This is the case even when the volume button on speaker is at 100%. Also the volume level set in the panel is 100%. In jaunty I never had to set the volume in speakers at 100%. 50% was more than sufficient. The issue is observed when using rhythmbox, totem, moovida, VLC. VLC gives most loud volume of the four but even that is not very audible for more than 5 feet distance.
