[Touch-packages] [Bug 2024560] Re: Check if 0010-set-language needs to be update for the new languages property

2023-06-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I did some tests and identified a problem. If I use language-selector-
gnome to change from English (US) to Swedish, it looks like this:

$ sudo cat /var/lib/AccountsService/users/gunnar | grep Lang
Languages=sv:en_US:en;

Next:
* Relogin
* Open g-c-c from terminal and switch to Region & Language

Then you see this error message:

00:59:54.0364   **[11007]: WARNING: Couldn't get locale for
language: sv:en_US:en
00:59:54.0366 GnomeDesktop[11007]:CRITICAL:
gnome_get_language_from_locale: assertion '*locale != '\0'' failed

This can be dealt with in different ways, but for now I think it's
better to change 0010-set-language.patch so it does not write the colon
separated language list into the accountsservice keyfile. That way the
language selector in lightdm-gtk-greeter keeps working as well.

So I have uploaded a change, which also allowed me to drop language-not-
xpg.patch.

Not sure if the upstream project is at all useful for us. In any case I
kind of fear the it will cause more issues...

  I've rebased 0010-set-language to apply correctly but we should review
  if we need to adapt the patch to apply a similar logic to the new
  languages property that it's doing for old language one

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1991436] Re: "invalid argument" error from logger command when passing messages via STDIN

2023-06-24 Thread xhienne
I'm pretty sure this bug is caused by this issue:
https://github.com/util-linux/util-linux/issues/2336

TLDR: when using the --id=NNN parameter, logger sends random UID and GID
along with the PID you specify on the command line.

Those UID/GID probably don't exist on your machine/container and you are
probably using some LSM module (like AppArmor, SELinux, etc) that checks
the validity of the credentials sent through the sendmsg() syscall and
thus denies the call with EINVAL.

You might want to test the patch I posted on github.

Title:
  "invalid argument" error from logger command when passing messages via
  STDIN

Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  apt-get install lxd-installer
  lxd init
  lxc launch ubuntu:jammy ct0
  lxc exec ct0 -- bash

  Then within the container run

  echo foo | logger --id="$$"

  Note: the command may work the first time, but subsequent invocations
  then produced the error described in my bug report.

  (original report follows)
  -

  When invoking the `logger` command on Ubuntu Jammy (bsdutils 2.37.2)
  with explicit PID and passing messages via STDIN

  ```
  echo "some message" | logger -p local0.info --id="$$"
  ```

  the command produces the following error instead of sending the
  message to syslog:

  > logger: send message failed: Invalid argument

  The error does not appear when the message is passed as an argument:

  ```
  logger -p local0.info --id="$$" "some message"  # this works!
  ```

  When using process substitution the error only appears for the first
  log message:

  ```
  exec > >(logger -p local0.info --id="$$")
  echo "first message"   # throws error, message not logged
  echo "second message"  # no error, message logged correctly
  ```

  The issue does not exist in older versions (e.g. Ubuntu Xenial,
  bsdutils 2.27.1).

  Workaround: Omit `--id` and include the PID in a tag.

  ```
  echo "some message" | logger -p local0.info -t "foo[$$]"
  ```

  Expected Behavior
  -

  All messages passed via STDIN should be sent to syslog without
  throwing an error.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2024950] Re: add support for Green Linux, fork linux mint

2023-06-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 2024950

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Please note: `ubuntu-bug`, `apport` & bug reporting tools are provided
with Ubuntu by default, many require manual addition for some releases
of downstream OSes based on Ubuntu (eg. Linux Mint & other Ubuntu based
systems). You should check with your distribution first.

(the various fields in this bug report have not been filled; which is
done automatically when apport tools are used.. these make exploring the
bug report much easier)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2007050] Re: Check for Microsoft Surface keyboard modules when generating initrd

2023-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed. The workaround I've been using so far in /etc/initramfs-
tools/modules is:

surface_aggregator
surface_aggregator_registry
surface_hid_core
surface_hid
8250_dw
intel_lpss
intel_lpss_pci
pinctrl_tigerlake

but comment #22 suggests two of those aren't necessary.

Bug description:
  With 22.04 LTS, fully updated, freshly built initrd's for both 5.15
  (linux-generic-hwe-22.04) and 5.19 (linux-generic-hwe-22.04-edge)
  kernels, the embedded keyboard of a Microsoft Surface 4 Laptop model
  1950 (Intel Gen 11), namely "Microsoft Surface 045E:09AE Keyboard", is
  not available during early boot, such as for entering a full disk
  encryption passphrase. Just pressing enter at said prompt has no
  effect. Connecting an external keyboard via USB and typing the
  passphrase from there works around it.

  The keyboard works fine on the fully booted system.

  Secure boot is disabled on this system.
