  Configuring a mellanox connectx device with configured VF's into
  switchdev (rather than legacy) mode result in the ip cli tool erroring
  when trying to query the interface state:

  When triggering a suspend even from the lid switch of my Lenovo T460 it takes 
30 seconds to reach suspend state. Several others with different models of 
Lenovo laptops have also reproduced this issue. 

  It seems this is isolated to the lid switch as UI triggered suspend
  (alt+power icon) is far faster.

Hmm, I am really sorry about that - sux to do all that work and get that
kind of response.

So making the suggested changes seems like real work to me. Do you have
a rough estimate?
