  Debugging with Valgrind gives variety of:

  For the sourcecode that triggers the segfault see the attachement.

  3/4)

  I was testing aes ccm encryption when I stumbled over a segmentation fault.
  I was able to reproduce this error using code from the openssl demos at
openssl.org.

  I started with demos/evp/aesccm.c and added rsa key generation as used in
'demos/tunala/cb.c' and convert this rsa key into an EVP_PKEY key as done in
'demos/selfsign.c'. Then I added this rsa key generation function in front of
the aes ccm encryption and decryption.
  Finally, a for loop repeatedly performs the keygeneration, aes ccm encryption
and aes ccm decryption. This eventually results in a segmentation fault during
aes ccm encryption (see gdb output below) on a x64 Ubuntu 12.04 with latest
openssl version as provided by ubuntu package system (1.0.1-4ubuntu5.13).

  Note that the segfault only occurs if the rsa key is assigned to an EVP_PKEY.
Otherwise, if only the RSA key is generated, the segfault does not occur.
  Furthermore, the segfault does not occur if I use the standard openssl
libraries from openssl.org.

  When encountering this error in my own code I could observe that the error
occurred more often on a machine that only runs the standard processes and is
accessed remotely by ssh, compared to a local workstation with running
webbrowser, development IDE, etc., where the error occurred rather seldom.
Hence, I have the feeling that this could be related to too little
  randomness for the RNG, but I do not have any idea how to debug this.

  but openssl (1.0.1f-1ubuntu2.11) installed with apt-get will always fails
with "certificate signature failure"

  but openssl binary compiled myself with the same version of code
  (1.0.1f), works.

  so i wonder if this is a bug of openssl?

  certificate details and version info is at

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2019212] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.3 HWE stack

2023-07-11 Thread Harm van Bakel
Actually, looks like I was wrong. After reverting the proposed
repository, reinstalling only the new mesa and mesa-amber packages, and
rebooting, color management is working properly. The breakage must have
been due to another package update.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2019212] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.3 HWE stack

2023-07-11 Thread Harm van Bakel
After testing packages from the proposed repository for the pending
22.04.3 point release I noticed that color management profiles are no
longer being applied in an Xorg session. I suspect this may be related
to the mesa packages as I noticed the breakage when rebooting shortly
after updating to the 23.0.4 version, though it's possible that there
were other proposed packages installed at the same time. Re-applying the
icc profile or e.g. switching to the red/green 'inverted' test icc
profile no longer have any effect after the update.

   * As described in the MRE wiki page for OpenLDAP, the test plan is to
  build the package in bileto and make sure that (1) all build-time
  tests pass and (2) all autopkgtest runs (from reverse dependencies)
  also pass.

   * Build log (amd64) confirming that the build-time testsuite has been

  [ Where problems could occur ]

   * Upstream tests are always executed during build-time. There are
  many reverse dependencies whose dep8 tests depend on OpenLDAP so the
  coverage is good. Nevertheless, there is always a risk for something
  to break since we are dealing with a microrelease upgrade. Whenever a
  test failure is detected, we will be on top of it and make sure it
  doesn't affect existing users.

  [ Other Info ]

   * This is a reoccurring MRE. See below for links to previous OpenLDAP
  MREs.

   * CVEs fixed by this release:

  Current versions in supported releases that got updates:

  Special cases:
  - None.

  As usual we test and prep from the PPA and then push through
  SRU/Security as applicable.

Title:
  glib2.0 (2.77.0 ) breaks Netplan build

Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Netplan FTBFS as of the latest release of glib2.0 (2.77.0-0ubuntu1) in
  mantic-proposed.

  See: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netplan.io/0.106.1-3

  When I downgrade glib in my sbuild environment, everything works as
  expected:

  $ apt install libglib2.0-0=2.76.3-1ubuntu1
  libglib2.0-bin=2.76.3-1ubuntu1 libglib2.0-dev=2.76.3-1ubuntu1
  libglib2.0-dev-bin=2.76.3-1ubuntu1 libglib2.0-data=2.76.3-1ubuntu1

  The build also works fine in Debian unstable, which is using glib2.0
  2.74.6-2.

  Netplan is using plenty of GLib's keyfile functions
  (https://docs.gtk.org/glib/struct.KeyFile.html), which seem to
  producing a different output with this newer release (some strange
  line breaks injected in the middle of a keyfile).

  Example keyfile from the test_wifis.test_wifi_wowlan test, that should be
generated by Netplan and the way it fails:

  Expected output:
  ```
  [connection]
  id=netplan-wl0-homenet
  type=wifi
  interface-name=wl0
  [wifi]
  wake-on-wlan=330
  ssid=homenet
  mode=infrastructure
  [ipv4]
  method=link-local
  [ipv6]
  method=ignore
  ```

  Failure:
  ```
  E   AssertionError: '[con[88
chars]330\n\nssid=homenet\nmode=infrastructure\n[ipv[44 chars]re\n' != '[con[88
chars]330\nssid=homenet\nmode=infrastructure\n\n[ipv[44 chars]re\n'
  E [connection]
Bug description:
  Compiling a Python extension using Python2 (Python 2.7.18) is making
  use of wrong compiler flags, hence dropping required optimizations
  when required. This is happening only when python2 is installed from
  Ubuntu's repositories. By default, Python's distutils module uses
  compiler and linker flags used to compile Python itself to be used to
  compile extensions.
  Steps to reproduce:
  1) On Ubuntu 20.04, install python2 using apt package manager.
  2) After successful installation, verify the CFLAGS variable from sysconfig
module. On my machine, the output is
  Python 2.7.18 (default, Jul  1 2022, 12:27:04)
  [GCC 9.4.0] on linux2
  Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
  >>> import sysconfig
  >>> sysconfig.get_config_var('CFLAGS')
  '-fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O2 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes
-Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -g
-fdebug-prefix-map=/build/python2.7-vvQ8AI/python2.7-2.7.18=.
-fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security  '
  3) Build a test extension module using python2 and verify the compilation
flags.
  python2 setup.py build_ext --inplace
  Output from below command is not matching with our expected above CFLAGS.
  aarch64-linux-gnu-gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -Wdate-time
-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -g
-fdebug-prefix-map=/build/python2.7-vvQ8AI/python2.7-2.7.18=.
-fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security -fPIC
-I/usr/include/python2.7 -c testmodule.c -o
build/temp.linux-aarch64-2.7/testmodule.o
  On further investigation, it looks like Ubuntu's specific patch applied on
libpython2.7-stdlib package is altering the original upstream implementation of
distutils/sysconfig.py code.
  Package - https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/libpython2.7-stdlib
  Patch -
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/p/python2.7/python2.7_2.7.18-1~20.04.3.diff.gz
  Below is the code block which is causing the issue, where the presence of
configure_cflags is modifying cflags. This code is result of ubuntu's patch and
doesn't come directly from upstream python implementation.
  File - /usr/lib/python2.7/distutils/sysconfig.py
  Part of code block:
  elif configure_cflags:
  cflags = ' '.join(str(x) for x in (basecflags, configure_cflags,
extra_cflags) if x)
  ldshared = ldshared + ' ' + configure_cflags
  I don't see problem on Python3 though we have extra code added from patch
there as well. Patch used on python3, is not modifying the cflags completely
and instead appending new flags to cflags.
  On python3 (tested on Ubuntu 20.04)
  File - /usr/lib/python3.8/distutils/sysconfig.py
  Part of code block which doesn't alter cflags completely
  elif configure_cflags:
  cflags = cflags + ' ' + configure_cflags
  ldshared = ldshared + ' ' + configure_cflags
  Request to update the python2 patch to behave similar to what is been done on
python3.
  On further investigation, it looks like Ubuntu's specific patch applied on
libpython2.7-stdlib package is altering the original upstream implementation of
distutils/sysconfig.py code.
  Package - https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/libpython2.7-stdlib
  Patch -
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/p/python2.7/python2.7_2.7.18-1~20.04.3.diff.gz
  Below is the code block which is causing the issue, where the presence of
configure_cflags is modifying cflags. This code is result of ubuntu's patch and
doesn't come directly from upstream python implementation.
  File - /usr/lib/python2.7/distutils/sysconfig.py
  Part of code block:
  elif configure_cflags:
  cflags = ' '.join(str(x) for x in (basecflags, configure_cflags,
extra_cflags) if x)
  ldshared = ldshared + ' ' + configure_cflags
  I don't see problem on Python3 though we have extra code added from patch
there as well. Patch used on python3, is not modifying the cflags completely
and instead appending new flags to cflags.
  On python3 (tested on Ubuntu 20.04)
  File - /usr/lib/python3.8/distutils/sysconfig.py
  Part of code block which doesn't alter cflags completely
  elif configure_cflags:
  cflags = cflags + ' ' + configure_cflags
  ldshared = ldshared + ' ' + configure_cflags
  Request to update the python2 patch to behave similar to what is been done on
python3.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 2026888] [NEW] Autopkgtest failing on s390x
2023-07-11 Thread Danilo Egea Gondolfo
Public bug reported:
Autopkgtests are consistently failing on s390x.
More specifically, the test 04-getroot-sssd is failing.
The reason is not evident because the stderr is being redirected to
/dev/null. After testing a PPA without the redirection, I was able to
see the error below:
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)
The reason seems to be that the slapd daemon is not ready yet when the test
calls ldapmodify.
Adding a simple "sleep", as already done in another place in the same
test, is enough to workaround the issue. Ideally it should try the
command again if it fails using some sort of exponential backoff.
A sleep-based workaround was proposed as part of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sudo/+bug/2025655
** Affects: sudo (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
[Touch-packages] [Bug 2026307] Re: ssh-askpass-gnome pops up for every sudo command
2023-07-11 Thread Lena Voytek
Hmm, I tested the workaround on lunar too just to make sure and it works
for me. After the .desktop file is created the inhibitShortcutsDialog
will show up one more time. Notably the description of the dialog box
will change to contain the Name entry for the desktop file - in this
case "GNOME ssh-askpass" rather than the executable name "gnome-ssh-
askpass". After clicking "allow" it shouldn't pop up ever again.
If it still has that name the Exec path may be wrong in the desktop
file. Make sure it says "Exec=/usr/lib/openssh/gnome-ssh-askpass".
Alternatively the local desktop file entry just might not be working and
it may be worth adding the file to /usr/share/applications/ instead.
This also works for me. Hope that helps, thanks!
  from my gtk4 app, the ssh-askpass-gnome dialog and the gnome
  inhibitShortcutsDialog pops up. i click allow on the
  inhibitShortcutsDialog, then enter my password, which is accepted,
  then they both pop up again for each of these sudo commands my app
  calls.
  This happens in ubuntu 22.04-23.04 (completely updated) using gnome.
  If i use xfce in the same ubuntu versions, the gnome dialog doesn't
  pop up, of course, and ssh-askpass-gnome works properly (one entry and
  then all commands executed without further prompting). Fedora 37 works
  properly with gnome x11 or wayland, and xfce. Not sure if this is a
  bug in ubuntu's ssh-askpass-gnome, gnome-shell, or both/something
  else.
  ubuntu 23.04 is using GNOME Shell 44.2 and ssh-askpass-gnome
  1:9.0p1-1ubuntu8.2
  fedora is using openssh-askpass-8.8p1-10.fc37 and GNOME Shell 43.6
[Touch-packages] [Bug 2026730] Re: Merge dash 0.5.12-6 from debian
2023-07-11 Thread Dominik Viererbe
** Merge proposal linked:
Title:
  Merge dash 0.5.12-6 from debian
Status in dash package in Ubuntu:
  New
Bug description:
  This is a tracking bug to merge dash 0.5.12-6 from debian.
  Below now follows the report of the automated merge of the Ubuntu
  changes to the dash source package against the new Debian version.
  This file is designed to be both human readable and machine-parseable.
  Any line beginning with four spaces is a file that should be
  downloaded for the complete merge set.
  Here are the particulars of the three versions of dash that were
  chosen for the merge.  The base is the newest version that is a common
  ancestor of both the Ubuntu and Debian packages.  It may be of a
  different upstream version, but that's not usually a problem.
  The files are the source package itself, and the patch from the common
  base to that version.
  base: 0.5.12-2
  dash_0.5.12-2.dsc
  dash_0.5.12.orig.tar.gz
  dash_0.5.12-2.debian.tar.xz
  ubuntu: 0.5.12-2ubuntu1
  dash_0.5.12-2ubuntu1.dsc
  dash_0.5.12.orig.tar.gz
  dash_0.5.12-2ubuntu1.debian.tar.xz
  base -> ubuntu
  dash_0.5.12-2ubuntu1.patch
  debian: 0.5.12-6
  dash_0.5.12-6.dsc
  dash_0.5.12.orig.tar.gz
  dash_0.5.12-6.debian.tar.xz
  base -> debian
  dash_0.5.12-6.patch
  Generated Result
  Due to conflict or error, it was not possible to automatically create
  a source package.  Instead the result of the merge has been placed
  into the following tar file which you will need to turn into a source
  package once the problems have been resolved.
  dash_0.5.12-6ubuntu1.src.tar.gz
  Conflicts
  =
  In one or more cases, there were different changes made in both Ubuntu
  and Debian to the same file; these are known as conflicts.
  It is not possible for these to be automatically resolved, so this
  source needs human attention.
  Those files marked with 'C ' contain diff3 conflict markers, which can
  be resolved using the text editor of your choice.  Those marked with
  'C*' could not be merged that way, so you will find .UBUNTU and
  .DEBIAN files instead and should choose one of them or a combination
  of both, moving it to the real filename and deleting the other.
C  debian/tests/control
  Once you have a source package you are happy to upload, you should
  make sure you include the orig.tar.* if appropriate and information
  about all the versions included in the merge.
  Use the following command to generate a correct .changes file:
$ dpkg-genchanges -S -v0.5.12-2ubuntu1
Title:
  DHCP not bringing up IPv6 address when dhcp6: true specified
Status in netplan:
  Invalid
Status in isc-dhcp package in Ubuntu:
  New
Bug description:
  I have a netplan configuration with dhcp6: true specified for my
  network interface, however no IPv6 address comes up.
  dhclient -6 brings the address up without issue, proving that the DHCP
  server is responding.
  So why isn't Netplan configuring the IP address?
  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  enp0s6:
  dhcp4: true
  dhcp6: true
  match:
  macaddress: 02:00:17:xx:xx:xx
  set-name: enp0s6
Public bug reported:
- Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
- https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/25921
This neeeds to be backported to the LTS versions of systemd in Ubuntu.
