Gluglug has updated and SSD is now 60GB, no extra (dock, mouse...) and a
4cell battery instead of 8cell. This to make it cheaper.

[Trisquel-users] MediaGoblin campaign

2014-02-27 Thread gromobir
GNU MediaGoblin is a free software media publishing system for the web. It's
a freedom-respecting replacement for sites like Flickr, YouTube, SoundCloud,
and Thingiverse. We've come pretty far, but we need you to join our goblin
force and help us take back the net!

If you (leoleo11) want a recent linux-libre kernel (compiled from source,)
you can follow these
instructions:https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/compiling-gnu-linux-libre-kernel

The version of the kernel Linux from kernel.org isn't linux-libre. It
contains non-free firmware blobs.

[Trisquel-users] Say goodbye to NPAPI

2014-02-27 Thread Ivaylo Valkov
It might be a late discovery, but still. Chrome(ium?) will phaseout
NPAPI. [1] The part of the browser that loads external plugins to handle
unknown file types. Although Chrome is proprietary software it will set
the trend. Mozilla is also one step away from this, since last year's
click-to-run feature for plugins. [2]

What this means? The good thing – for certain Flash will be dead. The
bad thing? Websites will stop using plugins. Older versions of the HTML
specification will be unsupported (object tags requiring plugins, the
ugly embed). All the browser video plugins will stop working. Video and
audio in the browser window will be limited to the support internally in
the browser. Add a limited support of carefully selected video formats
and codecs to that in few proprietary browsers and you have the web
locked down.

For my project Linterna Mágica this means migration to HTML5 instead of
browser video plugins. So far I'm not pleased with the internal video
rendering of Abrowser (Firefox). Plugins are handling video better.

This is serious attack on choice by proprietary software even when you
don't use it.

What do you think?

I can read my links for you. I cannot understand the text for you.

It's open source. Far from free software. I even gave people a few free
software alternatives in case they want to support such a project. Investing
in Pitivi would be just another way to subsidize big corporations the same
way the school system buys from Microsoft with tax money.

What world are you living in? On Earth, this statement makes no sense
whatsoever.

Every single program you mentioned is *both* free/libre *and* open source.
All of them are under licenses approved by both the FSF and the OSI. The GNU
LGPL is an extension of the GNU GPL written by the Free Software Foundation,
described by its authors (the FSF) only as a free software license, and used
for certain GNU programs.

I'm beginning to think you're trolling.

Conspiracy? Nope. I just think that open formats should be preferred when
possible. OOXML was only standardized due to Microsoft lobbying and nothing
else. They have tainted the OOXML format by not being strict from the start.

How many office programs that you know of (besides Office 2013) that can
read, edit, and save to OOXML strict according to the ISO specification?

Chrome/Chromium will use the Pepper API for Flash and other plugins instead.
Even though its licensed under the New BSD license, Mozilla doesn't support
it. They may be forced to down the road depending on how things play out.

written there:

Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 Beta 1 users can now install a range of additional apps
from the Software Centre, including Weather, Maps and Photos apps. A GNOME
Classic session is also included by default, and can be selected from the
GNOME login screen.

This classic session may help Trisquel developers (Ruben, Jason, anybody

Since the Chrome topic is up again: if you don't like the appearance of
Firefox, there's a theme to make it look like Chrome, licensed under MPL 1.1.
Click here to download. Even if you're okay with the appearance of Firefox
this theme is super-cool.
