Re: [Trisquel-users] Neither Enigmail or GPA allow to use a password manager.
I understand. Is just that in my work's computer with ubuntu 15.10 I was able to use the password manager. I was hoping it had something to do with the version. But now I think is a bug of ubuntu 15.10 instead.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Neither Enigmail or GPA allow to use a password manager.
You can't copy and paste for security reasons. Think about it: every program can access the clipboard, so could steal the private key and export it. I have a password generated via the Diceware method: http://world.std.com/~reinhold/diceware.html This is secure and easy to remember, if you make up a story based on the words. If you used a password manager and the program went really wrong or your computer caught fire, or the HDD lost its will to live, it would mean the end of the key.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing Docker on Trisquel
Thanks for this, I will try it today. Thanks also to MagicBanana for the clarification about the other "Docker", and advice about using the Docker PPA. In theory, any piece of free code software should run on any GNU/Linux distro. But when one is learning a new piece of software, particularly one designed for server use, the instructions are often quite distro-specific. I was going to install Debian for testing Docker, but my friend who is encouraging me to learn it reckoned it would be worth trying to install it on my existing Trisquel instance, and the assurance by JXSelf that Trisquel is suitable for server use convinced me to give it a try. I'll report back on how it goes.
[Trisquel-users] Neither Enigmail or GPA allow to use a password manager.
So I just installed Enigmail on IceDove and created a Private and Public key. The problem is that neither Enigmail not GPA allow me to use a password manager. I can't copy and paste the password either. This means I have to type the password every time, but I would like to use a secure password, with random numbers, simbols and letters. And frankly typing it every time is gonna be a pain. So does anyone know what can I do? The password is asked by Pinentry in both Enigmail and GPA: https://www.gnupg.org/related_software/pinentry/index.en.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing Docker on Trisquel
Yup, Trisquel 8 will have a more recent version that is pretty capable: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/docker.io
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing Docker on Trisquel
docker in Trisquel repo you can install it apt-get install docker.io

Re: [Trisquel-users] Two users on two different WLAN by default. How?
Loldier: Unfortunately i cannot use two NICs at the moment Cannot hide SSID broadcast(future guests gonna need access). Mangy Dog: Don't need to lock a network-manager/Wicd... I just need to point one SSID to the Admin account "Only". Kinda profiling a "Me only" access to that SSID. In this way when i switch from Admin to User that "Profile" is not saved automatically(so no Wifi connection)and the user can choose the second Wifi SSID.

It offers full rollbacks and exporting your particular configuration can be used to bootstrap an entire system (GuixSD can use this to great effect, although I have never actually managed to get it to install properly).

Re: [Trisquel-users] Two users on two different WLAN by default. How?
I think you can set privileges to the wifi connection in Network Manager, just like Magic B. said. The guest won't even see the other router.
Re: [Trisquel-users] CDE -- Common Desktop Environment
Applications are usually iconized/minimized on the desktop but there's a box that can be toggled on -- Icons Window. This box can be iconized itself and every workplace (1--4) can have a different box with different software running. I like this feature. I think KDE has something similar on the desktop -- a transparent window that can contain launchers and widgets and folders.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Two users on two different WLAN by default. How?
okay i'm gonna try to explain it again: There are two wireless access points: 1 Tplink Wifi 2 Netgear Wifi Let's assume that Magic Banana and Loldier share one laptop. Magic Banana has root privileges. When Magic Banana logs in, he connects to the Tplink Wifi and sometimes to the Netgear Wifi. GOAL:When Loldier it automatically logs in he must be forced to connect to the Netgear Wifi only. The problem is that when Magic Banana is connected to the Tplink Wifi and logs off when Loldier logs in he's automatically connected to the Tplink Wifi(because of Magic Banana)

[Trisquel-users] Re : Installing Docker on Trisquel
The "docker" package in Trisquel's repository is not what you want: $ apt-cache show docker (...) Description-en: System tray for KDE3/GNOME2 docklet applications Docker is a docking application (WindowMaker dock app) which acts as a system tray for any desktop environment, allowing you to have a system tray without running the KDE/GNOME panel Docker was designed to work with Openbox 2, but it should work fine in any window manager. (...) I have never heard of any freedom issues pertaining to Docker. I believe Docker's developers can be trusted. They are administrating the PPA (your first link). There is no additional third party you would have to trust if you decide to use the PPA. That said, it is possible (but not likely, imho) that Docker's developers do not use the published source code to build the .deb package but a version with, maybe, malware. If you fear that, build from source.

Sure, I could do that. You'd have to accept the risk of the cash being lost in transit, though, and it would have to be USD. Bitcoin would probably be a better option.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Need a reliable VoIP soulution with video.
There are some good options posted above. I have also tried Jitsi a while back, with account at Ostel, and it worked well, but the setup was a bit complex. Ostel website for a free SIP account: https://ostel.co/ I second Jitsi Meet for a simple solution. It runs in a browser, works well and is easy to use. I found it to work better than Firefox Hello, too. I only tried the live web instance, but I believe you can use it on your own server, too. You need to make a link and share it to start a conversation, which may or may not be feasible for you. I think it may be the best solution for now, though. Website: https://meet.jit.si/ I think the true replacement for Skype and similar programs will come from the secure and decentralized alternatives, prime examples of which are Tox and Ring. They are both similar, but neither is complete and ready for mass adoption. There are people who use them without many problems, though. Tox is probably more advanced feature-wise. When I used it, it usually worked well, and I liked the UI. What I had my doubts about was the approach of the developers/maintainers towards the project, which seemed quite chaotic. The organization also went through some internal problems, but hopefully those are resolved by now. Tox consists of a core that many clients have been built around by many people. Most of them seem dead now, but the two that kept around are uTox and qTox. Website: https://tox.chat/ Ring is still lacking some features compared to Tox, but the development is led by a company who already has experience with VoIP software development. They seem to take a more serious approach to the development, and have more concrete plans for some of their work. There is an offical client for GNOME and unofficial for KDE, but of course they may be used in any environment. Website: https://ring.cx/ Both Tox and Ring use a long string of characters you need to give the other person to add them/call them. You only need to do that once, but there are efforts to simplify it. Someone people made websites where one may register to assign a name to their Tox addresses. There's been talk about integrating some of those websites into a client, but I don't know how that ended. Ring is now working on implementing searchable profiles directly on their decentralized network, so the feature is expected to come in close future.
Re: [Trisquel-users] CDE -- Common Desktop Environment
I think if it was as simple as packaging they would've done it. Maybe maintenance is an issue.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New ReTux Release and a Level Making Competition
Pay by cash?
[Trisquel-users] Re : CDE -- Common Desktop Environment
It seems to be made up of several separate programs so each would need to be packaged individually. Quick and dirty Debian packaging is actually reasonably simple. You make a file with information about the package, and you put the compiled files in folders corresponding to where they should be installed on the system.

Re: [Trisquel-users] CDE -- Common Desktop Environment
I did it step by step as detailed in the instructions. I didn't try anything else. If you succeed, it would be far easier to do a reinstall.
[Trisquel-users] Re : CDE -- Common Desktop Environment
Did you build it and then use make checkinstall? This supposedly produces a .deb archive. I will try.

[Trisquel-users] Sponsoring/mentoring new contributors to package-helpers
It seems to be a good idea to implement a Debian-like procedure for sponsoring/mentoring new code contributors to package-helpers or other Trisquel repositories. Debian procedure is very formal and tedious but we can implement, at least, the mentors part (https://mentors.debian.net/). I can volunteer for mentoring new contributors to package-helpers repository. I would like you to share your ideas.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Making chocolate-doom free = removing recommended packages?
> Since this is free software and GPLv2, wouldn't removing the those recommendations/suggestions make it free software and can be considered to be added to Trisquel? *recommendations/suggestions* of non-free or contrib packages (packages B, C, and D) won't exclude a package (package A) from Trisquel repositories. Practically speaking, packages B, C, and D won't be installed because they are not in Trisquel repositories. > Like a package helper that takes the source, recompiles it, and creates the .deb file without the recommendations/suggestions to those chocolate packages. I'm curious if that would be accepted if it was that easy to modify the .deb file. That is the basic functionality of a package-helper which are in use at Trisquel (https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/package-helpers). It is easy.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Petition for Intel to Release an ME-less CPU design
In my country(México), the law used to require that all the software were FREE (as in free of speech). There was this record were all the software needed to be. And anyone could check it. And make copies. But then México, USA and Canda signed the NAFTA and things changed. Lately i've been thinking about that law a lot. The Federal Judges of my country are doing a lot of modern things, specially the Supreme Court, and there could be a small chance (I know a really tiny) that they ruled that this record is obligatory again. Making free software obligatory in México. I just need to buy hardware ask for a recipe and then sue the company that makes the hardware. The only 2 things that keeps me from doing this are: 1.- I need to study more. 2.- I need to find the right company, I can't sue Intel, they are way to big, it has to be a small one. The way law works in México if that lawsuit is won then you can sue anyone else and win. I think that there is a small chance because Free Software is already in the law. But NAFTA is against it.
