyptian authorities decided to restore DST. The first switch after the change is expected to take place on last Friday of April. The upstream tzdata 2023a release already reflects this change. The 2023a release contains the following changes: * Egypt now uses DST again, from April through October. * This year Morocco springs forward April 23, not April 30. * Palestine delays the start of DST this year. * Much of Greenland still uses DST from 2024 on. The 2023c release reverts the changes done in 2023b. [ Test Plan ] Test cases were added to the autopkgtest to cover the testing: * python: test_2023a * python: test_2023c * python: test_systemv_timezones (for releases <= 20.04 LTS) * python-icu: test_2023a (only for kinetic, jammy, focal) So the test plan is to check that the autopkgtest succeeds. Alternatively the python test_2023a can be run manually: * Set system timezone to Egypt (e.g. Africa/Cairo). * Set system time to 2023-04-27 23:59. * Wait and observe what happens at 2023-04-28 0:00 [Test Case for releases <= 20.04 LTS] Additionally, an upstream update of tzdata removed the 'old' SystemV timezones, so we should ensure that they are kept in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and earlier releases. This is done by the test_systemv_timezones test case or can be checked manually with the following: diff <(zdump -v America/Phoenix | cut -d' ' -f2-) <(zdump -v SystemV/MST7 | cut -d' ' -f2-) [ Where problems could occur ] * Systems with incorrect timezone set (e.g. located outside of Egypt but still using Egyptian time) may observe unexpected time shift. [ Other Info ] The autopkgtest for chrony is flaky on jammy and kinetic (see bug #2002910). * More information with sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_in_Egypt#:~:text=Daylight%20saving%20time%20(DST)%20has,(DST)%20as%20of%202023.
