Re: [Trisquel-users] HTPC Controlled By Gamepad - Home/Launcher Button
I found these pages on Xorg configuration and Joystick drivers for Xorg on ArchWiki. These tips should do the trick or at least get me somewhere. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Joystick
Re: [Trisquel-users] proper/practical use of tor
I think it's better to use Tor Browser Bundle because is full supported and tested by thousands of people. Other configurations, as said, may leaks info dangerous for your anonimity. As use case I think you can use TBB for all usual surfing activity, except for those that can reveal your identity (log in your bank account, various social network, personal blog etc etc.). Here you can find some suggestions https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/TorifyHOWTO about torifying applications. Another good combination could be using some applications with proxychains + privoxy but i don't know how much secure is. I use it for some terminal applications.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upload stuff in gobblin.se
I've the same issue. Tried 3 times but all my upload failed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upload stuff in gobblin.se
Have any of you been able to contact the maintainer of gobblin.se? I have sent him an email, but considering that I am currently using a tor hidden service as mail server, he might not receive my emails (most of these emails accounts are considered spam by the official emails services). If you guys want, you can contact him at j...@wandborg.se Let me know if you guys can get it fixed :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] proper/practical use of tor
I think that if you want to use Tor and be sure that you are somewhat protected, you should begin by doing a little research on what Tor is and how it works. These videos might help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hZZNFQm1Vs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=001VMHpsYlw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GanD_lCqLA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=864FxA3jmHk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJNxbpbHA-I After you watch those, you will conclude that Tor is the safest way to do you everyday browsing, but you should stick to the Tor Browser Bundle and even so not mess too much with the configurations, because anonimity loves company. So you want to look like everyone else, and not like someone sticking out in the crowd. You don't really need to have Tor being used for updates anyway, for example, and the same goes for using Bank accounts and Facebook (unless you are on the run and don't want to get caught, lol, that case Tor will hide your physical location). Anyway, watch those I mentioned, and you will be able to work it all out by yourself.
Re: [Trisquel-users] securing trisquel
Why do I have the feeling (looking at LibreVPN webpage) that it is a rip-off of Tor and I2P? :S
Re: [Trisquel-users] fritzbox dns server not working
anybody? i'm still quite new to linux so maybe i'm having a newbie problem. any hint would be highly appreciated. adding '.fritz.box' after the servername works: ssh u...@rasp1.fritz.box my resolv.conf: # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN nameserver 127.0.0.1 search fritz.box nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 213.186.33.99 search trisquel.info domain trisquel.info
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upload stuff in gobblin.se
Goblin is working. I uploaded a clip http://gobblin.se/u/dadix/m/trisquel-6-my-customisation-with-compiz-emerald-and-mate-desktop/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upload stuff in gobblin.se
I noticed your video upload, yes, but for me and other people is not working. Which format, size, codecs, etc, you used? I already tried with both ogg and mp4, files ranging from 5 to 100 MBs. The problem is not the upload or the conversion, is at the moment of publishing the link for public, it fails. See above.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upload stuff in gobblin.se
that clip is made with kazam (version Kazam - NX-01) from unstable repo (deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kazam-team/unstable-series/ubuntu precise main ). I set fps to 25 and codec to h264/mp4. I also installed gstreamer0.10-alsa.
[Trisquel-users] JFreeChart, free software? Free Alternative?
Hi, I'm looking to maybe use a tool such a JFreeChart. However, I'm not sure if it is considered free software. It is not listed in FSF directory and wikipedia states it is an 'open source framework'. The projects website though states it is free software (http://www.jfree.org/jfreechart/). Have others had any experience with using this software? If it is not free software can you suggest a free software alternative? I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] HTPC Controlled By Gamepad - Home/Launcher Button
have you tried playing with xserver-xorg-input-joystick it allows a joystick to be used like a mouse...
Re: [Trisquel-users] JFreeChart, free software? Free Alternative?
According to http://www.jfree.org/jfreechart/faq.html#FAQ4, it's licensed under the LGPL which makes it free software.
Re: [Trisquel-users] JFreeChart, free software? Free Alternative?
Ok thanks, I was under the impression that you cannot assume software licensed under GPL (and its variants) is free software.
[Trisquel-users] Delayed Public Domain Dedication
How would I do a delayed Public Domain dedication on a copyrighted work? In the copyright notice of the Advanced Shell Scripting Guide (at the bottom of the page), it says: The author intends that this book be released into the Public Domain after a period of 14 years from initial publication, i.e., in 2014. In the early years of the American republic this was the duration statutorily granted to a copyrighted work. (See http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/copyright.html) If it works, then it went into the public domain this year.
Re: [Trisquel-users] best thinkpad x60 wifi card
thanks both of you! AR5B22 looks interessting because it includes bluetooth too. Still don't know, if looking at temperature the newer cards are better than the older once.
Re: [Trisquel-users] fritzbox dns server not working
I don't know what the solution is, but I think the problem is that the local domain fritz.box hasn't been defined anywhere. Some distros ask for this when you install them, so maybe they put it in a configuration file somewhere and Trisquel doesn't.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problem with File Browser
How can to run video Like this without flash player on Trisquel http://www.syrianarmyfree.com/vb/showthread.php?t=61527 I have madness
Re: [Trisquel-users] best thinkpad x60 wifi card
The bluetooth part on all the Atheros cards require non-free firmware for operation. If your laptop does not have a separate bluetooth module, then you're out-of-luck, and only an external solution will work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upload stuff in gobblin.se
I don't want to promote non-free software or anything, but before I actually do it by mistake, you all have my sincere apologies. Perhaps the Internet Archive (https://archive.org/) is a great alternative to YouTube. It has a lot of functionalities which let you change every information about your videos, including the file formats in which it will be made available, and even add the name of the author rather than the name of the uploader. The Internet Archive accepts videos, sounds, texts, and software (maybe). Best regards, ADFENO. Have a nice day.
Re: [Trisquel-users] proper/practical use of tor
A short question: if I activate the totem plugin in tor browser bundle this should be ok, shouldn't it? I mean how should a free-software video plugin compromise me? Or am I missing something? I'm not very familiar with tor. I would like to use tor browser bundle with greasemonkey and viewtube.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free software to create LogicWorks files
Thanks lembas! I did some research and found that LogicWorks takes VHDL (interoperable format, yay!) files with a .dwv extension. So I searched through the repositories and found Qucs which can export VHDL.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Simple guide to make happy a GNU user
Free means no proprietary stuff that could control you; You control your system. Since Debian is being thrown around as an example, well.. it has proprietary blobs in the kernel, it links to non-free software and even has non-free packages in their repositories. Could you elect to recompile the kernel and remove said proprietary blobs? Sure. Could you not install software that wasn't GNU? sure. Could you avoid proprietary drivers like the plague? yep. Problem is most end-users lack the knowledge to recompile the kernel, make system edits w/o totally crashing system, and I suppose they take the non-free advertisement as that's what makes the world go round. FSF sees things differently than most. I feel blessed a group of devs has made this product for us; It really is a lot of work [and if you don't believe me.. try Linux From Scratch sometime ;) ] Free is controlling your system, but nobody is controlling you from FSF heh. You want to go the way of the masses, go on. If you choose to view the world a bit differently and want to not be waylaid by something that was hidden inside a kernel blob one day.. well then give GNU software [and the FSF] a fair shake. Regards, Rob
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problem with File Browser
What has this to do with file browser problems? Nothing. It's not polite to hijack threads, instead you should start your own.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free software to create LogicWorks files
Glad to hear that! Stay free!
Re: [Trisquel-users] fritzbox dns server not working
According to Linux Bible the command search fritz.box in your resolve.conf file should achieve exactly what you want. Perhaps the second search entry in the file is replacing the first (you can have two domain names in one search command, separated by spaces).
