  There are issues with the quality of the input in Skype; other people
  cannot hear me, they tell me that the sound is garbled. Also, I need
  to have the system sound settings > input tab open in order for them

Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.
