I'm afraid trying the utopic stack on my 14.04 install doesn't work - can't be installed. A fresh install of 14.04.2 to get the same, breaks all sorts of things and don't allow me to work. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1429670] [NEW] Desktop reverts to defaults, can't be changed
Public bug reported: All of a sudden my launcher icons, wallpaper image etc, reverted to default, and when I "unlock from launcher" on the defaults, they disappear after about a second, and then reappear when I tried to re- arrange the icon order. I think there's perhaps something screwy with gconf (? - isn't that where the personal launcher app list is?) because another setting went away and can't be restored (I use caps lock as another control). However, I don't know how to test this or where to look for logs, and the *symptoms* turn up in Unity. If anyone can help with places to look for diagnostics etc., I'd appreciate it. Thanks. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1366876] Re: Xorg freeze
Sadly, since this happens typically once every 1-3 days, and on a work machine, with 14.04 required, so I'm not really able to try out a fresh install. It might be worth my while trying out the LTS stack, to get a more recent kernel. Right now I'm having a problem installing the utopic LTS (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack), but if I can get past that I'll see if it improves things. It did happen to me yesterday with no syslog message apart from "[drm] stuck on render ring". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366876 Title: Xorg freeze Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Desktop display freezes temporarily, for (approx) 20s or so, approx once a day, with mouse pointer still working. Is there any chance of this bug going anywhere? I'm happy to help diagnose. It still happens to me 5+ times a week, and on two different laptops (both Lenovo X230). Sometimes it just hangs - most recently today the only thing in syslog was: kernel: [522947.074816] [drm] stuck on render ring In that case it only froze for about 10s. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366876 Title: Xorg freeze Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Desktop display freezes temporarily, for (approx) 20s or so, approx once a day, with mouse pointer still working. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1309299] Re: hud activates too quickly on 14.04
Adding a me-too. I came from 12.04 using Unity-2d, and use Emacs so use the alt key a lot, and use emacs-style Alt shortcuts in the terminal too. I'm endlessly having to deal with an unwanted HUD. Firstly, since the HUD doesn't work for Emacs, it shouldn't appear at all for apps for which it's disabled. But secondly the heuristics are all wrong. I love the HUD, but I'm going to have to change the shortcut key because it's making my system infuriating. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309299 Title: hud activates too quickly on 14.04 Status in Unity HUD: Invalid Status in Unity: New Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04, the HUD appears at unwanted times and captures keystrokes. In gnome-terminal, type alt-s. ESC s will be sent correctly to the terminal, but the HUD will then appear and capture subsequent keystrokes. The HUD feels a bit more sensitive now; I've had to move it to a different key combination to avoid this issue. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1347638] [NEW] Launch1 button doesn't work on shortcuts
Public bug reported: Hardware: Thinkpad X230, but seemingly all Thinkpads. (Apologies if this is mis-characterized as a Unity bug - not sure where to put it) The special Thinkpad button, often called "ThinkVantage" button, used to work fine for keyboard shortcuts in 12.04, as configured in the keyboard settings panel. In 14.04 it is possible to assign it to a shortcut in the keyboard settings dialog, where it shows up as Launch1, but it doesn't work - they shortcut is not activated by hitting that key. The key appears to get through to the desktop and apps, because if I hit it while Emacs has focus it complains that nothing is assigned to XF86Launch1 (in 12.04 the key didn't get through to Emacs and there was no problem) Discussion of this, including some other's outputs, is here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=890 - xev gives this on keypress/release: MappingNotify event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248 KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x401, root 0xa2, subw 0x0, time 2883009, (-1684,706), root:(610,758), state 0x0, keycode 156 (keysym 0x1008ff41, XF86Launch1), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x401, root 0xa2, subw 0x0, time 2883009, (-1684,706), root:(610,758), state 0x0, keycode 156 (keysym 0x1008ff41, XF86Launch1), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False - acpi_listen gives: button/prog1 PROG1 0080 K - ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: unity 7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-32.57-generic 3.13.11.4 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-32-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, resize, place, grid, vpswitch, gnomecompat, mousepoll, session, move, obs, imgpng, snap, regex, animation, expo, ezoom, staticswitcher, workarounds, wall, fade, scale] CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Wed Jul 23 08:11:18 2014 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-07-11 (11 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty ** Description changed: + Hardware: Thinkpad X230, but seemingly all Thinkpads. + (Apologies if this is mis-characterized as a Unity bug - not sure where to put it) The special Thinkpad button, often called "ThinkVantage" button, used to work fine for keyboard shortcuts in 12.04, as configured in the keyboard settings panel. In 14.04 it is possible to assign it to a shortcut in the keyboard settings dialog, where it shows up as Launch1, but it doesn't work - they shortcut is not activated by hitting that key.
