[Touch-packages] [Bug 1833322] Re: Please consider no more having irqbalance enabled by default (per image/use-case/TBD)
While there was sadly neither enough time not enough resources to do all the deep dive analysis that could have been done, we succeeded by reaching out to many more parties and got their input as well. Thank you all! Since Noble feature freeze is coming we need to make a call either way. I proposed the underlying seed change [1]. And even once accepted that has to be followed by an update to ubuntu-meta. Furthermore we'd have more follow up, like enabling it in special cases like the AWS images for the reasons Fabio mentioned. Of course this is just a proposal. There are many other options left, from not changing anything to more subtle counters to my proposal like only doing so in 24.10 to give things more time, to holding back until someone found time/resource to gather more data. But for now, I feel "Not enabling it by default, but enabling selectively where identified to be wanted" seems to be the better choice - and that is what I proposed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1958019]
I am running an 14IRP8 (Yoga Pro/Slim 9i), specifically this model (https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Yoga/Yoga_Pro_9_14IRP8?M=83BU0024AU). I have the laptop running Ubuntu 23.10 and I run mainline kernels from Ubuntu. I have tried almost every recent kernel build up until 6.8-rc5 today (I had read that 6.8 was supposed to fix this issue). Audio is still running only the tweaters, zero bass. I've tried many things, notably the snd.conf (options snd-sof-intel-hda- common hda_model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin) to no avail. Also tried noble's firmware-sof-signed package, manually tweaking the amixer configuration. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2054481] [NEW] Move "enhanced tiling" into Keyboard settings
Public bug reported: Starting in 23.10, Ubuntu introduced "enhanced tiling", which modifies the default behavior for Super+Right so that it does not only moves the window over to one side, but it also brings up a task-switcher for the remaining space. I wanted to turn this off, but did not know what it was called or what program/library etc. was causing it. It was a change to the behavior of a keyboard shortcut, so I went to "keyboard shortcuts". There it still says Super+Right is "view split on right". This not accurate anymore, as that is only half of what Super+Right does with Enhanced Tiling on. I had to do like 15 different Google searches before finding this Ask Ubuntu question https://askubuntu.com/questions/1494628/how-can-i-disable-the-new- superarrow-window-screen-aligning-feature which finally relieved my confusion, told me the name of the behavior, and allowed me to turn it off in the unexpected "Ubuntu Desktop" location. Please somehow make it clear from the keyboard settings that "enhanced tiling" exists, since it does modify keyboard behavior to be other than what keyboard settings says it is. You could do this by: - having "View Split On Left" and "Enhanced Tiling To Left" be two separate actions, and Super+left/right could be assigned to one or the other - somehow indicate the existence of Enhanced Tiling in the description of the keyboard action, like "View Split on left (see also Enhanced Tiling)" would have at least let me know I needed to search for an "Enhanced Tiling" setting See also related bug I filed for documenting Enhanced Tiling as part of keyboard shortcuts in ubuntu-docs https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/2054478 ** Affects: ubuntu-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054481 Title: Move "enhanced tiling" into Keyboard settings Status in ubuntu-settings package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Starting in 23.10, Ubuntu introduced "enhanced tiling", which modifies the default behavior for Super+Right so that it does not only moves the window over to one side, but it also brings up a task-switcher for the remaining space. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2054468] [NEW] python3 deamon thread not auto-ending on script end
Public bug reported: Python programs using threading with deamon = True not longer kill the thread once the python script is finished. Here is a simple script to prove the point: --- import threading as th def thread_method(): input() thread_test = th.Thread(target=thread_method, args=(), name='daemon_exit_test', daemon=True) thread_test.start() print(thread_test.isDaemon()) print('print this then exit') --- This creates a deamon thread, and holds it waiting for an input(), i.e. enter key. In the past, because the flag deamon=True, as soon as it reaches the end of the script it will kill the thread. Now it does not behave like that, and holds the thread open, which can be ended manually by pushing the enter key to accept the input(). I tried in a python 3.9 and a python 3.12 environment, same issue. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2049192] Re: Audio problem on zoom + kubuntu 23.10
I didn't see the problem in kubuntu 23.04 either. Bit of experimentation last night and I see that the audio usually sorts itself out after you move to another workspace and then return to the one running zoom. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2049192 Title: Audio problem on zoom + kubuntu 23.10 Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am using kubuntu 23.10, and have sound issues with zoom. I have a Jabra Speak 510 running thorugh USB. When I first connect to a meeting, I hear nothing (but apparently my mic does work, so others can hear me). If I open audio settings, hit "Test" and then switch the profile from Analog Stereo Output + Mono Input to Digital Stereo Output + Mono Input (or vice versa, it's the action of changing the profile that seems important), then the sound works. At points during a zoom call (seems to be related to other windows/apps opening), the sound dies and I have to switch profile again. I never had this issue with kubuntu 22.04 LTS. I have not noticed similar problems applications which only output audio, eg vlc or clementine. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. In noble, we are finding that it is no longer reliable, and in fact fails rather often. It is most noticeable with riscv64 builds, which is the architecture where we most frequently ran into problems before with kpartx. The first riscv64+generic build in noble where the expected loop partition device is not available is https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu- cdimage/+livefs/ubuntu/noble/cpc/+build/531790 The failure is however not unique to riscv64, and the autopkgtest for the latest version of livecd-rootfs (24.04.7) - an update that specifically tries to add more debugging code for this scenario - has also failed on ppc64el. https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/l/livecd- rootfs/noble/ppc64el The first failure happened on November 16. While there has been an update to the util-linux package in noble, this did not land until November 23. The losetup usage has been backported to Jammy, and sees frequent failures there. [test case] The autopkgtests will provide enough confidence that the changes are not completely broken. Whether the change helps with the races on riscv can be "tested in prod" just as well as any other way. [regression potential] If the backport has been done incorrectly, image builds can fail (and the autopkgtests will fail if it has been completely bungled). This can be quickly handled. There is no foreseeable way for this to result in successful builds but broken images, which would be a much more difficult failure mode to unpick. This means that are subsequent snap install, like LXD, will take much longer than expected for a non minimized image. Time taken to install LXD snap using the lxd-installer package without snapd and core22 preinstalled/seeded ``` ubuntu@cloudimg:~$ time sudo lxd --version Installing LXD snap, please be patient. 5.19 real 0m29.107s user 0m0.006s sys 0m0.005s ``` Time taken to install LXD snap using the lxd-installer package with snapd and core22 already installed. ``` ubuntu@cloudimg:~$ time sudo lxd --version Installing LXD snap, please be patient. 5.19 real 0m15.034s user 0m0.005s sys 0m0.005s ``` This is a significant difference and for a workload we intend to remain as a core tested and tracked workload. As such I propose we re- introduce core22 and snapd snaps to our seed. LXD do intend to move to the core24 snap as their base as I'm sure snapd does too so when that does happen we need to update the preseeded core snap.
