[Touch-packages] [Bug 1884307] Re: no Montréal listed in city?

2021-05-09 Thread Daniel LaSalle
I wanted to give an update to this as I am installing 21.04 and those
changes have somewhat been taken into consideration:

1. Thanks a lot for those;
2. During initial setup, city is listed as "Mont-real" while it should be
"Montréal" (Very minor cosmetic flaw);
3. When selecting "Mont-real" the "CONTINUE" button never shows up and I need
to use something like Toronto. Then it works (Minor bug?);

bug report this so why not ;)

Why are the only 2 selectable cities from GMT-5 (Eastern) are: Toronto
and NYC? There's also this other city called Montréal who hosts a
whole bunch of different of people in between the two.

Oh, and did you know that there was also a province and infrastructure
surrounding this whole city? We better be start using it in 2020!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1937087] Re: 21.04 - Sound issues (Analog Stereo Duplex VS Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + analog stereo input)

2021-08-19 Thread Daniel LaSalle
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Using 21.04-latest on a laptop that's main function is to listen to TV
  and watch videos.

The laptop is constantly plugged via HDMI into a 65" LCD screen and our
goal is to use the sound/speakers of the TV and not of the laptop.

The problem is not only two folds but it's also random.

After I did a full OS reinstall and left the settings to bare
minimum(vanilla), I have selected a RANDOM screensaver as default
alongside "Digital Stereo HDMI Output + analog Stereo Input" and when I
play a video, sound works as expected. Also, there is no "UI defects"
when selecting the hardware audio output (More on that "defect"
  later).

  So all is well.

If, for example, I leave the laptop idle and the(any? still not sure
about that) screensaver kicks in it will happen SOMETIMES that 1.
the default hardware audio gets defaulted back to "Analog Stereo Duplex"
(AKA the laptop speakers), the sound volume goes back to 100% (Because
it doesn't make sense from a user's perspective when watching a movie
that the sound only is set to 100%, it needs to be set to 160% or 200%
for the experience to be good(note to self: maybe I should also open
  another bug/annoyance for that))

Also, when restoring the session and that the volume went back to 100%
and that the default hardware output felt back to analog stereo duplex
ON TOP of that it seems there is a UI defect (look at the picture I will
  be posting after this).

Hope this is clear If not, thanks for letting me know.

21.04 - Sound issues (Analog Stereo Duplex VS Digital Stereo (HDMI)

Bug description:
Using 21.04-latest on a laptop that's main function is to listen to TV
  and watch videos.

The laptop is constantly plugged via HDMI into a 65" LCD screen and
our goal is to use the sound/speakers of the TV and not of the laptop.

The problem is not only two folds but it's also random.

After I did a full OS reinstall and left the settings to bare
minimum(vanilla), I have selected a RANDOM screensaver as default
alongside "Digital Stereo HDMI Output + analog Stereo Input" and when
I play a video, sound works as expected. Also, there is no "UI
defects" when selecting the hardware audio output (More on that
  "defect" later).

  So all is well.

If, for example, I leave the laptop idle and the(any? still not sure
about that) screensaver kicks in it will happen SOMETIMES that 1.
the default hardware audio gets defaulted back to "Analog Stereo
Duplex" (AKA the laptop speakers), the sound volume goes back to 100%
(Because it doesn't make sense from a user's perspective when watching
a movie that the sound only is set to 100%, it needs to be set to 160%
or 200% for the experience to be good(note to self: maybe I should
also open another bug/annoyance for that))

Also, when restoring the session and that the volume went back to 100%
and that the default hardware output felt back to analog stereo duplex
ON TOP of that it seems there is a UI defect (look at the picture I
  will be posting after this).

Hope this is clear If not, thanks for letting me know.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1942797] Re: 21.04 - Printer uncooperative (And incohesive) behavior after PWR ON+OFF+ON

2021-09-07 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Today I tried something new:

1st print attempt w/ firefox = same print error on printer
2nd print attempt w/ firefox = it printed out properly.

Using LOW to make it work was just a coincidence.

Title:
21.04 - Printer uncooperative (And incohesive) behavior after PWR
  ON+OFF+ON

Status in Ubuntu MATE:
  New
Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On a clone desktop running 21.04-latest which has the following LAN
  printer connected to it:

  $ lpstat -p130 ↵
printer _xeroxofficetq1_ is idle. enabled since Mon 06 Sep 2021 01:33:46 PM
printer C405 is idle. enabled since Mon 06 Sep 2021 01:33:46 PM
printer Xerox-CommonXCPT is idle. enabled since Wed 21 Jul 2021 09:58:10 AM
  $

If/when my system is up and I power off the printer, leave it off for
a few hours, replug the printer back, wait for it to boot and then
print using that same system's firefox, it will not work.

But if I open Libre Office Writer and print: then it shall print.

Immediately after, going back to the firefox window and re-printing
what has originally failed now prints too!

Here is what /var/log/cups/ had to say (This happened around 5 minutes

Using a laptop running 21.10-latest, using a Sony Wireless Controller
Model CUH-ZCT2U (The PS4 model), it seems impossible to connect via
  bluetooth to my laptop.

Even though both hcitool & bluetooth manager are able to see the
device, bonus mission bluetooth devices can also connect to it, but
this is fairly short as it automatically disconnects.

Here is what dmesg had to say about this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1995216] [NEW] X forgets monitor configuration when HDMI cable was unplugged and then re-plugged on a running system

2022-10-30 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Public bug reported:

Running 22.04.1, I am using a the following (See 01.png) monitor setup.

When I unplug the HDMI cable from my video card and plug it back, the
monitor has lost it's orientation (See 02.png)

If I then reconfigure the monitors I get the following (See 03.png).
However the changes are taken into consideration and the display is back
to normal.

Yet if I continue dragging the monitors around in that same interface
odd interface behavior start happening more frequently (See 04.png).

So this could perhaps be split into 2 bugs. I will let you decide.

Thanks,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1995216] Re: X forgets monitor configuration when HDMI cable was unplugged and then re-plugged on a running system

Title:
X forgets monitor configuration when HDMI cable was unplugged and then
  re-plugged on a running system

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Running 22.04.1, I am using a the following (See 01.png) monitor
  setup.

When I unplug the HDMI cable from my video card and plug it back, the
monitor has lost it's orientation (See 02.png)

If I then reconfigure the monitors I get the following (See 03.png).
However the changes are taken into consideration and the display is
  back to normal.

Yet if I continue dragging the monitors around in that same interface
odd interface behavior start happening more frequently (See 04.png).

So this could perhaps be split into 2 bugs. I will let you decide.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2043942] [NEW] Primary screen does not resume (post power management)

2023-11-19 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Public bug reported:

On a laptop with a HDMI screen plugged (using same image on all monitors):
It seems that after power management feature kicks in (in my case a blank
screen) and actions are resumed that the original (laptop) screen remains with
a full light grey and is unusable.

Recreation steps:
1. plug in a hdmi monitor into the hdmi plug of your laptop;
2. while the laptop remains charged+plugged in the wall watch something with
celluloid then resume in 2+ hours;
3. on external screen: full working desktop with mouse cursor and colors;
on laptop screen: full light grey screen, no life

nb: by totally unplugging (power and hdmi cable) the laptop it screen remains
unusable but TTY1-6 will work.
By replugging both cables the desktop will again show on the external screen
but laptop screen will remain unusable.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2043944] [NEW] WISHLIST-Make MOD+LEFT|RIGHT great

2023-11-19 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Public bug reported:

Dear Santa,

This year I have been augmenting my TTY7 keyboard skillz and in that
respect the MOD+arrow key resizing capabilities.

As we know pressing MOD+right arrow shall flawlessly redraw the
currently selected window into half of the right side of the screen.

Based on my user expertise each and every time I invoke it I always
always always end up having to ALT+TAB to another window that I will
then MOD+left arrow to complement it. And so that I can see both windows
simultaneously.

My wish for this year is to automate the ALT+TAB part yet I have to ask
if this a X feature or if it's a MATE feature or ...? In that respect
this as a xorg bug.

But back to the problem: Redmond has got this feature implemented
already on their end. From our end it just currently looks like it's
halfway implemented. If not made a default behavior then for sure there
should be a way to allow the automated resizing of a 2nd screen once any
combination of the MOD+arrow keys will have been typed.

Cheers,

'lil Dan

PS: by "MOD" I mean the "windoze key" AKA MOD4?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2042042] Re: Browser does not remember workspace after leaving full screen video

browser was in before going into full screen that it will end up on the
opposite workspace after getting unmaximized.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2042708] [NEW] Monitor preferences isn't fluid after 3rd monitor plugged in

2023-11-03 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded from dual monitors by adding one up now up to
three.

Detecting the monitor went ok. However recalibration messed up my screen
positions.

Another issue is that when attempting to recreate physical setup under
"monitor preferences" isn't very friendly. Read: you need to battle with
it.

By "battle with it" I mean that you cannot just choose any monitor and
flip it over per it's physical position. In my case I was able to
replicate my setup after having dragged the right-most monitor instead
of the center one. As moving the center one brought hell in the
interface.

By "hell in the interface" I mean that the flow of the monitors wasn't
easy. It is impossible to simply drag and drop the monitor wherever but
instead it will move down into some impossible position and REFUSE to go
back up, or worst, to it's original place.

Before plugging in the 3rd monitor I had a full workspace displayed in
the regular left/right format.

After plugging in my 3rd monitor that workspace had been separated and
broken. So instead of dragging the mouse from the left monitor to the
right one as regularly I had to access it from the left side.

Before plugging in this 3rd monitor both of my screens (the ones in red
and blue colors) were close to another without any green space in
between them.

Of course in order to reach the spawned desktop in between any of those
monitors I need to drag the mouse quite a long road before it reaches as
we can see from the amount of green spacing in between them.

Title:
Monitor preferences isn't fluid after 3rd monitor plugged in

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have just upgraded from dual monitors by adding one up now up to
  three.

Detecting the monitor went ok. However recalibration messed up my
  screen positions.

Another issue is that when attempting to recreate physical setup under
"monitor preferences" isn't very friendly. Read: you need to battle
  with it.

By "battle with it" I mean that you cannot just choose any monitor and
flip it over per it's physical position. In my case I was able to
replicate my setup after having dragged the right-most monitor instead
of the center one. As moving the center one brought hell in the
  interface.

By "hell in the interface" I mean that the flow of the monitors wasn't
easy. It is impossible to simply drag and drop the monitor wherever
but instead it will move down into some impossible position and REFUSE
to go back up, or worst, to it's original place.

Before plugging in the 3rd monitor I had a full workspace displayed in
  the regular left/right format.

After plugging in my 3rd monitor that workspace had been separated and
broken. So instead of dragging the mouse from the left monitor to the
right one as regularly I had to access it from the left side.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2042711] [NEW] Weird "system restart required" screen placement

2023-11-03 Thread Daniel LaSalle
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 23.04 to 23.10 it now appears that what I assume to
be the front-end of apt displays a button at the top with what looks
like a WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION logo.

The only indicator that this is related to apt is only when hovering the
mouse cursor over any portion of this blue button will say that a reboot
is required.

I have this problem on 2 systems with the same exact upgrade history
path.
