Re: [Trisquel-users] Migration to gNewSense 4 Ucclia - Your thoughts?
I had updated the system before checking it too. Since I posted that I've reinstalled Trisquel. Gnewsense has been plagued by out-of-date systems. It took so long for Ucclia to come out too. Not to criticize another free software project. But it makes me appreciate Trisquel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel screenshot has been replaced by gNewSense on front page of gnu.org
"Sorry, but I don't see any gallery of old screenshots in gnu.org." That's because it's not made yet. I was trying to let SalmanMohammadi and others know all that was planned. "Can you show me where did you found this information?" I got it from myself: https://www.gnu.org/people/webmeisters.en.html

Re: [Trisquel-users] Migration to gNewSense 4 Ucclia - Your thoughts?
Firefox 31 is unsupported. That is a serious issue. They should update to 45 ESR (which wheezy is at).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Migration to gNewSense 4 Ucclia - Your thoughts?
If you are thinking of going to gnewsense because you think that the packages will be newer, don't. I just installed it. It's based on Debian Wheezy, which is the old stable version and all the packages are just as old. Gnome-shell is 3.4. On Trisquel belenos it's 3.10. Iceweasel is 31.5, which is very old. If you don't mind old, then go ahead. But then I don't understand why you'd leave Trisquel. It's more up to date.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need to Uninstall Trisquel
oh dumb me thought it was an OS but it doesn't seem to be so far as I can see but my brain may be in dense mode today.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need to Uninstall Trisquel
I've come to a conclusion about this computer- as it's been sugested to me before by at least one person, I need a better machine. Based on my needs, the programs I tried aren't as good as the GNOME Shell, so I need more memory to run it. Although my Mac has enough, it's not libre, but it'd be great as an offline backup, or emergency machine, so I'm working out a plan to buy something that's closer to being Freedom friendly. This machine could be a backup in case something happens to the Libre one. It's too frustrating using this setup, but I'll have to for now till the new one comes. If there was a way to upgrade this one and take the blobs and crapware out, I'd do it, but it's old and probably not worth it. The one I want has 8 GB RAM, if I remember right, it was at ThinkPenguin.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Your battery status is being used to track you online
Yeah me too. :/ My browser version is 49.0.2.
Re: [Trisquel-users] screen resolution issue
well, I followed the instructions found in https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/update-linux-libre-kernel (please scroll down to jxself section) when you and magic banana first tolled me to update my kernel two days ago, and that didn't fix it, but I'm not sure which version I got back then, and I can't know now because I replaced Trisquel by Uruk Gnu/Linux https://urukproject.org/dist/en.html which is based on Trisquel 7, 100% free as in freedom; but of course, will all do my respect to the developers and their efforts, I've no way to know if it actually 100% free as in freedom or not, Free Software Foundation says that they will monitor Uruk Gnu/linux for a while before they endorse it in the free distros list https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.en.html Uruk Gnu/Linux comes in both 34bit and 64bit, the 32bit has the same resolution issue, but the 64bit works fine, 1280 x 800 I would like to ask you and anyone reading this to advice anyone who complains from this resolution issue to try Uruk Gnu/linux 64bit
Re: [Trisquel-users] How simple/complex is your installation process?
Sounds great, count me as a Stable user! Apparmor demands some more education than Firejail (which can be applied system-wide, it seems). Grsecurity even more (even if I don't compile it, but it seems the version in the repo is buggy, according to root_vegetable). And it seems I'm barely scratching the surface here (see post #5): https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2338868 and from the same post: https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ I don't really care that much about security, but this is helping me understand computers a bit more. Most likely I'll start with Firejail, then keep on learning bit by bit. But not everything is worth setting up, I'm sure. For example, setting a GRUB password, or preventing hardware flashing of Libreboot is a bit extreme.
Re: [Trisquel-users] screen resolution issue
>As far as I know, latest libre linux kernel has a patch for the screen resolution. 4.6 or older, I believe, have the ati fix. Add the repository and install 4.8. https://jxself.org/linux-libre/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Your battery status is being used to track you online
Mozilla actually completely removed the API from Firefox: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/nov/01/firefox-disable-battery-status-api-tracking
Re: [Trisquel-users] Best free software friendly router
I just bought a Wireless-N Mini VPN Router from TP along with their VPN service. Really excited to try it out and have a free, open alternative. :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing KDE5 on trisquel 7

Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing KDE5 on trisquel 7
ok as compiling KDE Plasma 5 seems a difficult task and there are no trisquel packages available yet i will just keep using gnome 3 until new packaeges are made. thanks for the help.
Re: [Trisquel-users] screen resolution issue
are you saying that I need to down-grade (not up-date) my Linux libre kernel in Trisquel?
[Trisquel-users] Re : Gnuinos

Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnuinos
Yes, this is the frontend developed in freepascal by Edward:)
[Trisquel-users] Re : Installing KDE5 on trisquel 7
The desktop environment is called "KDE Plasma 5". It is based on libraries in "KDE Frameworks" (as written in the "About KDE" window you show). Ans there are the "KDE Applications", a coherent set of applications that are based as well on the "KDE Frameworks". Anyway, I think everybody understood you wanted "KDE Plasma 5".
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing KDE5 on trisquel 7
So the thing that looks like This is called?
[Trisquel-users] Re : Migration to gNewSense 4 Ucclia - Your thoughts?
based on Debian Wheezy 7.2 Yes it's a Debian Long Term Support https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel screenshot has been replaced by gNewSense on front page of gnu.org
The idea is to rotate the picture every now and again. I agree with jxself. FSF does not discriminate between free software distributions and treats them all equally. As such, it is appreciable to update the screenshot when any one of the enlisted distro makes a new release. I appeal all to write to FSF, once Trisquel 8 is released so that we can get this wonderful distro there again. Ideally to make a gallery of screenshots showing off different distros. Sorry, but I don't see any gallery of old screenshots in gnu.org. Can you show me where did you found this information? [UPDATE] I just tested gNewSense 4.0 today. Seems its based on Debian Wheezy 7.2 (Someone correct me, if I am wrong.) and many software are old as compared to Trisquel 7.0. But overall, it is extremely stable (no crash or lag.) and fully support my Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller. They (Sam Geeraerts, K.Goetz, Brian Brazil and Paul O'Malley) are doing a wonderful job!
