[Trisquel-users] Antwort: Trisquel 7 official release?

2014-08-15 Thread andreakoeth

hi Legimet,

OK, I understand. But one question: if Fedora only uses free software and no
proprietary software, why do these devices run in Fedora then?? What do they
do differently than other distributions?

Greetings
Letizia

hi quiliro@congres..

They run in these distributions:

Ubuntu, LinuxMint, Ubuntu DesktopPack, Fedora, Xubuntu, Kubuntu

So I hope, that there will be a possibility to get them work in Trisquel.
Because in my current Installation of Ubuntu DesktopPack.

Love Greetings

Don't throw away evolution too far.
Mozilla is going downhill fast and so are their products.
Maybe we'll be lucky having an alternative at hand someday.

Fedora is generally pretty good about free software, but they make an
exception for drivers to ensure that their product works on all hardware.

I've already checked that before, but was unable to see any source code
inside the archive. The file was since then updated, containing a new Windows
binary executable, the source code, which is provided by the "unit1.pas" file
(it seems that I overlooked this), and the noted RoseCrypt.res file's now
gone.

A very good discovery indeed. Finally, I'm pleased to see a manufacturer
selling these adapters at a reasonable price. While there are better choices
regarding the WiFi, in some special cases when there's no way to replace the
internal card, a small external adapter might come in handy. If you can do,
please add your device to the ever-growing WikiDevi database.

What AES mode does it use? Why would one use it instead of a more
common program using a more popular encryption library?

I finally managed to find a solution for this issue. Writing the following in

Firmware. They make an exception for firmware. Firmware and drivers aren't
the same thing.

Fedora is only a completely libre system if you add Freed-ora, which is an
unofficial package provided by the Linux-libre developers that conflicts with
Fedora's non-libre firmware packages.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 official release?

2014-08-15 Thread onpon4
As mentioned, your card depends on proprietary firmware, and this will not be
included in Trisquel (that would undermine the whole point of Trisquel's
existence). The solution is either to do without wireless, or get a new
wireless card or USB wireless adapter that works with libre software. An easy
place to shop for libre software friendly hardware is Think Penguin:

https://libre.thinkpenguin.com

Alternatively, you can get the same "mini" adapter that Think Penguin sells
from here:

[Trisquel-users] Update Manager Not Working

2014-08-15 Thread sv . tony
I haven't had any updates being installed for a while. Last time when the
Update Manager popped up, it never finished downloading anything and appeared
to be stuck. As I couldn't stop it or even close it, I had to re-start the
system. I thought this was a one-off problem but it's happened again today.

It says "51 updates have been selected. 27.7 MB will be downloaded" but all
the options are greyed out and I can't do anything. I waited for more than an
hour in case it was slow but it hasn't worked. The cursor just keeps
spinning.

It is obviously not installing any updates. Any help, please?

Show us the output of this command (to be executed in a terminal), which
actually is what the "Update Manager" runs:

$ sudo apt-get upgrade

I believe you have broken dependencies that you could try to fix with:
$ sudo apt-get -f install

On the console:
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade
Make sure there are not any other instances of the updater or installer
working.

Those are nonfree distributions. They are installing software that does
not respect your freedom. If you want to help make free firmware/drivers
for you card, there are several ways to do so:
- offer to pay someone to try to reverse engineer
- crowdsource to pay for the above
- offer to chip in for the above
- reverse engineer yourself
The alternative to the above is to buy another card (usb or internal) or
to let the maker of the card violate your rights and of the whole
community though you and and us if we also accept his unfair conditions.
Please try to avoid this unfairness.

[Trisquel-users] Stopping the gui updater?

2014-08-15 Thread D. A. H.

Hi,

I prefer to use the commandline tools for maintaining my system, so, I
went into the settings for the gui updater, and set the frequency to
'never'. It still comes up every day, and I dismiss it. Furthermore,
it wants to upgrade packages that show as held back in the commandline
apt tools. Should I file an issue, or is this how things are supposed
to work?

Cheers,

Dave H.

"- reverse engineer yourself"

Please stop giving absurd advices. Obviously, the person who asked the
question is not technically skilled enough to do so (and I think only a very
tiny fraction of humankind is).
It's like "There is no flight available for your destination? How about
building your own plane?"

People might get the impression that you're making fun of them.

[Trisquel-users] Connecting to wifi network

2014-08-15 Thread hugh . mayfield

Hi folks,

This is probably a bone question - sorry, if so.

I have installed Trisquel 6.0.1 freshly and would like to connect to my wifi
network. When I try to enter the wifi password, I input all the characters
but "Connect" remains greyed out.

I have tried going into "edit connection" and trying various types of wifi
security, none of which work.

Any ideas, please?

Regards,

Hugh

Install client software Dianara or Pumpa from repositories (I like Dianara).

Go to identi.ca and click on Try it!

Complete user and password and enter to your new account. Don't close firefox

Execute your client and add the account user@server and click

Go back to firefox and copy the verification code and paste it in the
verification box on your client

Save the changes and thats all.
