[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786195] Re: broken audio/muffled, no system audio

2018-09-10 Thread Chorca
My issue seems to be localized to only the right speaker on a Thinkpad
x270, and the issue happens in Windows as well, so it may be due to a
blown speaker on my laptop.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786195] Re: broken audio/muffled, no system audio

2018-09-10 Thread Dominic Anderson
The bug was not gone when using kernel 4.4

there was also an additional kernel between 4.4 and 4.15 that was
available. I tried that as well. same result.no fix.

Since then I backed up my system and did a completely fresh install of
18.04LTS and the issue is still not fixed.

2018-09-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Dominic: Can you please rephrase that? Was the bug gone when using
kernel 4.4? And yes Ubuntu 18.04 ships with kernel 4.15, which is why we
need you to test downgrading the kernel to an older version.

Chorca: Please log a new bug of your own.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786195] Re: broken audio/muffled, no system audio

2018-09-09 Thread Chorca
Having what I believe is the same issue. Internal Intel HDA audio is
distorted at normal maximum volume on Xubuntu, at 100% and not above.
Seems to be distorted at lower volume levels as well. System sounds are
distorted as well as sounds from media applications. This is recent to
me as it seems to have been working fine less than a month ago.

2018-08-09 Thread Dominic Anderson
"16.04 used kernel 4.4 and you are presently using kernel 4.15"

Have been running 18.04 for a week. Until earlier today issue was not
present, each day until now however, had been just fine. Is "4.15" the
same kernel used at install of "18.04"?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1786195] Re: broken audio/muffled, no system audio

2018-08-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. If the sound worked fine in Ubuntu 16.04 then that's useful
information. 16.04 used kernel 4.4 and you are presently using kernel
4.15

Next, please try installing an older kernel version and see if that
fixes the problem.

1. Download these:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.146/linux-headers-4.4.146-0404146_4.4.146-0404146.201808061143_all.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.146/linux-headers-4.4.146-0404146-generic_4.4.146-0404146.201808061143_amd64.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.146/linux-image-4.4.146-0404146-generic_4.4.146-0404146.201808061143_amd64.deb

2. In a terminal run:
  cd ~/Downloads
  sudo dpkg -i linux*4.4.146*deb

3. Reboot and hold down Shift at start-up to choose the different kernel
version.

4. Now check the new kernel is active by running:
  uname -a
and send us the output.
