[Touch-packages] [Bug 1698604] Re: login will show unmasked password if user types too fast on a slow system

2020-07-09 Thread Springnuts
Just had this when updating Ubuntu via the terminal - first three
characters of sudo password displayed on terminal (where the green blob
is on the photo).

Title:
login will show unmasked password if user types too fast on a slow
  system

Status in shadow package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
At the login, from the terminal, the user must login using his
  username and password.

The program first displays " login:", then the user enters his
username. Once the user has pressed "enter", he must enter his
password. The user may type too quickly before "Password:" appears and
thus what he types before "Password:" was displayed will appear on the
  screen.

This occurs when the computer is slow when verifying the login
username. Users that are used to fast computer will start typing right
their password right after pressing "enter" and the characters will
  appear on the screen.

The result would be something like this:

  Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS computername tty2

  computername login: myusername

  mypPassword:

People who may look at my screen will see that my password starts with
"myp". The other characters typed after that "Password:" was displayed
  are invisible.

The solution would be to make every characters that are typed after
the user has entered his password invisible. It could also be a good
idea to give the user a sound cue (a PC speaker beep) when he enters a
character in the case where he starts typing his password too fast.

2018-08-05 Thread Springnuts
I should add, the menu remained at the front of the screen - ie it hid
that area of any other program opened on that screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577710] [NEW] USB Mouse has to be unplugged and replugged in to work

2016-05-03 Thread Springnuts
Public bug reported:

General info:

What is the full manufacturer and model of your mouse - Not known:
generic USB unbranded mouse

How is your mouse connected to your PC: serial, PS/2, USB, USB
wireless, etc. - USB

What mechanism does your mouse use: roller ball, optical, trackball,
etc. - Optical

How many physical buttons and scrollwheels does you mouse have? - 2
buttons; one wheel (which also functions as centre button)

Two problems:

When plugged in the mouse is detected and starts working. After shut
down and restart, it does not work. If then unplugged and plugged in it
works perfectly again.

A second issue is that it works only if plugged into the USB 3.0 ports
on the left side of the laptop. It does not work in the USB 2.0 ports
on the right side of the machine. When running 15.10 it worked in any
USB port and did not need to be unplugged and re-plugged to work.
Machine is HP 455 G2 Laptop, AMD A series A8-7100 1.8 GHz, 4GB RAM,
500GB HDD, 15.6" Display, DVDRW, AMD Radeon R5, Webcam, Bluetooth.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1385457] Re: Show desktop shows remains of previous windows not wallpaper

The problem is only present in Unity; logging on to Xubuntu there is no
sign of it. So I guess it is a Unity issue?

Updated BIOS - no imporvement.
Switched to Gnome - I have my wallpaper back, and no sign of issues so far.
So, is it a Unity thing?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1385457] Re: Show desktop shows remains of previous windows not wallpaper

2014-10-25 Thread Springnuts
Have added xorg edgers ppa repository, and am now using the correct nvidia
driver 340.46. (see
http://www.binarytides.com/install-nvidia-drivers-ubuntu-14-04/).
Problem persists.
Addition symptom - unchanged - is that when first logging on there is a period
of grace during which the windows do clear away properly when closed or
minimised - about two or three minutes.
