Re: [Trisquel-users] are there free software cameras with batteries?
A camera, that has only free software. Again it seems not possible to get one. In generel about hardware I should write, device that only uses free software. If that is not available, a software friendly device. I do not want to obtain hardware, before I have asked on this forum what are the options.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel in Asus 1015E
Hé fabio, * bs=8M tells dd to read/write in 8 megabyte chunks for better performance; (the default is 512 bytes, which will be much slower) * The sync is to make sure that all the writes are flushed out before the command returns.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Apt-get upgrade runs amuck in Trisquel thumb drive
Didn't you ask for the support of some languages in Language support (in System settings)?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Test and install Trisquel on any laptops without operating system
google are a very bad company who make all there money by collecting all the data they possibly can about you if you are going to use a search engine try these: www.duckduckgo.com/html www.startpage.com www.ixquick.com
Re: [Trisquel-users] Apt-get upgrade runs amuck in Trisquel thumb drive
Magic Banana inquired: Didn't you ask for the support of some languages in Language support (in System settings)? Nope ... but I did choose us-en way back at the beginning. The rest was the upgrade manager's work. At first I thought this was my fault for shoehorning that fat32 Data partition into the 8GB USB flashdrive, but today's revelation was on an unencumbered 8GB USB flashdrive - a second one, which is now coming apart at the seams from too many in's and out's in the USB port. The 8GB are now about 3/4's full, once I took out the extra language support. The Trisquel mini iso didn't do this - probably no language support beyond the minimum ...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Test and install Trisquel on any laptops without operating system
I personally would rank them in the following order: (1) www.ixquick.com - dutch based servers (so cannot be compelled to hand over data by a US court, fetches results from several search engines except google) (2) www.startpage.com (same philosophy as ixquick (as they are same company), except US based servers (and so could be compelled to hand over data by a US court order) and fetches results from google (3) www.duckduckgo.com/html - similar philosphy to Ixquick but as with startpage has US based servers and so too could be compelled to hand over data.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Test and install Trisquel on any laptops without operating system
i was not ranking them in order and i use ixquick but thanks for the info
[Trisquel-users] offline encrypted address book
Hello everybody, even though I am not a trisquel user (I use Debian) I really appreciate your work and like this forum. That's the reason why I ask my question here. May sound like stupid to some of you, but only now after years of being aware of the internet control I decided to get rid of all the awful stuff in my virtual life (gmail? Yes, I have it. Facebook? Too.). It is a slow process and I would like your support for one problem. Once I'll shut down all my accounts and stuff I will find myself with the necessity of keeping the contact details of many of the people I know. So, where to put it? My first idea was to just use a spreadsheet, but it not really efficient (cant do things like sort by name, or display contact with phone number only, sort by country etc.) and I should encrypt it to make it a but safer. I also thought of writing one down myself but I'm not really confident with encryption, so I can also come up with a functioning python program but I would not be sure of how to protect it. Is there any free program to do that? GUI does not matter. Thank you very much for reading my post and, eventually, for helping me out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Laptop screen goes black
Try a Google search on: dmesg after abrupt shutdown trisquel without the quotes.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Apt-get upgrade runs amuck in Trisquel thumb drive
Dodged: I used Gparted again, reformatting the half of the flashdrive that had the standard Trisquel on it and then using the Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.5.8.exe to install the Trisquel Mini iso instead. After installation, I could run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade without incident. There were lots of files to download and install, but the upgrade process did not try to fill up the available space; it stuck to its promise to download ca. 400MB and then use ca. 40MB more space. That's in stark contrast to my experience described at the beginning of this thread. Why ?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't boot NetInstall
Make sure you've adjusted the BIOS to enable booting from a USBdisk; even if the installer makes the USB flashdrive bootable, in my experience it helps to mention something to the BIOS also.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't boot NetInstall
When I go into the boot settings is have UEFI enabled and I have just the USB drive as a boot option. Then it throws me on every boot back into the settings page.

More options: - osmo http://clayo.org/osmo/ - GNOME Contacts https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Contacts Keeping my agenda in local and not in a remote server is what made me use an email client some years ago.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboinc: A totally free Boinc, only for free projects
It seems, that Boinc is downloading the list from the Boinc-server. We(better FSF) should set up a own projectlist, so that I/we just have to change the location from where it loads the list.
[Trisquel-users] Tablets that can run GNU/Linux
According to https://trisquel.info/es/forum/trisquel-tablet , the Dell Latitude ST can nicely run Trisquel. Since that is a Windows 7 tablet, and since all those bootup software mess sort of didn't start until around the time Windows 8 was launched (if I remember correctly), does that mean that there was a generation of Intel Atom Windows 7 Tablets which made use of the 'power efficient' Intel Atom and yet supports having their OS' changed, perhaps replaced with GNU/Linux? If there is, how good is the battery life? Is it as good as the Android tablets that most people use?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboinc: A totally free Boinc, only for free projects
Maybe I should just make it a patch, the differences seems rather static and so I wouldn´t need to keep it up to date.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tablets that can run GNU/Linux
Or have I gotten it all wrong and there are new, Windows 8, x86 tablets that actually do run GNU/Linux?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Test and install Trisquel on any laptops without operating system
Sorry for a late reply of them while busy working, and I have my Lexar 16GB USB after I burned a Trisquel ISO image with Rufus on *indows since several days ago.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Test and install Trisquel on any laptops without operating system
I know you're right about your skills easily, but not even the Secure Boot is impossible to circumvent.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Can't boot NetInstall
Did you ever manage to boot any live USB key from this computer?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Apt-get upgrade runs amuck in Trisquel thumb drive
Solved ... sort of. Google rescued me with a search on removing language help packages ... leading to the term, extensions. Those are what have to be removed - both help packages and language packages - with Synaptic Package Manager, which permitted me to mark umpteen such extensions for removal, although Synaptic Package Manager calls them packages and did not complain while removing nearly 1GB of opportunities for writers of every language known to gnu/linux/trisquel to use my lowly laptop. Why these were gratuitously added in the first place is a mystery, as Synaptic Package Manager lists nearly as many more such packages that it had not installed, perhaps 'cuz it saw the end of available space in sight. Their sizes were not accounted for in the ca. 400MB originally downloaded, probably because sudo apt-get upgrade probably triggers a call to unzip and install everything that's in the trisquel iso image. To me that's a bug, as it scuttles any attempt to try out a LiveUSB flashdrive, unless that flashdrive has about 8GB of available storage. It adds a couple of hours to the upgrade process, and that becomes necessary if one wants to try out a package such as icedove, which demands that the update/upgrade be executed before installing it. This didn't happen when I started to use Trisquel in early January.
[Trisquel-users] Re : offline encrypted address book
Any email client (Evolution for instance) can manage your contacts. If you want flexibility, just use a text file and learn the POSIX text processing commands ('sort', 'awk', etc.).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel in Asus 1015E
I will start by saying that I have no idea of why it's not working :-D but I have an Asus 1015cx with Trisquel and it worked out of the box... the only difference I see is that I probably used just sudo dd if=/path/to/image.iso of=/dev/sdX instead of sudo dd if=/path/to/image.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=8M (or maybe bs=4096 or bs=512, I don't remember, not 8M for sure)... maybe you could give it a try...
