[Trisquel-users] the crackling
When using Belenos I always had frequent crackling when using headphones. I don't recall noticing it while I was briefly using Arch, but it's definitely there after switching to Flidas. Searching online, I can find a lot of threads about crackling when using pulseaudio, but not a lot of solutions. The crackling doesn't go away after$ killall pulseaudio I'm pretty sure it didn't happen in Arch (using pulseaudio), so maybe it's a Trisquel/Ubuntu issue, or perhaps Arch includes some non-free firmware that fixes the problem. I would rather endure the crackling than use non-free firmware, but it would be awesome if I could do neither. Have any Trisquel users encountered and/or fixed this problem? Maybe it's an issue with my hardware? I'm using a ThinkPad x60. Come to think of it, I was only ever using Arch on my x230, so it's possible that the hardware is the issue and not the distro. Ideas?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Untrusted packages
Yes, erasing nonfree PPA is a MUST, but also adding Parabola PCR into Trisquel is best.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
Once 59 ESR comes out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Uruk 2.0 Last Touches
Will Uruk use the Trisquel repository or will it have its own?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
Yay! Do you think Tor Browser will use this as its new base?
[Trisquel-users] QupZilla-libre?
https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtwebengine-features.html I was puzzled to what are nonfree from QupZilla for weeks, but ultimately I have now a moment to prove what few people here are discussing. The only nonfree elements in QtWebEngine, hence QupZilla are PepperFlashPlayer libraries and few Chromium ones by Google for use in Chromium, we are here to just ask people here also contributing for Parabola, to liberate QupZilla (hence QtWebEngine) with simply and completely erasing this PepperFlashPlayer, Chromium tools, finally their every libraries, to be a candidate for Parabola into the ''libre'' pool.

Quidam is working on it: https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/package-helpers/commit/c9c343408cb50b55269523d1a1be25180a2292af
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
I have a GTX 1050 on my desktop machine (which I have yet to convert to Trisquel). Will that work with nouveau?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
However, Abrowser will be (or "is") on the Trisquel repos? Because Parabola hackers haves some issues for compile it and I don't know if the rebranding proceeding has been changed for Firefox Quantum. I've tested Firefox 57 and floats!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
I guess I will try 57 out, but I'm sticking with 52 ESR until 59 ESR comes out. Hopefully by then all of my addons will have WebExtensions versions... (By the way a WebExtensions version of NoScript is out.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
AMD has made some big strides with Linux open drivers and are en par with Nvidea in some realms, like using Blender. This is sort of a breakthrough year for them. They could always be better. However, Libre drivers are a different issue. There is nothing out there like Nouveau for AMD at this time, unfortunately. I need to invest in a good graphics card for video/graphics and some motion graphics. I will not touch Intel due to their ongoing human rights violations, so it is just AMD and Nvidea as a vhoice for now. Android development and gaming is not a priority. I am not buying anything now now now, I have to take my time because this is a big purchase decision. A business investment.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
As far as I know, AMD is awful. No 3D acceleration in particular.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
Thanks for the tip. It is pretty fast indeed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
The next frontier of the free software. I am old enough to have seen the struggle and battle of GNU-Linux with proprietary hardware, the days when only windows had the drivers, the terrible "winmodem" and so on. Nowadays GNU-Linux non-free runs almost everything. The Free GNU-Linux is like the non-free version some years ago. Coming back to the topic what about amd cards?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
Really thought you're talking about me!!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
I have gtx770 with 4gb of GDDR5 and it's runs blobless. If you want something more modern, you must to run full of non-free firmwares. And be carefull, maybe some functions/extensions for your software will be incompatible. For example, if you run Android Studio's emulator with hardware acceleration graphics, it will be incompatible with nouveau, but it runs fine with software emulation. For games, any game will run with nouveau and gtx770 (except Serious Sam). Also pre Skylake generations of Intel processors, will run fine, if you want Intel GPU, you should get some pre-skylake CPU with Intel Iris graphics, but probably you won't get 8gb of GDDR5.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
I dislike the new icon though. Icons are becoming simpler even as computers are becoming more powerful and therefore less burdened by detailed and complex icons.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
Sounds good to me. I'm sticking to Icecat as much as I can as long as I can, but relieved that it's not all bad news.
[Trisquel-users] Next Trisquel update (PGADMIN4)
Please in the next update put the pgadmin4 thank you
Re: [Trisquel-users] Error messages on startup
I never faced any problem like that. May be a benign problem...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need a daily reminder
Hey everyone, thank you so much for all the replies. So, I think I will go with the solution Magic Banana posted, but I will use a spreadsheet file instead of a text file. Is it possible to, using LibreOffice, have a sheet with dates and events, and another sheet that only shows the dates and events pertaining the current day? Any simple tutorial on Calc will be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
Uhh, like, you got anything pro level with about eight gigs of RAM? Some backstory. Right now, I dual boot with Windows out of necessity. I was trained in Adobe CC (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, etc.), but now use DaVinci Resolve, Blender, and Mixbus/Ardour. Cinelerra is looking right promising as a video editor and Blender needs more power, but the latter also does Non Linear Video Editing (NLE). Tranitioning to Linux is not that far (I hope). I may need to dual boot with Linux and Linux Libre, which would be great. And then run something Stallman approved at some point. But I need something powerful, besides just upgrading the CPU and RAM. Eight gigs +.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Error messages on startup
Do you face any problem relating to energy management (for instance the computer that does not shutdown when you ask it to)? If not, the error is probably benign.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
When we gets the Icecat version? (I propose we call it 'Schrodinger's Icecat' ;-) )
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
I can confirm: 57 really flies. I’ll stick to FF ESR, though, until Noscript is out.
[Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
So.. I was curious so yesterday I downloaded it to try and see, and oh boy oh boy is it smooth and snappy. Firefox is back from the limbo of bloated crapware it would appear. If you use older hardware like myself you are in for a big surprise. About time Mouzilla, about time :) https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
I believe that would be a gtx770. Any kepler series nvidia gpu will actually work just fine and deliver decent performance.

SuperTramp83 or supertramposo after all, the cloak of invisibility is not flawless but completely a mental twist of words to others... I could see a colloquial Metamorphism leader "LOL", i JUST MADE THIS ONE... lol

Ok, I'll try to follow all your steps, thanks to everyone! And If I have problems again I'll let you know
Re: [Trisquel-users] Good pro graphics card to invest in that is Libre-friendly?
Good question. What is 'the best' graphics card option that is available right now, which is fully compatible with libre drivers?
[Trisquel-users] Re : Need a daily reminder
Right. The definition of the display variable can be before in the crontab so that there is no need to define it for each command.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'd like to start volunteering my time to help Trisquel. What can I do to help?
Hi kpengboy, how do we know which package helpers need to be updated? Try installing Flidas and see which packages don't work?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need a daily reminder
Thanks (I've never actually run graphic applications via cron - just command line ones - so I didn't know you needed to add something for graphic applications to work), so I'm guessing the command to run needs to be something like this, right? @reboot sleep 1h && DISPLAY=:0.0 gedit ~/todo.txt
[Trisquel-users] Re : Need a daily reminder
To execute graphical application, such as GEdit, the DISPLAY variable must be specified in the crontab: DISPLAY=:0.0
