[Touch-packages] [Bug 2056652] Re: Display goes black after time out, even when switched off
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Run these commands: journalctl -b0 > journal.txt journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt and attach the resulting text files here. 2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056652 Title: Display goes black after time out, even when switched off Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: In the power settings I switched of suspend and power-off and blanking of the screen. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2056671] Re: Gnome Shell Screencast does not capture mouse pointer
This looks like just bad UI design. The option to include the pointer already exists but it's disabled by default and not obvious because the button looks exactly like the mouse pointer itself (bottom right of the dialog). [Touch-packages] [Bug 2030784] Re: Backport Intel's AVX512 patches on openssl 3.0
Hello @adrien-n, I had Dan Zimmerman take a look at this issue and found a solution. This is what he shared: Steps to reproduce: --- Get Source and apply patch: git clone https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl ubuntu_openssl cd ubuntu_openssl git checkout applied/ubuntu/devel git apply 001-vaes_gcm_avx512.patch (See comment #11 for attachment) This patch is essentially what is referred to as "[PATCH 2/2] AES-GCM enabled with AVX512 vAES and vPCLMULQDQ." Build OpenSSL ./config --prefix=/tmp/ubuntu_openssl_install --openssldir=/tmp/ubuntu_openssl_install make -j make test Note AES-GCM Test Failures Steps to resolution: Apply patch: make clean git apply 002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch make -j make test Note AES-GCM Tests Pass Solution: - The solution to the failed test cases comes from this merged OpenSSL Pull Request: Avoid having another copy of key schedule in PROV_GCM_CTX by t8m · Pull Request #22384 · openssl/openssl (github.com) Direct application of this PR will fail due to the fact that the OpenSSL doesn't support SM4_GCM in v3.0.13. So I made the edits by hand and created the patch file 002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch ** Patch added: "002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/2030784/+attachment/5754725/+files/002-vaes_gcm_avx512_fix.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2030784 Title: Backport Intel's AVX512 patches on openssl 3.0 Status in openssl package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/14908 https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/17239 These should provide a nice performance bonus on recent CPUs, and the patches are fairly self-contained. ** Also affects: apparmor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apparmor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056696 Title: All Snaps are denied the ability to use DBus for notifications and apptray indicators Status in snapd: New Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: OS: Kubuntu Noble 24.04 Alpha (two-day old install) snapd version: 2.61.2 Affected Snaps: firefox, thunderbird, element-desktop Steps to reproduce: # For Firefox: 1. Open the Firefox Snap. 2. Open https://www.bennish.net/web-notifications.html. 3. Click "Authorize" and allow the website to send notifications. 4. Click "Show". Expected result: A notification should be displayed by Plasma, similar to other notifications the system displays. Actual result: The notification shows up in the upper-right corner of the display, improperly themed and obviously generated by Firefox as a fallback. # For Thunderbird: 1. Open the Thunderbird Snap. 2. Ensure you are connected to an email account. 3. Unfocus the Thunderbird window. 4. Wait for an email to come through. Expected result: When the email comes through, a notification should be displayed by Plasma, similar to other notifications the system displays. Actual result: The notification shows up improperly themed and obviously generated by Thunderbird as a fallback. # For Element: 1. Open the Element Snap. Expected result: An apptray indicator should appear in the system tray with the Element logo. Actual result: No such indicator appears. 2. Log in, ask someone to ping you, then unfocus the window and wait for the ping to come through. Expected result: A notification should be displayed by Plasma, similar to other notifications the system displays. Actual result: No notification appears at all. Additional information: Based on the output of snappy-debug, this appears to be AppArmor related, at least for element-desktop (but presumably for the others too). Of note are some of the following log entries: ``` = AppArmor = Time: 2024-03-10T13:4 Log: apparmor="DENIED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="session" path="/org/freedesktop/DBus" interface="org.freedesktop.DBus" member="ListActivatableNames" mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.DBus" pid=2950 label="snap.element-desktop.element-desktop" peer_label="unconfined" DBus access = AppArmor = Time: 2024-03-10T13:4 Log: apparmor="DENIED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="session" path="/modules/kwalletd5" interface="org.kde.KWallet" member="isEnabled" mask="send" name="org.kde.kwalletd5" pid=2950 label="snap.element-desktop.element-desktop" peer_pid=1762 peer_label="unconfined" DBus access = AppArmor = Time: 2024-03-10T13:4 Log: apparmor="DENIED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="session" path="/modules/kwalletd5" interface="org.kde.KWallet" member="close" mask="send" name="org.kde.kwalletd5" pid=2950 label="snap.element-desktop.element-desktop" peer_pid=1762 peer_label="unconfined" DBus access = AppArmor = Time: 2024-03-10T13:4 Log: apparmor="DENIED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="session" path="/StatusNotifierItem" interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" member="GetAll" name=":1.45" mask="receive" pid=2950 label="snap.element-desktop.element-desktop" peer_pid=2394 peer_label="plasmashell" DBus access = AppArmor = Time: 2024-03-10T13:4 Log: apparmor="DENIED" operation="dbus_signal" bus="session" path="/StatusNotifierItem" interface="org.kde.StatusNotifierItem" member="NewToolTip" mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.DBus" pid=2950 label="snap.element-desktop.element-desktop" peer_pid=2394 peer_label="plasmashell" DBus access ``` Booting with `apparmor=0` set on the kernel command line fixes the issue with Element (apptray indicator appears, notifications show up). Obviously this is not a solution, but it does isolate AppArmor as being at least partially at fault. This issue seems to be somewhat similar to https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/dbus-related-apparmor-denials/37422, however it seems as if Element is trying to hit the right paths and interfaces and is still being denied (based on looking at the info in https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/master/interfaces/builtin/desktop_legacy.go and comparing the paths and interfaces there with the paths and interfaces shown by snappy-debug. I talked about this issue with Erich Eickmeyer and he mentioned that it occurred after a Plasma update. This doesn't make a great deal of sense to me, and I suspect possibly some other component of the affected systems happened to get updated at the same time (perhaps the snapd Snap), but it's definitely worth mentioning. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1091645] Re: When ISP changes dynamic IP address avahi-daemon changes Zeroconf host name
Kuwait's demand for skilled drivers presents a promising avenue for job seekers looking to carve out a niche in the transportation sector. Whether chauffeuring families to appointments, navigating bustling city streets, or providing logistical support, drivers in Kuwait uphold standards of professionalism and safety while delivering exceptional service. With a diverse array of opportunities available, from private households to commercial enterprises, drivers can find fulfilling roles that align with their expertise and preferences. https://gurukuwait.com/categories/jobs/housemaid-jobs-in-kuwait/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to avahi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1091645 Title: When ISP changes dynamic IP address avahi-daemon changes Zeroconf host name Status in avahi package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a home network with several Ubuntu and one Mac OS X machine. Internet access is via VDSL with dynamic IP addresses, amd the ISP changes the IP address every night, around 4am. ISP is Deutsche Telekom in Germany. On my Ubuntu (Quantal) machines, connecting to the network only via ethernet (wired, W-Fi connection turned off on the machines, due to bug 1083565) avahi-daemon sometimes switches the Zeroconf hostname from the originally given one (like "till-hp") to a name with an added number, (like "till-hp-2"). This happens on the nightly IP address change as the attached syslog shows. Problem is that on clients I cannot refer to the Zeroconf names as they can change on the next day. If I restart avahi-daemon during the day the Zeroconf name gets reset to the original. It is possible that bug 1083565 is this one in reality, but I am not absolutely sure. As BonJour replaces the IPP-based CUPS broadcasting for printer discovery from CUPS 1.6.x on, avahi must be made more reliable. Also Zeroconf as replacement for DNS on the local network, to avoid the need that home users have to register host names on the router, need a reliable Avahi in term of the Zeroconf host names. In this case it always reports, e.g: (initramfs) pwd /lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic/kernel/drivers/md (initramfs) modinfo dm-crypt modinfo: can't open '/4.4.0-21-generic/': No such file or directory (initramfs) modinfo /lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic/kernel/drivers/md/dm-crypt.ko modinfo: can't open '/4.4.0-21-generic/': No such file or directory There seems there may be a related issue with modprobe too, as I've found it doesn't always insert a module when instructed to - also using either just name, or absolute path. In the specific case here I was working with a LUKS/dm-crypt rootfs, where the initrd.img had been generated using "MODULES=dep" and hadn't included dm-crypt.ko. I connected a USB storage device with an identical root file-system (same kernel version, etc.) at /mnt/USB/ and was trying to use: (initramfs) modprobe -v -d /mnt/USB dm-crypt modprobe: FATAL: Module dm-crypt not found in directory /mnt/USB/lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic I'm *assuming* this is because despite setting the alternate root directory with "-d" it is still looking at the "modules.dep" in /lib/modules/4.4.0-21-generic rather than prefixing the "-d" alternate root.
