[Trisquel-users] XFCE 4.10
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/xfce In this (now locked) thread, BugRep kindly provided a script for fixing the error that obstructs installing XFCE 4.10. Unfortunately, the error remains, but the script no longer works for 6.0.1. Could someone provide me with an up-to-date workaround please?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Thanks for posting the announcement to the forums. I would've totally missed it on the front page as I never go there. Great news team Trisquel!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Linux Libre announced : GNU Linux-libre 3.14-gnu: “Freedom Pi”. What does it mean Freedom Pi” ?
The mathematical Pi, which is the 3.14...(up to infinite) number is reflecting the version numbering here. This is something comparable to the Ubuntu 10.10 The perfect 10 release.
Re: [Trisquel-users] LibrePlanet 2014 feedback survey
I wasn't personally there, so I cannot fill out the form, but I think that when I'm asking for higher quality video recordings (even if this means no livestream), I'm not alone here.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Trisquel release? On 1st April? What a coincidence...or not? Hopefully this isn't something like Rubén's past April joke.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Question on using AGPLv3 for JavaScript files on a web page
Yeah, even I remember those discussions though I was never involved. How come, t3g?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Question on using AGPLv3 for JavaScript files on a web page
Its a site I have been brainstorming for a while and really passionate about, so I want to make sure that a potential competitor doesn't take my JavaScript code and claim it as their own. I do want to make it under a free software license so visitors that have concerns can make it whitelisted in LibreJS or NoScript. Plus, I'm not that big and don't have a foundation or huge community to protect me, so it seemed like a smart option to make it copyleft.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
This is actually excellent timing as I got some money from a project and have thought about upgrading my PC and putting Trisquel 6 on it. Since I have a wireless dongle that uses the open-ath9k-htc firmware, I may just go with the netinstall and install the 3.11 kernel from the start.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Sorry to hear that. Looks like part of the answer is you're missing a whole lot of security patches. https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html Perhaps a backport of the newer orca is possible? I have no idea unfortunately.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Wireless laptop
Hi everyone, hi lembas. I complety forgot that I posted there, and got used to Ubuntu for working purpose. Still, I'd like to use Trisquel instead of the fraud that Ubuntu and its Amazon ad appears to be. So I retrieved the info you asked for, lembas (cf. screenshots). Few more elements : the icon on the rigth corner remains unconnected even if I manually configure a connection. About kernel : how to update it on another OS while running Ubuntu ? I couldn't the answer on the link you gave me. Thanks a lot for helping me (despite my terrible english)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
April Fools? I tried using 'dist-upgrade' and there is nothing available.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Security updates and support for VP9 video codec either by itself or with Opus in the WebM container: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/28.0/releasenotes/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
6.0.1 is just a more updated iso of 6.0 and uses the same repositories. It is not an actual major release. If you do sudo apt-get upgrade, you will effectively have 6.0.1.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wireless laptop
Hello labour. Looks like you have an intel wifi (centrino advanced-N 6235). I believe those are not supported because they require a firmware binary blob. So, if you want to use Trisquel and wireless, you're looking at getting a working wifi adapter, internal or external (USB). One option is to buy from Thinkpenguin, those are guaranteed to work and they donate part of their profits to Trisquel. There's a banner ad in the right hand side column -- I think your English is fine.
[Trisquel-users] Cannot Upload Photos to Kijiji
Hello. I sell a fair amount of stuff on Kijiji (Canadian site) but find I cannot upload pictures while posting an ad. I'm using Trisquel 6.01; it's a standard installation. I didn't tweak much or install anything fancy. Just wondering if anyone else encountered this issue and might have a solution or work around. Thanks for your time!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Trisquel 6.0.1 is just an iso of Trisquel 6.0 with more updated packages than the original iso. It will show up as 6.0 (maybe this is a bug, because Ubuntu shows up as 12.04.*) But you have nothing to update.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Whatever happened to...
This has very quickly become my favorite linux mag. I wasn't expecting much, but it's packed full of all kinds of articles and tutorials (which I like a lot).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Question on using AGPLv3 for JavaScript files on a web page
They can't claim it as their own even if you use a permissive license, because the copyright notices have to be retained. Of course, it's best to make it copyleft so other sites don't make it nonfree.
Re: [Trisquel-users] configuring email after installation
Are you using postfix? https://wiki.debian.org/Postfix
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Does the live CD run the 3.11 (Saucy) kernel by default? It would probably be the best to test since it is the most recent and people can test their newer hardware instantly.
[Trisquel-users] Trisquel on Acer C720
Hello. Has anyone tried Trisquel in an Acer C720 chromebook? I believe my fans arenot running at the speed that it is supposed to, therefore it shuts down. However I don't feel my laptop getting very hot either.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Wireless laptop
If I'm getting you correct, it means the wireless hardware initialized when I first boot on Windaube (Win-shit, in french), and kept working since then ? That would explain why green light is always on at the front slice of my laptop, next to the word Wireless... even when I turn it down in Ubuntu ? (I erased totally Windaube from my disk, but somewhere in BIOS, it's wrote down compatible with Windaube ?) Can't the BIOS be configurated to enable wireless with another driver than the binary blob you mentionned ? Thanks again
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
After doing this and checking my release number with lsb_release -a, I noticed that I am still apparently running 6.0. Also, a large number of packages (mostly perl libraries) were removed, but I did not see any other changes.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Hi alguien! Can you test in terminal grep 8.8.8.8 /etc/resolv.conf ? Because on this post You might be using a google name server by lembas tell some security issue. And it gaves me that 8.8.8.8... i will downlowad the updated version hoping that thing will not appear :P Thanks
Re: [Trisquel-users] Wireless laptop
Unfortunately, there is nothing the CMOS/BIOS can do to resolve the issue with your wireless adapter's firmware. If only it were that easy! Trisquel uses the linux-libre kernel, which only supports software and firmware whose code is open and not proprietary. Your wireless adapter uses firmware that the free software community cannot legally use or examine, without doing things like signing NDAs with the manufacturer or incorporating the firmware as it is, in its nonfree, closed state. In short, it would be against Trisquel's ethics to incorporate nonfree software or firmware. What you can do is replace your wireless card with one that is compatible. This is done either by opening up the case (do not, unless you know what you are doing) and replacing the card. Or, by plugging in a USB wifi adapter. ThinkPenguin sells such cards and USB adapters.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
Nope, it includes 3.2.0-60-generic: http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel-images/trisquel-mini_6.0.1_amd64.manifest. I was hoping for it to contain the saucy lts enablement stack. It significantly improved the graphics performance of my intel card.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 6.0.1 released
I know Ubuntu changes the version in lsb-release for maintenance releases. To do this, all that's needed is modifying base-files a little.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Wireless laptop
No, that's incorrect. The kernel loads the blobs at boot time. And the BIOS has nothing to do with drivers. You have to get a wireless pci card or usb adapter. ThinkPenguin has some of those.
Re: [Trisquel-users] LibrePlanet 2014 feedback survey
I'm not sure if you can fill it out, but if it lets you, I'd do it anyway. Put that in the comments so they know it's something to prioritize. It's all about prioritization. If people don't speak up they'll fall into the trap that nobody cares and it'll take even longer to get right.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel on Acer C720
Usually modern systems will shut down before they overheat so it's possible. Even if the hardware in your Acer is mostly free software friendly there may be support issues. Getting it just right is a bit tricky.
Re: [Trisquel-users] when Trisquel 7 will release ??
I'm a big advocate for sticking to the LTS releases. While it's been slow going Rubén should have more time to work on 7 then has for 6. Hopefully we'll see support, stability, and functionality return to what it was (and more) in the days of the 4-5.5 releases. What I feel was/is missing right now is ISO updates with newer kernels, backported xserver, and backported hplip mainly. Components needed for maintaining modern hardware support. There may also be a need of backporting other software like abrowser and libeoffice.
[Trisquel-users] Creepy: ARM and Flight MH370
Interesting news item... ...the people who owned the patent to Freescale Semiconductor’s ARM microcontroller ‘KL-03′ which is a new improvised version of an older microcontroller KL-02 were on the MH-370 flight. The 20 Freescale employees, among 239 people on flight MH370, were mostly engineers and other experts working to make the company’s chip facilities in Tianjin, China, and Kuala Lumpur more efficient, said Mitch Haws, vice president, global communications and investor relations. “These were people with a lot of experience and technical background and they were very important people,” Haws said. “It’s definitely a loss for the company.” http://macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/24972/56/ The LK-03 is likely the base processor to be used for the internet of things.
[Trisquel-users] Horizontal lines at the start of the computer until the login screen.
Hello ! My problem is in the title. Two things. These lines are ugly and prevent me from having the screen scroll information when I modifice grub. Thank you.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Horizontal lines at the start of the computer until the login screen.
Hello Caca! If it's what i think then it seems you have the same problem i had. Follow the guide of jxself's repository at https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/update-linux-libre-kernel . It solved my problem. I hope it solves yours. Best regards.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Horizontal lines at the start of the computer until the login screen.
So if I do this, the kernel is definitely still linux-libre and not just linux, correct?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Horizontal lines at the start of the computer until the login screen.
Yes that is rigth :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser privacy

[Trisquel-users] Has anyone heard about Lightbeam?
it is here https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/lightbeam/ On trisquel we have something like this one? To See who’s tracking you online? Thanks in advance
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has anyone heard about Lightbeam?
I used it with firefox in my ubuntu days, before I went fully free. The program itself doesn't really have a place in the fsc because it tracks you to map out who is tracking you. Complex little web maps they make of advertising agencies usually with google and facebook as main focal points. Interesting yet overall I found it useless because it wasn't telling me anything I didn't already know. They essentially state on their website that they are trying to track who's tracking you and ask for you to donate your history to them so they can use your data to construct more complex maps for their own use, which I'm not really cool with. So to answer your question I have heard of it, I have used it, I overall would not recommend it and no I do not know of an equivalent program that works with abroswer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel on ARM (2)
I think it is worth to target Improv. I recently ported linux-libre for the sunxi platform and added support for my TPE-N150USB. Currently I have to used Debian as Trisquel is not avialable yet.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Nonfree software packaged with musical usb devices
Maybe gitorious.org which is used by GNU MediaGoblin too.

Soundcloud requires nonfree obfuscated javascript. I recommend https://github.com/lukapusic/soundcloud-dl/

Adding Orca to the pile, per Dave.
