  PPC: no mpeg-2 video playback

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Running Ubuntu Mate 16.04a2 on a PowerBook5,8 (15" G4, 2 GB RAM and
ATI Radeon 9700 128 MB RAM) with latest updates.

VLC (media player 2.2.2 Weatherwax (revision 2.2.2-0-g6259d80)) does
not display video encoded with mpeg-2, only audio. The videos are not
  css-encrypted.

Other formats like mpeg4, h.264 or h.265 work well with VLC!

DVD playback with VLC failed too.

VLC menu items don't enable during playback

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since upgrading to 15.04 (and hence Unity 7.3.2) I'm having trouble
  with the menus in VLC.

Several items on the "Video" menu are disabled when playback is
stopped and are meant to become enabled during playback.

I initially reported this as a bug in VLC, but they reckon it's a
Unity issue as the right-click context menu works fine:
  https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=125719&p=422755#p422755

I have confirmed this happens with both Statusbar menus and Locally
Integrated menus. And I can also confirm that on the last day of 14.10
before I upgraded it was working fine in that version of Unity.

I've also confirmed that changing to different VLC packages (such as
those from PPAs) does not resolve the issue.

  Thanks for your help!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374825] Re: VDPAU does not work in libav on Utopic

2014-09-27 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
"[7f909958] vdpau_avcodec generic error: decoder profile not
supported: 6" means that:

1) your libavcodec installation does support VDPAU properly, and
2 ) your VDPAU driver does not support H.264 decoding at all (or reports
incorrect capabilities).

Closing as invalid.
