As a result, they had to constantly check if the network is back, and then resend the message again. Phone is often used on the move, and network issue can be a common issue when such as on the train or around places where full of high buildings. It is important to design for these retrictions. Proposed solution: Until we have Save as draft support, I'd propose the following: - If we detect No Network or No SIM Card and the user presses Send, directly add the message to the message thread, but mark it as failed (with the resend icon visible) - Then pop up the dialog as we do today This way, the message is part of the history and the user can resend whenever is convenient without losing their message. Also, eventually when we have auto resend these messages will be in the queue. This can either take my attention away from driving or I need to wait until the next stop light to advance the song. This is less of a concern when the greeter can just be swiped with one gesture, but is a big concern if you enable the passcode lock where you have to add the passcode to access the player. I've a feeling that tabs in a phone factor browser are a bit shoehorned in, I'd actually be much happier having separate items in the right-edge spread for the open websites instead of introducing a second axis on which to switch between tabs. I remember it was a desire to explode tabbed UIs in the Super+S spread in Unity, but it was not possible technically. Maybe it could be made possible today? Whether tabs would exist grouped in the same right-edge stack, or as completely independent entities, remains to be investigated. Maybe we'd explode the tabs on touch or pinch or something. I just can't see the purpose of tabs if they're not readily available, which on a phone form factor would be a waste of precious screen estate. ** Also affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1426559 Title: [Shell] Bring the HUD back to Unity 8 Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: New Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: One of the most innovative, useful, and wildly popular features introduced into Unity 7 was the HUD. Unity 8 currently does not have it. When Unity 8 was started, we had a way of accessing the HUD with a long-swipe from the bottom edge. However, the API to use it was late in being added to the SDK, and changed in incompatible ways after it was available, and as a result only a few apps (including one of my own) had taken advantage of it. Moreover user testing showed that the swipe-up activation was not easily discover-able by users. When the toolbar/header was redesigned and the bottom-edge gesture given to app developers, the way of accessing the HUD was removed, and the API was removed before the first supported API freeze. Before switching to Unity 8 on the desktop we will need to re- introduce the HUD into Unity, to avoid a feature regression that many have come to expect and appreciate. Moreover, we should re-introduce it on the phone so that apps can once again start taking advantage of it, so we can learn how to provide new use cases and user interactions for phone/tablet apps. In order to match, as much as possible, the Unity 7 way of accessing the HUD, my recommendation would be to implement it like an Indicator, but always on the far left of the panel. Then it would be touch- accessible with a swipe down from the top, or switchable from within the drop-down of another indicator, placing it at the same screen position as it is on the Unity 7 desktop. Placing the window title or simple Menu in that location of the panel (or switching between them, depending on available space) would aid in discovery of the feature. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1372646] Re: Can't correct SMS number after entering it wrong once
If it helps, this is how it works on the iPhone, sending a message to a number with and without the country code (UK - Germany). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1331346] Re: [address book] No access to contacts on SIM
The long term plan is to include an import option into the Address Book app settings.
