https://askubuntu.com/questions/377687/how-do-i-connect-to-a-wifi-

Title:
Cannot connect to wifi having short password

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I can't connect to a wifi network with security "WPA & WPA2 Personal"
and a password of 7 ASCII characters. Of course this password is
invalid, but I can't change that, and I should be able to connect
anyway. Actually I could connect the first time, and after that it
wouldn't enable the "connect" button anymore. I hope we're not in the
business of policing other people's wifi... I really can't configure
their system, but if you relax the constraints on your side, then I
can have wifi access and work on my PhD project. Thanks for
considering the net value of policing other people.

Title:
Short wireless passwords impossible to enter

Status in wireless-tools package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  1)
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
  Release: 12.04
  2)

  network-manager-gnome:
Installed: 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.3
Candidate: 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.3
Version table:
   *** 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.3 0
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64
Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
   0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2 0
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages

  3)
I expect the network-manager to accept wireless passwords of any length.
(Perhaps with a warning for short ones.)

  4)
Wireless passwords that are too short are impossbile to enter using
nm-connection-editor until they reach a minimum length. In this case a coffee
shop with the wireless password framed on the wall for all to see.
