Re: [Trisquel-users] SNAP, a door to non free software!
I didn't realize that was the issue. Okay, you have a point. Never is it good to steer people towards proprietary crap. Even if its optional. As Stallman says, optionally free is not enough. Though in today's day and age it would be awesome just to have optionally free hardware. That's a far cry from what we have now.

threadirqs: Force threading of all interrupt handlers except those marked explicitly IRQF_NO_THREAD. nomdmonddf nomdmonisw: I don't know what those do. I found this link: http://ewen.mcneill.gen.nz/blog/entry/2015-06-14-ubuntu-lucid-to-trust-in-two-larger-steps/ Two new RAID-related options appeared in the kernel options with Ubuntu 14.04 -- nomdmonddf and nomdmonisw. They appear to be underdocumented, and basically only relate to Ubuntu. Maybe add it as a wiki page in the doco section? Would you? How do I do this?
Re: [Trisquel-users] SNAP, a door to non free software!
Thanks for reporting the bug. It's # 23918 right here: https://trisquel.info/en/issues/23918 You should also send an email about it to report-nonf...@fsf.org and get a GNU Buck for your efforts signed by RMS. More information about GNU Bucks are at https://www.gnu.org/help/gnu-bucks.en.html
[Trisquel-users] The FSF sponsors an Outreachy internship including Trisquel and other projects, applications are open until March 29!
I'll borrow the description from www.outreachy.org: "Outreachy provides three-month internships for people from groups traditionally underrepresented in tech. Interns are paid a stipend of $5,500 and have a $500 travel stipend available to them. Interns work remotely with mentors from Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities on projects ranging from programming, user experience, documentation, illustration and graphical design, to data science. Interns often find employment after their internship with Outreachy sponsors or in jobs that use the FOSS skills they learned during their internship. Outreachy internships are open internationally to women (cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer people. Internships are also open to residents and nationals of the United States of any gender who are Black/African American, Hispanic/Latin@, Native American/American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander. We are planning to expand the program to more participants from underrepresented backgrounds in the future." This year the Free Software Foundation participates for the first time, by sponsoring ONE internship to work on ONE OF THREE possible topics: "Fix bugs and freedom issues in Trisquel GNU/Linux" "Fix bugs in the Free Software Directory" "Updating the Email Self-Defense Guide" Only one of the three internships will happen, the choice will be made by the FSF based on the merits of the applicants. You can see more (and other internship options) at: https://www.outreachy.org/apply/project-selection/ Note that the details of each internship are only open to people that register and complete the eligibility checklist. As a general description, the work would focus on writing "package helpers" to fix freedom and privacy issues, as well as improving the documentation. More info on helpers, and examples at: https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/package-helpers Applicants will be expected to complete a few of what would be their daily tasks (in the Trisquel case, writing helper scripts) before the application deadline, and then the Foundation will decide which internship would be carried on. The internship period would be May 14 to August 14 2018. If you apply, don't forget to join the trisquel-devel mailing list to let as know and get you started! https://listas.trisquel.info/mailman/listinfo/trisquel-devel

Re: [Trisquel-users] SNAP, a door to non free software!
I know you are into Trisquel 8 final steps, and I am glad to see that you have this problem in mind, but Trisquel 7 has this problem. Is there a way to solve it? (Will any developer try to solve it). I would try to do if I had the skills and the time (I have none, I'm afraid).
[Trisquel-users] recommend a run-and-gun video game for Trisquel?
Prefer top-down but side-scrolling would be ok too Do you know of a good one?
Re: [Trisquel-users] SNAP, a door to non free software!
There was a discussion of that on the gnu-linux-libre mailing list. The thread was "programming language package manager" if anyone wants to read it. TL;DR: It's not any different and, to the extent that language-specific package managers contain non-free software, this same issue is raised and should be addressed. As you can see from the mailing list Guix is on it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] SNAP, a door to non free software!
> How is this any different to pip or easy_install? As far as I know, it's not different from these, because all of those three have external default repositories. Perhaps we have to seek help from other free/libre system distribution projects since these patches might be useful to all these projects. The issue is also seen with npm. Note that I don't know if Trisquel's pip, easy_install or npm have these issues, I only mentioned that they have these issues by default because I already experienced this in other distros a long time ago.

How is this any different to pip or easy_install?
