What happens when it is not successful is that you get a black screen and not video output or sound output at all, from android's perspective everything is working as you can see this in logcat: Is playing?: yes Interestingly enough, when it does work, you can see audioflinger complain about the power management service: c|W/AudioFlinger( 554): Thread AudioOut_2 cannot connect to the power manager service whilst no audioflinger message when it doesn't. This happens 1 out of 3 boots it seems so I'm setting the initial importance of the bug as High.
