[Touch-packages] [Bug 873101] Re: Totem will only plays an .m4v file when it isn't online

2021-01-26 Thread Anthony Harrington
** Description changed:

- I'm using totem 3.0.1-0ubuntu7 (same version is listed for all totem
- related packages), on ubuntu 11.10 64bit.
-
- The issue is - if i try to watch an m4v video file in firefox, from my
- university's server
- (http://learn.lboro.ac.uk/file.php/997/Videos/Safety_Talk/Safety_Talk_-
- _iPhone.m4v), then totem searches for a suitable plugin and an error
- occurs: The playback of this movie requires a text/html decoder plugin
- which is not installed.
-
- However, if i 'save as' on the link to the video and put in on my
- computer, i can double click the video to run in totem and it runs
- perfectly?
-
- video/x-m4v MPEG-4 videom4vis listed in
- about:plugins
-
- Something's a bit inconsistent here - why can i only play the m4v video
- file on my computer and not directly from the internet?
+ -

Tried out the 6.7 kernel debs from
https://launchpad.net/~apparmor-dev/+archive/ubuntu/apparmor-devel/+packages
and this kernel also works splendidly without the audio bug.

Lovely stuff, thank you!

Confirming pipewire 1.0.1-1ubuntu3 is now available in noble-proposed and works
a charm.
A quick "systemctl --user restart pipewire*.service" or reboot has audio
working again on mainline and upstream kernels.

Yes, I similarly can't upgrade language-pack-en (1:17.10+20171002) to
language-pack-en (1:17.10+20171012) because
language-pack-en-base (>= 1:17.10+20171012) doesn't exist (yet). (latest is

Hold tight, dino99, this will be resolved when the next package update
goes through. The "LanguagePackTranslationDeadline" was the 12th and
final artful release is set for friday 19th, so it shouldn't take too
long at all.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1717769] Re: day of week in german despite i configured the system in english

2017-10-14 Thread Anthony Harrington
Hi Nicolas, thanks for the bug report.

On quick inspection, I can't see why this is happening.
Occasionally, native german speakers will accidentally translate strings that
are supposed to be under 'english (US/GB/CA/AU)' into German, however, as this
affects English US (the default language that is taken as-is without any
intervention from translators on launchpad's side - i.e. as the developers
originally wrote the strings), English US should be ok. I also can't see
anything in indicator-datetime that has been accidentally uploaded in German to
begin with?

Are you missing any required locale packages?
If it's not accepting English US for some strange reason, could you try
uninstalling any German locale packages (language-pack-de and
language-pack-de-base) (perhaps also language-pack-gnome-de and
language-pack-gnome-de-base to be safe) and be sure you have the "en"
equivalents.
Not sure why it isn't configuring the language properly.

Failing that, what happens if you switch your language to English UK? I
can personally vouch for English UK being fine as our team gets every
single string finished for the next ubuntu release, so everything's been
checked over (almost certainly by yours truly ;) )

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1723909] Re: [security] WPA2: Many vulnerabilities discovered

2017-10-16 Thread Anthony Harrington
This has been a mighty fine (and speedy) response to a big WPA2 flaw.
Kudos!

wpa (2.4-0ubuntu9.1) for zesty;
wpa (2.4-0ubuntu6.2) for xenial;
and wpa (2.1-0ubuntu1.5) for trusty are done so far and they address this bug.

(Obviously yakkety is no longer supported and ubuntu 16.10 users who
have stumbled upon this bug (or otherwise) are strongly encouraged to
upgrade. Ubuntu 16.10 reached EOL on July 20th 2017.)

Can 2.4-0ubuntu9.1 (or something else/numbered differently) simply be

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1732222] Re: Language support not installed matching locale

2017-12-28 Thread Anthony Harrington
Perhaps this bug report is meant for the ubiquity ubuntu installer?

If I understand correctly, the issue is that the user only gets one
chance to install the corresponding locale packages for their chosen
locale during first setup of ubuntu, and not again until they do it
manually after ubuntu's been installed? Or is it that some packages are
not being installed automatically after choosing English UK? Doesn't it
try to install as many relevant packages as it can already?

Would the ideal behaviour be 'user selects locale as British English (UK),
therefore install all related packages like: libreoffice-help-en-gb,
libreoffice-l10n-en-gb, myspell-en-gb, hunspell-en-gb during setup
automatically?
Just to confirm - these packages are included in the .iso locally, so they
wouldn't require an internet connection during first setup?

Do other languages have this issue?

  language options (see screenshot attached).

When this language support is installed, these applications then

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1732222] Re: Language support not installed matching locale

2017-12-29 Thread Anthony Harrington
Actually, this bug might be for gnome-language-selector.
If you have a look at your regional and language settings, it seems that so
long as your chosen language is any variant of english, it suggests to install
all the available language stuff (including libreoffice files) for ALL english
possibilities.

For example, I've already got most of the en-gb ones installed already on an
as-needed basis, and it's telling me to install the following or to remind it
later:

gimp-help-en
libreoffice-help-en-us
hunspell-en-ca
hyphen-en-ca
hyphen-en-gb
mythes-en-au
hunspell-en-us
wamerican
libreoffice-help-en-gb
mythes-en-us
libreoffice-l10n-en-za
hunspell-en-au
hyphen-en-us
hunspell-en-za

I'm not sure there's really an issue here...other than the language-
selector is perhaps not pushy enough that you should install some more
of the packages for en-gb. Noone wants it getting annoying, and you
_are_ free to install en-gb packages later? I guess that since english
US (default) is still understandable to an English UK reader, this was
never considered critical.

Language support not installed matching locale

Status in language-pack-en package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When Ubuntu is installed with UK locale settings during setup, all of
the language support is not installed and some applications e.g.
LibreOffice display with non-UK English. The extra language support is
prompted to be installed *the first time* the user accesses the
  language options (see screenshot attached).

When this language support is installed, these applications then
(correctly) display menus etc in UK English.

Ubuntu setup appears to not install the matching locale languages.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1717769] Re: day of week in german despite i configured the system in english

Think this is a bug in the language/locale selecting mechanism rather
than anything english language related.

day of week in german despite i configured the system in english

Status in localechooser package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Description
  ---
I chose the english language and live in Belgium. So I chose Brussels for the
Time Zone, and the Belgian keymap.

The Ubuntu date & time applet, in the top bar of the Ubuntu desktop
interface shows me "Son HH:MM", Son standing for "Sonntag" which is
german. I don't get why there is german in my interface since I
configured this language nowhere but English.

  Expected Behavior
  --
Having the day of week in English.

My configuration to reproduce the problem
  -
Here is the region & language configuration as seen in the settings pannel:
  Language: English (United States)
  Formats : Belgien
  Input Sources: Belgian

In the "Date & Time" settings:
  Time Zone: CEST (Brussels, Belgium)
