Title:
  Unity icons stops responding

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Occasionally, not currently reproducible, I am unable to select any of
the icons in the left, or top menus. The last time occurred after
switching users. The only way I have been able to recover is to open
a terminal, and run unity. The last time I had to do so twice before
anything worked - the first time left me with no working window
manager at all. The only mouse interactions that work are to pick a
window, and the right click menu over the desktop or open window. I'm
not sure if the appropriate package is xorg or something unity
  specific.

The following shows me opening gedit (to find the command to reset), followed
by running unity twice (the first time failing).

you please test http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1530872] Re: Unity icons stops responding

2016-01-25 Thread Darryl Champagne
The issue has reoccurred after the BIOS Update. Circumstances were similar, two
logins, switching between them. The only other things occurring at the time
was plugging in a USB Stick, and using the screen app (screen -R -D, to check
on minecraft servers that were running). I believe I was logged into the 2nd
account, but the USB stick auto-mounted under the first account (the one I had
logged into first).
Still no direct way to reproduce.

2016-01-19 Thread Darryl Champagne
Updated BIOS on 1/19/16. Have not seen the issue in the first 5
minutes, but will wait to update status until it has had a couple of
days. Too soon to tell...

darryl@Server:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
[sudo] password for darryl:
P2.50

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1530872] Re: Unity icons stops responding

2016-01-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Darryl Champagne, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme6/?cat=Download&os=BIOS an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.50).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  Unity icons stops responding

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Occasionally, not currently reproducible, I am unable to select any of
the icons in the left, or top menus. The last time occurred after
switching users. The only way I have been able to recover is to open
a terminal, and run unity. The last time I had to do so twice before
anything worked - the first time left me with no working window
manager at all. The only mouse interactions that work are to pick a
window, and the right click menu over the desktop or open window. I'm
not sure if the appropriate package is xorg or something unity
  specific.

The following shows me opening gedit (to find the command to reset), followed
by running unity twice (the first time failing).
  darryl@Server:~$ gedit &
  [1] 13436
  darryl@Server:~$ unity
  unity-panel-service stop/waiting
