Title:
  [Mediatek] mt8195-demo: please help to include these MediaTek drivers
  in initrd.img in CD/DVD release image

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Peripheral probe failure for MediaTek boards 'mt8195-demo' and
'genio-1200-evk'.

  [Ubuntu Version]
  Jammy

  [initramfs-tools]
  0.140ubuntu13.4

  [Kernel version]
  5.15 -> 6.2
  (Generate initrd.img-6.2.0 on 5.15 kernel.)

  [Fix]
  I've used 'dracut' to examing the driver dependencies for boards
'mt8195-demo' and 'genio-1200-evk'.
  It is able to buot into console and use USB port3.
  Hope these drivers could help to run installer with USB disk in next daily
build.

  Note: It won't work with 'update-initramfs -u -k 6.2.0-34-generic' if
  just simply add driver lists in '/etc/modules',
  '/etc/modprobe.d/mediatek.conf' or '/etc/modules-
  load.d/mediatek.conf'. I fixed this issue with 'dracut' and it seems
  this tool will include more common framework drivers into initrd.img.

  Corruption is seen on windowed 3D apps running on dGPU

  [Test case]

  Get a certain Intel/AMD hybrid machine, run 'DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears',
  see how the window has corrupted gfx.

  The fix is to patch Intel i965_dri driver.

  [Regression potential]

  There could be a slight loss of performance, but corruption free
  behaviour.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  A new upstream bugfix release is available. Release note diff compared
  to 17.2.2:

  "Mesa 17.2.3 is now available.

  In this release we have:

  The Vulkan drivers ANV and RADV have multiple small fixes.

  The EGL code has improved handling of the new wl_dmabuf codepath.

  SWR no longer crashes when checking environment variables.

  Other gallium drivers have also seen updates - freedreno, nouveau and
  radeonsi. The gallivm module, used by llvmpipe et al. has gained little
  endian PPC64 fixes.

  The VA and VDPAU state-trackers have seems improvements handling
  interlaced videos.

  We're using python3 compatible constructs which gives us SCons 3.0
  support."

  "Mesa 17.2.4 is now available.

  In this release we have:

  In Mesa Core we have included a change to prevent KOTOR from breaking
  when in combination with the ATI fragment shader extension.
  Additionally, NIR has also received a correction.

  Mesa's state tracker has gotten a patch to avoid leaks in certain
  situations like when resizing a window.

  Intel drivers have received several fixes. The compiler has gotten a
  couple, while anv also received one. i965 got a patch to avoid VA-
  API, Beignet and other contexts in the system to break when in
  combination with previous versions of Mesa 17.2.x.

  AMD's compiler has received a couple of fixes while radv has also
  received another couple, including one to avoid a hang due to an
  overflow on huge textures.

  Broadcom's vc4 has corrected a problem when compiling with Android's
  clang.

  clover has also seen fixed a problem compiling after a specific clang
  revision.

  Vulkan's WSI has gotten plugged a memory leak for X11."

  [Test case]

  Test typical use cases on the most common hw/driver combinations:
  intel/i965
  nvidia/nouveau
  radeon/radeonsi

  [Regression potential]

  These releases are tested against compliance, bugfix releases in
  particular have minimal risk of regressing anything major at least.

2017-09-14 Thread ethan.hsieh

Here is my test result: (InstallOnShutdown:true)

Packages will be installed when rebooting system.
I rebooted system five times, but system still didn't finish the update.
It took too long to finish online update.

@Brian
My test result with Balint's patch is in #22.

According to the previous test in #18, the behavior of my test script is
different from apt-daily timer. If you want to reproduce this issue, creating
override.conf would be a better way.
---
sudo cat << EOF > /etc/systemd/system/apt-daily.timer.d/override.conf
[Timer]
OnCalendar=
OnCalendar= *-*-* XX:YY
RandomizedDelaySec=1m
AccuracySec=1m
EOF
fi
PS: Please remember to modify XX:YY to the time you want.

The attached patch can fix the communication between u-u and u-u-shutdown.
However, without workaround 1 or 2 in #19, u-u will be killed when users
reboot/shutdown the device.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1690980] Re: No pop-up window to warn users that system should not reboot or shutdown while installing security updates

2017-06-29 Thread ethan.hsieh
In xenial and yakkety, unattended-upgrade can finish security updates
after applying workaround 1&2.

workaround 3: If users reboot/shutdown by UI, there will be a pop-up window
which asks users for root password.
If users reboot/shutdown by command (sudo reboot), unattended-upgrade will be
killed and cannot finish security updates.

Workaround 1:
/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily.service
[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/usr/lib/apt/apt.systemd.daily
+KillMode=none
+TimeoutStopSec=0

Wordaround 2:
/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily.service
[Unit]
Description=Daily apt activities
Documentation=man:apt(8)
+DefaultDependencies=no
+Before=shutdown.target

Workaround 3:
/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily.service
[Service]
Type=oneshot
-ExecStart=/usr/lib/apt/apt.systemd.daily
+ExecStart=/bin/systemd-inhibit --what=shutdown --mode=block
/usr/lib/apt/apt.systemd.daily

---
the code flow of unattended-upgrades:
(1) -> apt_pkg.get_lock() -> do_install() -> (2)

If users reboot/shutdown system in (1), unattended-upgrades-shutdown
will break from monitoring loop and then there will no message to tell
user that security update is ongoing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1690980] Re: No pop-up window to warn users that system should not reboot or shutdown while installing security updates

2017-06-23 Thread ethan.hsieh
I added more debug messages (ps -aef | grep unatteded-upgrade) to
unattended-upgrades-shutdown.
In xenial, it looks like unattended-upgrade is killed before
unattended-upgrades-shutdown is running.
That is why unattended-upgrades-shutdown can get lock.

Log:

2017-05-25 Thread ethan.hsieh
@Brian Murray
It seems to me that Yakkety (16.10) deals better with a reboot while
unattended-upgrades is running.

After I shutdowned system by GUI, I saw the following message.
"Unattended-upgrade in progress during shutdown, sleeping for 5s
Progress: 67.5656 % .."
(Please check logs as attached)

And, I still can login to Ubuntu desktop after shutdown.

In my case, the installation of linux-header/linux-image was interrupted, and
then system failed to boot to Ubuntu desktop. unattended-upgrades had no chance
to finish the installation. It looks like not all packages can be recovered
after reboot.
It seems to me that the ideal way is that reboot/shutdown is blocked until
unattended-upgrades finishes secure update.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1690980] Re: No pop-up window to warn users that system should not reboot or shutdown while installing security updates

2017-05-16 Thread ethan.hsieh
@Brian Murray

When I saw this issue first time, unattended-upgrades was triggered
automatically.
I tried to reproduce this issue, so I executed the python script manually.

I filed the bug because users don't know security updates is ongoing
when unattended-upgrades is triggered automatically. If users reboot or
shutdown system at that moment, system may fail to boot at next time.

Title:
  Backport support for AMD Polaris

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in mesa source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released
Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Xenial has x-x-v-amdgpu 1.1.0 but 1.1.2 adds more PCI-ID's and fixes bugs.

  Mesa needs a bunch of commits backported from 12.0.x. [update] 12.0.6
  backported instead

  [Test case]
  Test desktop with a Polaris GPU, it should run with full 2D/3D-acceleration

  [Regression potential]
  This is a stable upstream release, and 16.10 ships the same versions so
regression potential should be minimal.
