[Trisquel-users] Re : Can't get 24-hour time in panel
Because I am using GNOME Shell, the following may not work: In the Top bar section of the Tweak tool (in System settings), you can choose whether the date is displayed; In Date time (in System settings), a radio button allows to choose between 24 hours or AM/PM; In the second tab of Language support (in System settings), you can choose to display the date in the usual format for français (France) (for instance).
[Trisquel-users] Re : Reset Monitor Settings
Can you access a terminal by typing Ctrl+Alt+F1? If so, the problem is indeed related to the X server. You can log in the terminal and take a look at the Xorg's logs and spot the problem: $ less /var/log/Xorg.0.log If a X has a configuration file, you can remove it: $ sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg/conf
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 will be released next week.
Is there the same offer if I choose Trisquel 6.0 ? What if I buy several laptops ? fixed 50$ or 50$ a laptop ? Still possible to come to London and pay cash ?
[Trisquel-users] Antwort: Reset Monitor Settings
Yes, I can go to the terminal an login. If I take a look on Xorg.0.log, I don't understand one word. Can you help me, how I have to read this or say me what you see in the file? I make a attachment of it. I don't have a diretcory /etc/X11/xorg/ But I tryed with removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.vesa, but nothing changed :-( hmm Would be nice, if You can help me, thanks
Re: [Trisquel-users] Reset Monitor Settings
Would running xrandr with the help of https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xrandr or http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=articleitem=927num=2 help?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Reset Monitor Settings
Maybe you accidentally hit the key to switch monitor output to external monitor?
[Trisquel-users] Antwort: Reset Monitor Settings
Yes... the xrandr was helpfull! I opened blind a Terminal (with Ctrl+Alt+T) and tipped xrandr --auto Then I saved the Monitor Settings with the GUI, because: Changes you make using xrandr will only last through the current session Thats all Thanks to all for help!!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't get 24-hour time in panel
Top bar: Both boxes are checked, and have no effect. Date time: The radio button only effects that window, not the panel. Language support: There's only one option: English. And unless there's some language that would set the number/date/currency format to sensible defaults instead of tying it down to a language, I don't see how this setting would be useful.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Switch User menu item missing
It is also missing in gnome-shell
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't get 24-hour time in panel
The date you are seeing on the panel is from the indicator plugin Add the date or clock applet separately.
Re: [Trisquel-users] desktop freezes when trying to use compiz in Trisquel 7
doing $ compiz --replace replaces the metacity window manager but might not stop the compton compositor that might be causing that.
Re: [Trisquel-users] desktop freezes when trying to use compiz in Trisquel 7
Thank Sachin :) Do you have any idea of what could be done to fix it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] desktop freezes when trying to use compiz in Trisquel 7
there's /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-flashback.session copy it, rename the new file to gnome-compiz.session, edit this file, replace metacity with compiz. also copy and rename the /usr/share/xsessions/trisquel-desktop.session edit it and replace Exec=gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback with Exec=gnome-session --session=gnome-compiz
[Trisquel-users] Re : Can't get 24-hour time in panel
I use français (France) in the second tab of Language support and the time is 24 hours on my system. I do not know if it is really this setting that has an influence though.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Arduino Free software friendly?
What about the add-ons? Like wifi? I'm pretty sure the codes not been released, but I'd love someone to tell me otherwise.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm thinking of installing replacing my Trisquel systems with Debian for the sake ofo wifi because I really need it right now.
Spot on.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ath9k not free?
Thanks for the correction/info. Interesting interpretation of events/read. You might be right. That's not what I recall being told by one of the developers and not having read the policies personally... could be wrong From a quick skim and what I recall it seems like there is/was some confusion about how things should be done and the policies in relation to the packaging of free firmware within Debian. Or maybe these policies have changed. It's been a while since I talked to anybody about this.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm thinking of installing replacing my Trisquel systems with Debian for the sake ofo wifi because I really need it right now.
Just a repost: if you actually wanted Debian 6 try GnewSense.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ath9k not free?
I think the newest version of Debian is somewhat equal with Ubuntu precise (at least looking at the GNOME version)
Re: [Trisquel-users] desktop freezes when trying to use compiz in Trisquel 7
And you'd have to remove Compton as well (if it's there - I don't know since my installations all originated from debootstrap), maybe try removing compton?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Switch User menu item missing
you are right. and the lock screen has gone awesome.
Re: [Trisquel-users] IceDove replaced Thunderbird.
You can take it from Debian's repos http://mozilla.debian.net/ (The one for Squeeze (oldstable), Icedove version ESR works prefectly - not sure about the one for Wheezy.
[Trisquel-users] compiz 3d windows not working :(
I just wanted to point out that compiz 3d windows is not working on Trsiquel 7 :( There is a bug on the upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1024208 Does it makes a different if we report as users that we are having the problem too? I already did.
[Trisquel-users] Goodbye Trisquel
Hi, I left Trisquel. I had been constantly using Trisquel since version 5.0 as my primary operating system but now I feel that it is not my type. My conclusion was that users have no power and everything is done in background. Linux and GNU have thought me that we should *develop together* not *use together*. Anyway, I respect the governance of this distro, but abandoning it is the best option for me. Now I am enjoying Debian more than ever.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Goodbye Trisquel
Debian? so what's the diference? Debian isn't edorsed by FSF yes. But i find more easy to use Triquel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Arduino Free software friendly?
When I was looking for the eVY1 Shield[1], I noticed it has an EULA. The shield is based on proprietery technologies where Yamaha holds software patents. But there are other addons that one can use in freedom. One example is the FSF endorsed RAMBo[2] circuit board. An you can design your own Arduino Shield with Fritzing, which is free software. There is a service called Fritzing Fab which produces professional PCBs out of ones Fritzing designs [3]. Re: [Trisquel-users] compiz 3d windows not working :(
The Compiz in T7 is a binary copy of the Ubuntu package and isn't on the T7 install DVD, so upstream is in fact where you should report the bug. Further AIUI adding your name to a bug on Launchpad improves its chances of getting attention from Ubuntu - so it's worth doing. Leny
[Trisquel-users] What happened to FFMPEG?
FFMPEG was in the repos when I was using Trisquel 6, but I can't find it in the Belenos repository. What happened to it? I have some video conversion bash scripts that depend on FFMPEG, so I'd rather not have to use another video convertor.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Opening usb memory when plug not working on trisquel 7
You have to click it on nautilus side bar so that it gets mounted and the content is shown.
[Trisquel-users] fontconfig folder in home folder - safe to delete?
Upgrading from 6.01 to 7.0 resulted in having the folder: fontconfig within my home folder on two different machines. The contents (***.cache-3 files) haven't changed since the day of installation. What is the purpose of the folder? Is it safe to delete? Thanks!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Arduino Free software friendly?
Looks like it's blobby Chris https://github.com/arduino/wifishield/tree/master/firmware/binary As you will know only too well yourself, hardware manufacturers are swines for keeping stuff to themselves - so any and all addons to an Arduino have to be treated as strictly caveat emptor (buyer beware).
Re: [Trisquel-users] What happened to FFMPEG?
Install libav-tools, use avconv instead of ffmpeg the program. Some time ago ffmpeg was forked into libav and ffmpeg, some distros choose one, another or both, Debian-based distros have libav. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] Opening usb memory when plug not working on trisquel 7
I should have used the words automount or auto open in the title so that it was easier to find. Oh well, hope it helps some one out there.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Arduino Free software friendly?
It occurs to me you might be interested in alternative hardware platforms. In which case I suggest you start with the FSF Single Board computers page[1]. However, while they often have GPIO etc pins and some extension boards (caveat emptor) making a fully free embedded GNU/Linux system out of one of these is not a job for beginners. https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers
Re: [Trisquel-users] What happened to FFMPEG?
The package libav-tools is already installed on my system. How do I invoke it from the command line? (Entering the command libav doesn't work.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Goodbye Trisquel
Thank you for at least telling us. If you read the relevant part of wikipedia [1] you'll see this is intended to be a friendly statement. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exit,_Voice,_and_Loyalty
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't get 24-hour time in panel
If you are using Trisquel mini or LXpanel then simply right click on the clock then click digital clock settings. for 24 our format with date in International/Military format, should be: Clock Format: %R Tooltip Format: %d%b%Y(%a) This will give you a 24 hour time format with the date listed as: DayMonthYear(day of the week), example 19Nov2014(Wed). Hope that helps1
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 will be released next week.
It's a coupon for $50 *discount* on a computer loaded with Trisquel 7, not the whole computer for $50.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What happened to FFMPEG?
Use dpkg-query -L libav-tools if you are unsure what files a package provides. avconv is the program that does what ffmpeg did; avprobe and avplay replace other programs. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Arduino Free software friendly?
Just go up one directory and you'll see two directories with source.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Advice Please: Trisquel Suddenly Booting To Blank Blue Screen.
Thanks to all who helped. I ended up just reinstalling, and updating. No problems now. - Zem
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 will be released next week.
I just upgraded and Trisquel 7 looks lovely. It may be slightly slower(?) on my old, Inspiron 1520, than 6.0, but just a little. We shall see how it performs in the days to come. Many thanks for all the hard work. - Zem
[Trisquel-users] compiz's burning windows animation is gone :'(
So I just fount out that compiz's burning windows animation is gone :'( Installing compiz-plugins-extra doesn't work anymore. I'm so sad. I wonder if contributing to the project may help, I heard that it is being abandon for quite some time, I just didn't know. Does anybody could tell me your opinion? Is there still some hope for compiz or should I let it die? I would abandon compiz, but at least it has the wobbly windows and the cube desktop. I just don't understand why was this project left to die by the users :'( myself, I just didn't know until now.
Re: [Trisquel-users] compiz's burning windows animation is gone :'(
Also if someone has an article of why and when did this started I loved to read it. Thank you.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ath9k not free?
12.04 isn't that old... in my mind. However I don't really recall exactly what version we were at when the newer firmware was needed.
[Trisquel-users] gimp's single-window mode (just sharing)
Hi everyone: I just wanted to share how awesome is gimp's single-window mode on trsiquel 7. The first thing that caught my attention on the slide show while trisquel was being installed was a screen shot of it. It wasn't so important to me as I got use to the old interface but I'm sure it feels awesome for so many people out there :) How come I never found about this things xD is there any free software bulletin I should know about? Most of the time being in the forum helps a lot :) Thank you all.
Re: [Trisquel-users] gimp's single-window mode (just sharing)
yeaa dude - gimp is da bomb!! :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] gimp's single-window mode (just sharing)
other magnificent applications are (my favs) - xbmc, popcorn-time, jitsi, goldendict, minitube.. and many many others. viva free software!!
[Trisquel-users] Re : fontconfig folder in home folder - safe to delete?
I deleted that folder just after the upgrade (2.5 weeks ago). No problem.
[Trisquel-users] Touchpad
Hello, I've just installed Trisquel on a late 2007 MacBook with relative ease except that my touchpad isn't functioning fully. I've tried installing drivers/modules from the synaptic package manager but I'm not entirely sure how it works or if there is even a better driver for my touchpad? I also have a Apple magic mouse laying around that I would like to use if I could but I suspect that you most definitely need proprietary drivers? Currently, my touchpad only works when I press my finger down flat (maybe I need chubbier fingers?) and I can't scroll too comfortably without it skipping back in the other direction. Sorry, I'm completely new to gnu/linux. Thanks.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What happened to FFMPEG?
I found avconv, thanks!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upgrade to Trisquel 7.0 :-(
I've looked in my 6.0 and the radeon is actually blacklisted ( I am not sure what it means, does it mean that the driver is disabled ?) Below is the result of the command you gave me : /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf:blacklist radeonfb /etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf:blacklist radeon I need to check the result of the same command when running the live CD of 7.0 (I didn't install it yet, just tried it through the LiveCD, does it matter for this problem ?) Thanks for your help.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't upgrade to Trisquel 7.0 :-(
Actually, I just ran the command on 7.0 (Live CD) and below are the results : /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf:blacklist radeonfb /etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf:blacklist radeon /etc/modprobe.d/fbdev-blacklist.conf:blacklist radeonfb It looks like the first line was not in the results when I ran the command in 6.0
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't get 24-hour time in panel
Thank you! The Clock applet seems to be what I remember from Trisquel 6. By any chance, is there a way to get rid of the other clock without losing all of Indicator Applet?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Touchpad
Hi there! Just try plugging in the mouse and see what happens. Regarding the touchpad, have you checked out the configuration options in system settings? There is also a user unfriendly but much more encompassing way to fiddle with the various parameters. This involves opening 2 terminal windows. In one of them read the manual page for the driverman synaptics In the other first make backup of your old settingssynclient ~/original-touchpad-settings (The tilde (~) means your home folder, i.e. /home/YOURUSERNAME/) Then input synclient This will list the value of some variables. You can find out what they mean from the other window. You can then change the values withsynclient variable=new value If things go wonky, you can always check the file ~/original-touchpad-settings for the original values.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Switch User menu item missing
It doesn't seem like this is a mistake. According to the developer commits, Rubén took it out in August. I'd just like to know if it will mess anything up down the road to put it back.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Switch User menu item missing
Where can you see the developer commits? Also, does he say why he took it out?
