Let us just say I agree, digital restrictions are my biggest gripe though,

though even proprietary software without those restrictions should have a
very short life given that they become obsolete in less than 5-10 years.

But moreover copyright is becoming like Donald trump. You may think its
harmless at first, but once it is a part of

the law, you will think otherwise,

The corporate world probably would be up in arms against the first three
lines that i wrote but they are like tombstones that are painted fresh.

On the outside they look better, but on the inside, same old, same old...

yep... As I always say though, Digital Restrictions Management is the biggest
menace of proprietary software.

still software licenses lasting 70 years? what idiot was on crack when they
thought that up...

Because they are proprietary lab rats.

Re: [Trisquel-users] im new on linux, hi -- trisquel x ubuntu

2016-09-12 Thread Adonay Felipe Nogueira
Welcome! :D

I'm also from Brazil, and speak Brazilian Portuguese, of course.

I've been using Trisquel for about two or three years. And I'm staying
with it mainly because Trisquel **is** some thing that Ubuntu isn't:
free/libre as in freedom, not price.

I started studying the free/libre software movement, its philosophy, and
**true** goals since 2011. Since the end of 2015 have been a free/libre
software activist myself and have been trying to reignite the free/libre
software movement here (because 90% of the people that talk about it
here in Brazil don't speak out or don't set our goals as priority when
challenged).

Besides, feel free to ask anything related to Trisquel here. You can
also ask questions related to free/libre software movement in general,
but this place serves as support for Trisquel users, since there's a
specific mailing list for general discussion about free/libre software.
I'm also available to answer your questions privately, if you do want to
talk in Brazilian Portuguese instead.

Just ask us, even if you might already know the answer! It's better to
be well informed than misinformed. :D

By the way, you're using GNU+Linux Ubuntu, and I hope you'll be using
GNU+Linux Trisquel, not just "Linux Ubuntu" or "Linux Trisquel". :)

Scripts are a problem, but not the only problem. The entire Build engine is
proprietary, as I mentioned, and would need to be replaced. Frankly, I don't
think it's worth the effort.

Copyright, if we even have it (I don't think we should), should not last 20
years at all. There's no need for a "forced free software license".

2016-09-12 Thread onpon4
JFSW uses the Build engine. The Build engine is proprietary. This is no
different from e.g. a game made with Unity3D.

I'm getting a sense of deja vu here.

See https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/installing-updating-and-removing-software

Trisquel's default install includes the Synaptic package manager too. It
provides a finer control on the installed packages.

And here is a documentation to install the latest version of MATE desktop
environment (from PPA): https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/installing-mate

Trisquel takes Ubuntu and removes proprietary software.
You can make Trisquel work just like Ubuntu, although some devices might not
work without the proprietary software. You should try it and you will
probably be presently surprised.
As you are from Brasil, please read this for more information:

I take it a step further, after 20 years any restrictions or digital
restrictions as they are called should be completely lifted after 20 years.
and it should be forced into some free software license. even if it is as
small as the mit/x11 license.

What GPL engine? Last time I checked, the Build engine is under a custom
license that prohibits non-commercial use and even distribution in any manner
other than "the INTERNET".

https://www.gog.com/game/shadow_warrior_complete

That's funny because just yesterday I ran a game distribution platform that
will not be named in Wine so I could download all the games I bought that
have free implementations of their engine either feature complete or in the
works and I downloaded 42! (Of which you can't even buy those "for linux")
I'm a "on the fence" free software enthusiast, but I respect the free
software culture and wouldn't normally talk about purchases on a drm riddled
non-free platform, but I thought I'd bring it up because it's an interesting
coincidence and I would buy all of those again if they were on GOG. (some
are)

Pic of Games I bought that have free engines in attachment.

but Bluetooth doesn't work.
But are the M.2. cards actually working without proprietary software or is
there some software stored on a flash chip (other than the basic stuff on the
regular Mini PCIE cards) that is equivalent to the OS-loaded firmware?
