[Touch-packages] [Bug 1977689] Re: Wrong error msg: "state file /var/lib/logrotate/status is world-readable" although it is not

2022-11-28 Thread Alessandro Ratti
My bad, it seems you have pushed 3.20.1-1ubuntu1 to Lunar and Kinetic after
all.
When we can expect 3.20.1-1ubuntu1 released for Jammy?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1977689] Re: Wrong error msg: "state file /var/lib/logrotate/status is world-readable" although it is not

2022-11-28 Thread Alessandro Ratti
Hello,

I think this commit [1] (3.17.0) introduced a security problem to which it was
assigned CVE-2022-1348 [2].
They fixed it in [3] (3.20.0) and [4] (3.20.1).
Although I see you've pulled from debian/sid the patched version, I don't think
you have ever pushed those patches to jammy/devel.

May I request to release a package with the fix?

Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries

2018-08-08 Thread Alessandro
I also think it is a blocker. I am a non technical user, I have lost one
working day for this bug. Dns resolution should work out of the box! I
solved following the instruction in this post - not even sure it is the
best fix, for now it seems to work.

Title:
  systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
systemd-resolved, or more precisely the hook script
  /lib/systemd/system/systemd-resolved.service.d/resolvconf.conf, causes
resolvconf to add 127.0.0.53 to the set of nameservers in
/etc/resolv.conf alongside the other nameservers. That makes no sense
because systemd-resolved sets up 127.0.0.53 as a proxy for those other
nameservers. The effect is similar to bug 1624071 but for
applications doing their own DNS lookups. It breaks any DNSSEC
validation that systemd-resolved tries to do; applications will
failover to the other nameservers, bypassing validation failures. And
it makes failing queries take twice as long.

/etc/resolv.conf should have only 127.0.0.53 when systemd-resolved is
  active.

I go through the usual steps but when it comes to the "install the

installation stops with an error on initramfs.

The error doesn't occur if I use a generic kernel instead of the
  targeted one.

at that phase I'm not yet able to install reportbug so below you'll
find what I found in syslog. VM running under ESXi 6.7.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1769346] [NEW] Unable to install 18.04 server AMD64 with targeted kernel: initramfs-tools

2018-05-05 Thread Alessandro Tiberti
Public bug reported:

Trying to install from: ubuntu-18.04-server-amd64.iso

at boot: F6->expert mode and F4->minimal VM

I go through the usual steps but when it comes to the "install the
system" phase, if I select normal (not live) and then "targeted", the
installation stops with an error on initramfs.

The error doesn't occur if I use a generic kernel instead of the
targeted one.

at that phase I'm not yet able to install reportbug so below you'll find
what I found in syslog. VM running under ESXi 6.7.

Thanks!

I'm experiencing a bug similar to bug 1710637 with Ubuntu 17.10 again.

  Test Case
  -
  schroot -u root -c trusty-amd64
  edit /etc/apt/sources.list to xenial
  apt-get update
  apt-get install console-setup
use alt+tab to bring up the window switcher
then use alt+arrow to switch windows

I then end up at the gdm login screen or a virtual tty.

Installing a different set of packages, via apt-get dist-upgrade,
actually ended up killing my desktop session.

  Test Case 1:

  - snap install gimp
  - Wait until installation finishes successfully

  Test Case 2:
  - Login under Wayland (session Ubuntu)
  - Open a terminal and type the following command:
    $ sudo udevadm trigger
  - In the terminal window press CTRL+C

  Result
  - Expected: ^C is displayed in the terminal and the prompt is at the start of
a new line
  - Actual: The session is terminated and the login screen is displayed

  = Original Description =

Multiple times a day I find myself without a session after hitting
Ctrl+C in a terminal, it seems the input falls through the
Ubuntu/GNOME session and to gdm, which itself decides to terminate.

Even worse, when this happens, you can briefly see your login password
in plaintext in the virtual terminal. You can see the password however
long you want if you stop the gdm service when this happens.

I don't have a good way to reproduce, but it seems locking the session
with a keyboard shortcut, subsequently unlocking it, maybe suspending,
at some point brings this behaviour into the picture, until the
  session dies with a Ctrl+C.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1659288] Re: appear.in on phones won't enter a chat room

2017-01-26 Thread Alessandro Roncador
It was working for me before,
perhaps is a regression or linked to

Title:
appear.in on phones won't enter a chat room

Status in Canonical System Image:
  In Progress
Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  (initially reported as https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-
  phone/msg23290.html).

When creating a new chat room on https://appear.in/, the user is
informed that she has been invited to a conversation, and there is a
"join" button, but tapping it does nothing. The following can be seen
  in the logs:

WARNING **: Unable to dispatch url 'intent://appear.in/spectacular-

scorpion#Intent;scheme=http;action=android.intent.action.VIEW;end;':GDBus.Error:com.canonical.URLDispatcher.BadURL:
  URL 'intent://appear.in/spectacular-
  scorpion#Intent;scheme=http;action=android.intent.action.VIEW;end;' is
not handleable by the URL Dispatcher

It seems appear.in thinks it’s being used on android, and wants the
user to install their native app? A simple UA override should do the
  trick.

Title:
CUPS web interface stops responding after a while

I got to launch it again, so I have finish with a cron job like
  */10 * * * * systemctl status cups.service|grep -q 'inactive (dead)' &&
systemctl start cups

but it is a dirty solution. I have no idea of what make it stop.
NB: I have seen problems related to apparmor, this machine has no apparmor
package.

  [Impact]

If you want to use the CUPS web interface in Xenial and therefore set
"WebInterface Yes" in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, CUPS could auto-shutdown
when it is idle and then an attempt to access http://localhost:631/
via a web browser fails. People get confused as other access to CUPS

  [Testcase]

Take a CUPS setup on Xenial with no shared print queues and CUPS only
listening on the domain socket. Activate the web interface via

  cupsctl WebInterface=Yes

Now you are able to access the web interface via
http://localhost:631/. Wait for some minutes without accessing CUPS
until the CUPS daemon shuts down automatically. Try to open the web
interface again and it will not work.

With the fixed CUPS package CUPS will not auto-shutdown when the web
  interface is activated.

  [Regression Potential]

Low, as we are removing a simple distro patch to get back to the
  original, upstream behavior.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1489329] Re: MX4 GPS doesn't work at all

2016-10-13 Thread Alessandro Roncador
in my device (Aquaris E5) GPS stopped working after OTA-13 update.

Title:
MX4 GPS doesn't work at all

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in location-service package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When using location for navigation, GPS is essential. Location can
also be based on Wifi or phone network, but accuracy for that is
insufficient for driving/geocaching/any application except nearby
  restaurants.

I can currently only get a location based on wifi / phone network. If
I disable this feature, I get no location at all. Not after reboot,
  not sometimes, not ever.

Trying to do: Navigate using GPS and/or network

What I expect: Accuracy is high with all location services on. It
decreases slightly when network based location is switched off. It
decreases sharply when only GPS is switched off.

What happens: Accuracy is very low (30m - 2000m) with all location
services on. Location is impossible when network based location is
switched off. It doesn't make a difference if I switch the GPS on or
  off.

This may be a hardware issue, and I'll probably be sending in my phone
(MX4) for check/repair, but that would mean missing my phone. I'd much
  rather troubleshoot myself.

I already have location test and sensorsstatus to monitor this, but I
want to know more about if the chip is functioning. Which logs are
relevant? I've thought about flashing android on and seeing if that
helps (which makes it a software issue), or doesn't (which makes it a
hardware issue). Is there an easier way to get an answer to the
  software/hardware question?

  Thanks!

  Meizu MX4, Ubuntu 15.04r4

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1626667] Re: Can't upload files using webapp-container

2016-09-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Thanks Olivier for your time and patience, I really appreciate.

Just installed the gallery-app package, but it isn't listed as content provider
in the webapp-container nor in other webapps (g+, facebookmessenger...).
An image picker could be enought for a wiki webapp (essentially the majority of
files uploaded in the italian wiki by users are images). If I need different
types of files, I'll look to the ubuntu-filemanager-app, however first I need
that webapp-container can see these apps.

Any idea on how to archieve this?
If ther's some kind of documentation I can read, please send me links.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1626667] Re: Can't upload files using webapp-container

2016-09-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Installed the package 'qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-content1' and its
dependencies.

Now, when I try to upload files, webapps open the page:
"Choose from" (or something similar, I'm translating from italian) with the
indication that "no apps are installed which can provide this kind of content".

Running webapp-contanier with terminal, I still get the output:
"file:///usr/share/webbrowser-app/Downloader.qml:22:1: module
"Ubuntu.DownloadManager" is not installed"

I think I'm missing again some package, any idea?
Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1430888] Re: DRI_PRIME with radeon/intel windows do not draw

2016-08-23 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Similar problem in Ubuntu 16.04.1 (Unity), with AMD APU (AMD A4-7210 APU
with AMD Radeon R3 Graphics "MULLINS") + AMD GPU (AMD Radeon R5 M330) on
a Lenovo Yoga 500-14ACL.

Everytime I launch a 3D game application with DRI_PRIME=1, the system
hangs and returns to the lightdm login screen.

I also tried to use a xubuntu session (installing xubuntu-core package)
with xfwm or compton, but the problem persists.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1594073] [NEW] 16.04 - initrd fails to decrypt and mount /usr directory when it's on it's own cryptsetup partition

2016-06-19 Thread Alessandro Selli
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, upgraded from a 15.10 that did not show the
issue.

Initramd fails at setting up the encrypted /usr partition.
At the (initramfs) prompt the following command is accepted and succeeds at
decrypting the partition:

cryptsetup --key-file /root/etc/keys/sda5_usr open --type luks /dev/sda5
sda5_usr

After entering the above command and pressing + to exit the initramfs
shell, system boot resumes and completes successfully.
/etc (in the initramd) does not have the crypttab file, which is present in the
decrypted and mounted root filesystem in /root/etc.

The problem manifests itself regardless that in /etc/initramfs-
tools/initramfs.conf MODULES=most or MODULES=dep is set before
generating the initrd.

Terminal output of the failed boot up to the initramfs prompt:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1462712] Re: Sony Vaio Pro webcam does not work in most of the apps with libjpeg-turbo8-1.3.0-0ubuntu2

2016-01-28 Thread Alessandro
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1295247 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295247

Hi, I found a workaround for this bug on my SVP1321C5E.

Opening cheese gives the exact same error: libv4l2: error got 4
consecutive frame decode errors, last error: v4l-convert: libjpeg error:
End Of Image.

I solved it by opening the preferences and changing the resolution for
pictures and videos: default was 1280x720, I changed both of them to
640x480. I then closed Cheese and opened it again, and everything was
working fine.

I haven't tested any other application (Skype, ...).

Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu 15.04.
The version of libjpeg-turbo8 is 1.3.0-0ubuntu2.

  Expected:
A video picture from the webcam.

  What happens instead:
The output is just a garbled picture or sometimes the green screen.

  For example, cheese fails with:
libv4l2: error got 4 consecutive frame decode errors, last error:
v4l-convert: libjpeg error: End Of Image

The webcam (ID 0bda:5793 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.) has MJPG as one
  of the formats.

Most of the apps (cheese, google-chrome, etc.) don't allow to select
other format for the webcam. Thus this webcam is unusable in those
  applications.

This is fixed in libjpeg-turbo 1.4.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1517348] Re: Xorg freeze on DELL XPS13 L322X Ubuntu 15.10

2015-11-24 Thread Alessandro Sfondrini
Dear Christopher,

thank you for your reply. I have updated the BIOS with what appeared to
be the newest version available from Dell.

I now get
> sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A10
08/28/2013

I did not experience any freeze for a short while (one full day, while
my laptop was plugged into power). Today, while my laptop was running on
battery power I experienced the first freeze since the BIOS upgrade.

It appears identical to what I used to have before upgrade (i.e. not
only the laptop does not respond, to keyboard/trackpad, but the screen
displays some strange pattern, cfr. the image attached to my first bug
report).

confirm that this is a graphic only issue / gather further info.

Before upgrading I had other issues on this laptop (laptop shutting

  resolved by the upgrade.

The way that the screen freezes is most peculiar. I attach a picture

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1302716] Re: webapp-container crashed with SIGABRT in qt_message_fatal()

2015-10-17 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Happens also on my machine, only on Wily sistem:
 - guest: 15.10 Wily (updated today)
 - host: Ubuntu 14.04 (kernel 3.13, updated today)

Other info: this bug seems to be related to the guest additions I installed in
my VM. Before I did it, webapps were working ok on Ubuntu 15.10.
VirtualBox and guest additions installed from Ubuntu repositories (not from
Virtualbox website).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445436] Re: Segmentation faults in libapt-pkg.so.4.12.0

2015-07-12 Thread Alessandro Peppino
Starting from yesterday I was affected as well.
Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr).
[ 1038.128029] apt-get[11829]: segfault at b6fe6a84 ip b767932f sp bfb951c0
error 6 in libapt-pkg.so.4.12.0[b758c000+144000]
Synaptic , APT, update-manager were not working
adding APT::Cache-start 2;  in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00bugs solved the
problem

I reviewed the changes I made to the system yesterday: I saw in synaptic
history
balazarbrothers
libode1
libode1sp
python-soya
I removed all these packages
Then I removed /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00bugs, I rebooted and I did not get the
error in APT.
It seemed to me very strange that removing balazarbrothers, libode1,
libode1sp, and python-soya could solve the problem but I tired to reinstall
these 4 packages but the error did not show up again.
All this seems to me strange and I don't know if what I did can help to
understand the problem anyway that is what I did.

and have found that this problems is NOT present in Ubuntu 11.04, 12.04,
13.04. I have not tried 11.10, or 12.10. But have found 13.10 and 14.04 to
 show this identical problem.
My main concern is for the 14.04 LTS version I am currently using.

   - I tried regulating the audio from alsamixer -by disabling auto-mute in
alsamixer i managed to stop it switching from one port to the other. Still,
no audio from speakers (only a regular and low-volume BUMP comes out)
   - I tried modifying the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file. Since i
could not find my pc (Packard Bell EasyNote MX45) in the alsa-configuration
list, i have tried using only the audio boards main info as referral (Intel
HDA AD1986A NM10/ICH7). Thus i have added to the alsa-base.conf the
following and rebooted after trying each and every new line (added only
once per try, not all of them together).
 -options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
 -options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-eapd
 -options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
 -options snd-hda-intel model=generic

   - Also tried the position_fix quirking suggested on the ubuntu
 documentation pages
-options snd-hda-intel position_fix= 1
-options snd-hda-intel position_fix= 2

The audio outputted from the speakers kept being a regular BUMP and
nothing more, regardless of the input.

At this point the only thing I can suppose is that it isn't a

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1390625] Re: mouse cursor gets corrupted

2015-05-22 Thread Alessandro
The xserver-xorg installiation fixes the issue but, in my case, it introduces
another issue. A great number of artifacts, little white or black horizontal
lines sometimes appear/disappear on the screen in relation with the mouse
movement.
The solution of changing the intel method of accelleration to uxa works too,
but it has the same side effects. I suspect that installing xserver-xorg in
some way changes the accelleration to uxa...

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale

after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to

dbus puts system to sleep every 30 seconds

Status in dbus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading from 14.10 to 15.04, I found that the system was going
to sleep every 30 seconds. This behavior does not manifest once I log
into the graphical desktop (Lubuntu), but if I switch over to a
  virtual console, it manifests again.

A temporary fix has been to make /sys/power/state non-writable.

At first, I believed the problem was with systemd, but the problem
  continues after switching to upstart.

I believe the problem is in the dbus package, because I see this every
30 seconds in /var/log/syslog, coinciding with the laptop going to
  sleep:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1390625] Re: mouse cursor gets corrupted

2015-05-03 Thread Alessandro
Same problem here. After a dragdrop the mouse arrow gets corrupted, in my case
the pointer turns in two little arrows and only the left one is effective. The
workaround of opening typing in scratch works but when you drag some icon the
dragged icon is corrupted.
My system: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz Memory 3953MB - HD ATA
HGST HTS545050A7 - 500 GB ( 220 GB free)

  * when dragdropping a document icon

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale
on a high-dpi display (this was working right in 14.04). For example
after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to
start a dragdrop, the cursor appears 1/4 the expected size.

Attached is a photo of a corrupted cursor (whereas a screenshot with
  Gimp showed the uncorrupted cursor).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1186381] Re: Can not paste into web forms

2015-02-09 Thread Alessandro Viprati
Ubuntu 14.04 is still affected by this bug. Can't copy/paste text between
webapps and regular apps.
Please, consider to fix this bug at least in Ubuntu 14.04, it's an LTS release
after all.

Webapps are really fast and useful but we can't use them without
copy/paste support.

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I can copy text from one app, and paste it into the URL field of the
browser, but I don't get a Paste option for input fields in the
  webpage itself.

I found this when trying to log into an internal website, where SSO
prompted me to perform 2-factor authentication. I generated the one
time password using CanonicalAuth, and was able to copy it into the
clipboard. However, I was unable to paste it into the 2fa field in
  the web browser.

I could paste it into the URL field, so I know it was in the
clipboard. When long-pressing on the web form input field, I was
given a menu with Share, Save and Copy, but not Paste.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1316156] Re: speakers audio won't work - pavucontrol is switching continually between speakers and headphones

2014-12-02 Thread Alessandro Ignis
I actually have a hardware switch for wifi connection, but i don't
remember if at the time of the test i used LAN for connecting to the net
or not. Though i am sure the bug manifested itself even when the wifi
connection enabled.

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The port is continually switching between Speakers and Heaphones and no audio
is outputting from the speakers. I have tried various distributions and have
found that this problems is NOT present in Ubuntu 11.04, 12.04, 13.04. I have
not tried 11.10, or 12.10. But have found 13.10 and 14.04 to show this
identical problem.
My main concern is for the 14.04 LTS version I am currently using.

  - I tried regulating the audio from alsamixer -by disabling auto-mute in
alsamixer i managed to stop it switching from one port to the other. Still, no
audio from speakers (only a regular and low-volume BUMP comes out)
  - I tried modifying the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file. Since i could
not find my pc (Packard Bell EasyNote MX45) in the alsa-configuration list, i
have tried using only the audio boards main info as referral (Intel HDA AD1986A
NM10/ICH7). Thus i have added to the alsa-base.conf the following and rebooted
after trying each and every new line (added only once per try, not all of them
together).
-options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
-options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-eapd
-options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
-options snd-hda-intel model=generic

  - Also tried the position_fix quirking suggested on the ubuntu documentation
pages
   -options snd-hda-intel position_fix= 1
   -options snd-hda-intel position_fix= 2

The audio outputted from the speakers kept being a regular BUMP and
nothing more, regardless of the input.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1314361] Re: [20ARA0S100, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2014-10-24 Thread Alessandro Losavio
I have the same problem on a Lenovo Edge e540.

[20ARA0S100, Intel Haswell HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Audio works on internal speakers and headphones using card 1 (HDA
Intel PCH). But pavucontrol will let me choose HDMI even though it
appears under aplay -l and under /proc/asound things look ok to me.

Also note: this is a laptop on a Thinkpad Ultradock with the HDMI
plugged into the dock. I note that alsa driver does not detect the
audio line out on the dock and there is no way to play through that
channel. I'm not sure that this is related, but perhaps has to do
with some lack of support for the dock?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1327007] Re: [Dell System Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7537, Realtek ALC3223, Speaker, Internal] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2014-08-12 Thread Alessandro Zucca
Confirmed also on my machine, lowering the PCM volume seems to be the
only temporary fix to make it bearable.

Bug description:
The audio constantly clicks overtop of what is played. This began
occurring after fixing a previous bug where audio would not play
through speakers. All that was done fixing this bug was uninstall and
reinstall pulseaudio and the alsa-base. Occasionally the clicks will
  be replaced by random noise.
