Title:
Speaker volume depends from rhytmbox setting

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Since Hardy, I upgrade my system to a devel release at some point between
alpha1 and alpha5.
Every time, I get a really annoying problem, which is that my speaker volume
is zeroed when I log in. Every time I want to hear something from my laptop
speakers, I have to open up alsamixer and raise the speaker volume.
This problem, always REMAINS when the release becomes stable.
Some days ago, as a consequence of a profile corruption, I had to delete my
.gconf folder, and I found out that volume worked right.
When I restored it from a backup, it stopped working again.

I found out that for some strange reasons, this behavior depends upon a
setting in .gconf/apps/rhythmbox/state/%gconf.xml
I had an entry that was like

  Note the "value".
I wiped it out, saved the file, restarted rhythmbox and the new line was

restarting my session left me with a working speaker.

So my "bug report" is: why on earth should the whole profile speaker
  setting depend on rhythmbox?

I filed it as an "audio" bug, so apport should add some audio settings
and file, but I disabled the package indication, which was set to
pulseaudio that I don't think should be responsible for this.
