[Touch-packages] [Bug 2016045] Re: Screen sometimes freezes when tabbing in-out of apps running using dedicated gpu.

2023-04-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Title:
  Screen sometimes freezes when tabbing in-out of apps running using
  dedicated gpu.

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  1/3 times I tab in / out of a app/game, that is running using the nvidia
dedicated gpu, the screen freezes forcing me to restart my laptop. The cursor
is still "usable" and reboot using SysRq REISUB is possible.
  This is not tied only to steam games, other apps/games like minecraft also
cause this problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2012563] Re: unsupported mount options: 'nofail', 'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and 'nolazytime'

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for the explanation and the PR.

Title:
  unsupported mount options: 'nofail', 'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and
  'nolazytime'

Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The following mount options are unsupported: 'nofail',
  'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and 'nolazytime'.

  Other mount options have mappings from options to bitflags in
  `parser/mount.cc`, and the bitflags themselves are defined in
  `parser/mount.h`. Should the aforementioned mount options be included
  as well, or is there a reason why they are excluded? snapd currently
  assumes that they are supported, resulting in an error from the
  apparmor parser when a snap is connected with those options.

  I'd be happy to file a PR to add these mappings if I knew what the new
  bitflags should be defined as, and if/how they should be used
  elsewhere.

  For completeness:
  1) This is a question/bug regarding the source code from the 'ubuntu/devel'
branch (and presumably other branches), not a particular release.
  2) Same as 1).
  3) I expected the apparmor parser to recognize the 'nofail', 'nostrictatime',
'laztime', and 'nolazytime' mount options.
  4) The apparmor parser threw an error with message "unsupported mount
options" (from within `parser/mount.cc`).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2016045] [NEW] Screen sometimes freezes when tabbing in-out of apps running using dedicated gpu.

2023-04-12 Thread Spiridon
Public bug reported:

1/3 times I tab in / out of a app/game, that is running using the nvidia
dedicated gpu, the screen freezes forcing me to restart my laptop. The cursor
is still "usable" and reboot using SysRq REISUB is possible.
This is not tied only to steam games, other apps/games like minecraft also
cause this problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1954628] Re: [USB-Audio - ALC4080] Front panel: Headphone output not working

2023-04-12 Thread Guillermo Céspedes Tabárez
Hello, I have the same problem with Z690 AORUS ULTRA (rev. 1.x)

test it works
$ aplay -D plughw:`aplay -l | grep "USB Audio" | head -n 1 | cut -d " " -f 2 |
cut -d ":" -f 1`,1 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

$ pacmd load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:`aplay -l | grep "USB
Audio" | head -n 1 | cut -d " " -f 2 | cut -d ":" -f 1`,1

Is it possible to do some configuration so that this is fixed
permanently?

  [USB-Audio - ALC4080] Front panel: Headphone output not working

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have a MSI MAG X570s Torpedo MAX motherboard, which has an onboard
  'Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller' (-> ALC4080 USB based audio
  chip) controller that has a weird mapping via USB audio (see bug:
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206873 for a similar
  configuration).

  Sound via line-out works fine without any interventions.

  Headphone output however does not, while Ubuntu correctly detects the
  headphones as being plugged in when selected sound is still output via
  line-out, instead of via the front panel headphone jack-out.

  After some debugging I figured the headphones are connected to a seperate
Alsa device on the same card as the line-out.
  Running 'pacmd load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:2,1' gives me a working
audio output that plays just via the headphone out.

  I guess a quirk needs to be written for the configuration.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2016021] Re: icu FTBFS on lunar

2023-04-12 Thread Steven R. Loomis
OK makes sense. Tests that are 'skipped' as above are listed at the end
of the test run (with the bug url) and can be optionally enabled.

(BTW ICU 73 is in RC and releases soon.)

Bug description:
  During the last test rebuild, it was noticed that icu failed to build

  The issue is related to the recent tzdata updates: not only the usual
  batch of changes made to reflect the current state of the world, but
  also changes made to have a better data set for pre-1970 dates.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

  Recently the Egyptian authorities decided to restore DST. The first
  switch after the change is expected to take place on last Friday of
  April. The upstream tzdata 2023a release already reflects this change.

  The 2023a release contains the following changes:

  * Egypt now uses DST again, from April through October.
  * This year Morocco springs forward April 23, not April 30.
  * Palestine delays the start of DST this year.
  * Much of Greenland still uses DST from 2024 on.

  The 2023c release reverts the changes done in 2023b.

  [ Test Plan ]

  Test cases were added to the autopkgtest to cover the testing:

  * python: test_2023a
  * python: test_2023c
  * python: test_systemv_timezones (for releases <= 20.04 LTS)
  * python-icu: test_2023a (only for kinetic, jammy, focal)

  So the test plan is to check that the autopkgtest succeeds.

  Alternatively the python test_2023a can be run manually:

   * Set system timezone to Egypt (e.g. Africa/Cairo).
   * Set system time to 2023-04-27 23:59.
   * Wait and observe what happens at 2023-04-28 0:00

  [Test Case for releases <= 20.04 LTS]

  Additionally, an upstream update of tzdata removed the 'old' SystemV
timezones, so we should ensure that they are kept in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and
earlier releases. This is done by the test_systemv_timezones test case or can
be checked manually with the following:
  diff <(zdump -v America/Phoenix | cut -d' ' -f2-) <(zdump -v SystemV/MST7 |
cut -d' ' -f2-)

  [ Where problems could occur ]

   * Systems with incorrect timezone set (e.g. located outside of Egypt
  but still using Egyptian time) may observe unexpected time shift.

  [ Other Info ]

  The autopkgtest for chrony is flaky on jammy and kinetic (see bug
  #2002910).

  #2002910).

That'd be 72.1-3ubuntu1, now ubuntu2 with this patch. This bug was
mostly for reference for the folks in the Ubuntu release team since
we're in feature freeze, almost at final freeze. I uploaded the fix
directly afterward. That's my bad, I should have been more explicit
about that :)

Given that icu is a regular in our FTBFS reports due to tzdata updates,
we might indeed end up doing so, but in general I'd rather adapt the
tests to the specificities of the distro than disable them altogether.
Thanks for the tip though, much appreciated!

What ICU is this? I can't tell which version from here. Your analysis
sounds reasonable, may have to ignore the tests (there's a logKnownIssue
mechanism) - put the following before the failing test case:

if (logKnownIssue("https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/icu/+bug/2016021;,

  data/apport which processes core files expects a certain quantity of
arguments in a specific order. This ended up causing an issue with some
security updates where we were trying to support a new version of apport on a
host system and one inside a container.
  This SRU for xenial and bionic based on the work made in cosmic enabled
proper handling of named argument.
  Note that this is disabled for now on ALL series

  [Test Case]
  No real test here since apport general behavior should be unchanged Just to
check that the feature is disable, /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
  content should remain unchanged :

  $> cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
  |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c %d %P %E

  [Regression Potential]
  The new feature is not enabled so the regression risk is fairly low. this
will take place in a future coordinated SRU across all LTS but in the meanwhile
we can make sure that there's no regression by making sure apport still behave
properly. starting and killing xeyes should trigger apport normal operation and
start apport.
  $> xeyes &
  $> kill -SEGV $!

  End SRU Description

  data/apport which processes core files expects a certain quantity of
  arguments in a specific order. This ended up causing an issue with
  some security updates where we were trying to support a new version of
  apport on a host system and one inside a container. Here's something
  of an example:

  347 # Normal startup
  348 if len(sys.argv) not in (5, 6):
  349 try:
  350 print('Usage: %s [global pid]' % sys.argv[0])
  351 print('The core dump is read from stdin.')

  We could not maintain backwards compatibility because "global pid" is
  an optional argument and "dump mode" was a new argument. So if there
  were five arguments its possible the last one was "dump mode" (no
  global pid) or "global pid" (no support for dump mode).

  Its possible to use strings in /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern so we
  could use those and have apport accept named arguments e.g:

  $ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
  |/usr/share/apport/apport --pid=%p --signal=%s --core-size=%c --dump-mode=%d
--global-pid=%P

  ['/home/bdmurray/source-trees/apport/artful/data/apport', '--
  pid=5870', '--signal=11', '--core-size=0', '--dump-mode=1', '--global-
  pid=5870']

  Tyler said "that's probably a nice cleanup to make no matter what
  because the magic arg ordering is dangerous".

Title:
  race condition in apport lead to Local Privilege Escalation

Status in Apport:
  Fix Released
Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Hello. I'm Muqing Liu @Singurlar Security Lab. I would like to report
  a vulnerability that lead to Local Privilege Escalation. I found this
  vurlnebiltiy together with neoni

  An attacker can use this vulnerability to get a root shell, if one of the
following conditions is satisfied:
  1. If an unprivilieged user ( e.g. nobody ) is allowed to run a command (e.g.
ping) as root via sudo.
  2. Or `sendmail` package is installed on system (It's may possible but I have
not tested.)

  Here is the detail:
  Apport will check if pid is reused, by check if the start time of the process
is later than apport self:
    # /usr/share/apport/apport
    594 apport_start = get_apport_starttime()
    595 process_start = get_process_starttime()
    596 if process_start > apport_start:
    597 error_log('process was replaced after Apport started, ignoring')
    598 sys.exit(0)

  But an attacker could reused pid just after apport launched. In such
  case, get_apport_starttime() == get_process_starttime().

  So, an attacker can get root shell under Condition 1, by following steps.
  1. prepare a process X to crash, whose pid is A
  2. repeating fork process, until current pid reaches A - 2
  3. make process X crash, apport will be launched by kernel with pid A - 1.
Then attacker kill process X, so pid A is now available.
  4. attacker run command `sudo ping 8.8.8.8` with current directory
/etc/logrotate.d/. a process running under root:root will re-occupy pid A.
  5. Since the start time of sudo and apport are same, line 596 is by-passed.
Apport then drop a core file of process X in /etc/logrotate.d

  For Condtion 2:
  Sudo will execute sendmail to send incident report if sendmail is installed.
So arbitrary user can run sudo to trigger sendmail at /etc/logrotate.d. I have
not tested this case, but I think it's possible to win the race.

  PoC of Condition 1 is attached.

  The deprecation warning is just a warning, but it clutters the output
  and can lead to misattributions in case something does not work as
  expected.

  Test Case
  -

  1. apt install apport
  2. Execute following command:
  python3 -Wonce -c "import apport.report"
  3. There should be no output.

  Where problems could occur
  --

  Except for changes to the test cases, _check_interpreted is the only
  consumer for the changed code. Breakage in this code paths can lead to
  wrongly assume that the crashing Python code is an interpreted script
  or not. This can lead to reports that have only ExecutablePath set
  (and not InterpreterPath).

  Original Description

  Code using apport/report.py will see the following warning:

  $ python3 -Wonce -c "import apport.report"
  /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py:13
    /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py:13: DeprecationWarning: the
imp module is deprecated in favour of importlib; see the module's documentation
for alternative uses
  import fnmatch, glob, traceback, errno, sys, atexit, locale, imp, stat

  The 'imp' module is slated for removal in Python 3.12.

  The Apport Python hook should be transparent to the user (which is
  normally the case). Bugs and crashes inside the hook lead to an
  exception inside the exception which clutters the output and confuse
  the user. User/Developer need to understand this Python hook and look
  into the encapsulated stack trace only.

  Test Case
  -

  1. Create /tmp/getcwd.py with following content:
  ```
  #!/usr/bin/python3
  import os
  import tempfile
  tempdir = tempfile.mkdtemp()
  os.chdir(tempdir)
  os.rmdir(tempdir)
  os.getcwd()
  ```
  2. Make it executable and execute it.

  It should produce following output:

  ```
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/tmp/getcwd.py", line 9, in
  os.getcwd()
  FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
  ```

  instead of:

  ```
  $ /tmp/getcwd.py
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/tmp/getcwd.py", line 9, in
  os.getcwd()
  FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
  Error in sys.excepthook:
    File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport_python_hook.py", line 76, in
apport_excepthook
  binary = os.path.realpath(os.path.join(os.getcwd(), sys.argv[0]))
  FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
  Original exception was:
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/tmp/getcwd.py", line 9, in
  os.getcwd()
  FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
  ```

  Another related issue: bug #1979637

  Regression Potential

  There might be a regression that causes capturing Python exception
  fail. Then reporting them as bugs to Launchpad or the error tracker
  would not be possible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2012563] Re: unsupported mount options: 'nofail', 'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and 'nolazytime'

2023-04-12 Thread Oliver Calder
Hi Robert,

I submitted a PR to allow userspace and filesystem-specific mount
options to be validated directly by snapd, since apparmor should only
ever see kernel mount options. It should support `nofail` and the
functionfs mount options as well as options for most other common
filesystems.

https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/12712

Title:
  unsupported mount options: 'nofail', 'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and
  'nolazytime'

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2012563] Re: unsupported mount options: 'nofail', 'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and 'nolazytime'

Hi Oliver,

Could you please add the options listed in comment #1 as well? They are
used by FunctionFS. Thank you.

Title:
  unsupported mount options: 'nofail', 'nostrictatime', 'lazytime', and
  'nolazytime'

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2015857] Re: Repeatedly unusable truncated crash files

2023-04-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Steps to reproduce:

1. Make sure you don't have the fix for bug 1974293, so make sure
libgjs0g == 1.76.0-1

2. Log into Lunar.

3. Interact with the desktop, icon grid and calendar for 30 seconds.

4. Log out.

5. Crash files written.

** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)

Bug description:
  Repeatedly unusable truncated crash files:

  Bug 2012974, bug 2015842, bug 2015140, bug 2012075

  Based on my own testing, the problems seems to happen if multiple
  binaries crash simultaneously (like at logout). One crash file gets
  fully written and the other is incomplete.

  If I remove apport from the equation and just get the kernel to dump
  core files then the core files are always written reliably (should be
  several hundred MB in the case of gnome-shell).

2023-04-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I suspect the fix for bug 1974293 (released a minute ago) will hide the
problem for now, but my machine does still have one "useless" crash file
from last week (attached).

** Attachment added: "_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/2015857/+attachment/5663203/+files/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash

Title:
  Repeatedly unusable truncated crash files

Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Repeatedly unusable truncated crash files:

  Bug 2012974, bug 2015842, bug 2015140, bug 2012075

  Based on my own testing, the problems seems to happen if multiple
  binaries crash simultaneously (like at logout). One crash file gets
  fully written and the other is incomplete.

  If I remove apport from the equation and just get the kernel to dump
  core files then the core files are always written reliably (should be
  several hundred MB in the case of gnome-shell).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2015751] Re: Screen output is laggy after boot

2023-04-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2007668 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2007668

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 2007668, so it is being marked as such. Please look at
the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you

Title:
  Screen output is laggy after boot

Status in linux-hwe-5.19 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The screen constantly lags and need several seconds to update the
  output on my device and sometimes causes horizontal stripes every time
  I boot from normal mode. It keeps lagging even when I press
  Ctrl+Alt+Fn and enter terminal mode. However, mouse and keyboard input
  still works as normal.

  The problem first appeared after I resolved a package dependency issue
  on Feb 17 (but I cannot remember what package was causing the
  dependency issue) and then rebooted the system. But the problem
  disappears if I choose to boot from recovery mode (this is how I
  gathered information for my device).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2015714] Re: Xorg freeze

That's the version installed on disk but are we confident they restarted

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  APT will try and fail to remove the currently running kernel, when booted
into an older kernel that is not protected. May wreak some havoc if mixed with
other operations to the point that apt goes weird and needs manual fixing up.

  [Test case]
  For the SRUs we have included an automated test case that starts with an
empty autoremove config file, and then checks that the running kernel is
protected at runtime.

  You can also test manually, but it's not necessary:

  - Install new kernel
  - Reboot into kernel not listed as protected in 01autoremove-kernels
  - Run autoremove

  [Where problems could occur]
  We may more easily run out of space in /boot. hirsute has new autoremoval
code that runs completely at runtime; but that seems a bit large to SRU after
only a few weeks in hirsute. Hence, we should protect the current kernel _in
addition_ to the other kernels, just like unattended-upgrades and
update-manager do. This increases the risk of filling up /boot compared to
older apt versions, but is at the same level as unattended-upgrades and
update-manager.

  [Original bug report]

  This may happen, if you boot one of the older kernels, that is not
  protected by /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels

  Workaround: run
  /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal
  during each boot (e.g. by using cron).
  Note: The workaround breaks autoremoving feature of new unneeded kernels in
unattended-upgrades i.e. the setting
'Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-New-Unused-Dependencies "true"' (which is default
in 16.04 unless 'Unattended-Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "true"' is set
in '/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades'.

  In shell:

  $ uname -r
  4.4.0-22-generic
  $ apt-get -s autoremove
  NOTE: This is only a simulation!
    apt-get needs root privileges for real execution.
    Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
    so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  APT currently keeps 3 kernels or even 4 in some releases. Our boot partition
is sized for a steady state of 2 kernels + 1 new one being unpacked, hence
users run out of space and new kernels fail to install, upgrade runs might
abort in the middle. It's not nice.

  [Test plan]
  1. Have two kernels installed (let's call them version 3, 2)
  2. Check that both kernels are not autoremovable
  3. Install an old kernel (let's call it 1), and mark it automatic
  4. Check that 1 will be autoremovable (apt autoremove -s)
  5. Reboot into 1, check that 2 is autoremovable (apt autoremove -s)
  6. Actually remove 2
  7. Reboot into 3 and check that both 1 and 3 are now not autoremovable

  [Where problems could occur]
  We could keep the wrong kernels installed that the user did not expect.

  We remove the requirement to keep the most recently installed version,
  previously recorded in APT::LastInstalledKernel, to achieve this, as
  we had 3 hard requirements so far:

  1. keep booted kernel
  2. keep highest version
  3. keep most recently installed

  1 can't be removed as it would break running systems, 2 is what you
  definitely want to keep.

  During normal system lifetime, the most recently installed kernel is
  the same as the highest version, so 2==3, and there are no changes to
  behavior.

  Likewise, if you most recently installed an older kernel manually for
  debugging, it would be manually installed and not subject to removal,
  even if the rule is dropped.

  The behavior really only changes if you install an older kernel, and
  then mark it auto - that older kernel becomes automatically removable
  immediately after it is marked as auto.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  bootstrapping a system with apt that fixes #1968154 fails in focal and
bionic, as they try to execute the config file that is being removed.

  This is not a problem on updates, only on new installs, so impact is
  limited to bootstrapping tools that enable -updates, such as
  mmdebstrap.

  [Test case]

  bootstrapping with -updates enabled can easily be tested with
  mmdebstrap:

  mmdebstrap -v focal ~/Projects/Ubuntu/Scratch/focal

  for example, on focal:

  Setting up apt (2.0.8) ...
  /var/lib/dpkg/info/apt.postinst: 65: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal:
not found
  dpkg: error processing package apt (--configure):
   installed apt package post-installation script subprocess returned error
exit status 127

  [Regression potential]
  We remove 5 lines from the shell postinst script, there could be syntax
errors? But then we'd see those during upgrades, so practically none.

  [Original bug report]
  #1968154 removed `/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal` in this patch:

https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/commit/?id=f9d2d993687c0d5223c241956ef6a0aabcf15bf0

  ...but `apt.postinst` still tries to run it:

  # create kernel autoremoval blacklist on update
  if dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt 0.9.9.3; then
  /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal
  fi

  If I understand correctly, "$2" is the most-recently-configured-
  version, and if it's empty `dpkg --compare-versions lt` will evaluate
  to true.

  This fails when I'm building a focal (20.04) userspace from scratch:

  $ dpkg --configure -a
  [...]
  Setting up apt (2.0.8) ...
  /var/lib/dpkg/info/apt.postinst: 65:
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal: not found
  dpkg: error processing package apt (--configure):
   installed apt package post-installation script subprocess returned error
exit status 127

  It works with apt 2.0.6.

Title:
  Intermittent problems with second monitor after xorg security updates

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I am running Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS on a Dell 5410 laptop. Typically it is
  connected to a Dell WD19 docking station with an attached monitor.

  I have been having issues with using two monitors at once since a
  recent security update to several xorg packages.

  Since the update of:

  Upgrade: xserver-xorg-core:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9), xserver-xorg-legacy:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9), xserver-common:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9), xwayland:amd64 (2:22.1.1-1,
  2:22.1.1-1ubuntu0.6), xserver-xephyr:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9)

  sometimes only one monitor works at a time: the external one when the
  docking station is attached and the internal screen when not. Several
  times, after a reboot - only one monitor was available. When only one
  is working the display settings show there only being one monitor.

  Sometimes both work for a while, and then the problem starts. It is
  not clear to me what triggers the problem. Once the bug triggers,
  disconnecting the laptop from the docking station and reconnecting
  does not seem to get the system back to using both monitors at once.
  Detaching and the reattaching the monitor from the Docking station
  helped once.

  After a downgrade back to the versions - things seemed to work fine
  again. I downgraded to the following package versions to avoid the
  issue

  Downgrade: xserver-xorg-core:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2), xserver-xorg-legacy:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2), xserver-common:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9,
  2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2), xwayland:amd64 (2:22.1.1-1ubuntu0.6, 2:22.1.1-1),
  xserver-xephyr:amd64 (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.9, 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2)

  and after reinstalling the updates again experienced problems.

  It seemed that things were fine when
  xserver-xorg-core:amd64, xserver-common:amd64, xserver-xorg-legacy:amd64,
server-xephyr:amd64 were all on version 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.7
  and xwayland:amd64 was on version 2:22.1.1-1ubuntu0.5 but I am not sure
about with 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.8 as I do not think the system was restarted
after the update from 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.7 to 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.8.

The list of packages mentioned here are not related to audio or
Bluetooth. Do you mean that the mic stopped working after upgrading from
22.04 to 22.10?
