Re: [Trisquel-users] Why is Trisquel 8 taking so long
I installed Trisquel 8 on my laptop. The two Blocking issues that I reported are no longer a problem. I easily hooked up to hidden wifi without dhcp. And I burned a dvd. Wasn't able to do either last year. Jxself's 4.15.12 installed. Nice new wallpaper too. Should I mark those issues as solved?
Re: [Trisquel-users] SoundConverter won't convert .wma to .mp3
The problem seems to be particularly bad with .wma. I also have a bunch of .m4a files I want to convert, and I was able to convert a test file to FLAC, MP3, and Vorbis, but the UI was still buggy with MP3. The first time I hit the 'convert' button it did nothing but create a message saying "conversion done in 0 s". So I tried hitting the button again, and this time it popped up a couple of error dialogues saying "could not open resource for writing", but then successfully carried out the conversion.
[Trisquel-users] Re : SoundConverter won't convert .wma to .mp3
Do you have the package "gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly" installed? Here, SoundConverter often outputs a "Gstreamer error" message that says "Could not open resource for writing"... but it does the job anyway!
[Trisquel-users] SoundConverter won't convert .wma to .mp3
I recently installed SoundConverter (2.0.4) on Trisquel 7. All updates have been downloaded and installed with apt-get. Today, I tried to convert some .wma files to .mp3. It didn't work, and I and got a pop-up with the following error message: >> "failed to install plugins: "" > SoundConverter 2.0.4 using Gstreamer version: 0.10.36 using 2 thread(s) using gio "faac" gstreamer element not found, disabling AAC output. /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/soundconverter/python/soundconverter/ui.py:1510: Warning: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised gnome.init(name, version) /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/soundconverter/python/soundconverter/ui.py:1510: Warning: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::show-crash-dialog after class was initialised gnome.init(name, version) /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/soundconverter/python/soundconverter/ui.py:1510: Warning: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::display after class was initialised gnome.init(name, version) /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/soundconverter/python/soundconverter/ui.py:1510: Warning: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::default-icon after class was initialised gnome.init(name, version) (soundconverter:2502): Gnome-WARNING **: Accessibility: failed to find module 'libgail-gnome' which is needed to make this application accessible > (soundconverter:2502): Gnome-WARNING **: Accessibility: failed to find module 'libgail-gnome' which is needed to make this application accessible walking: 'file:///home/strypey/Music/to-convert/fat_freddy's_drop-live_at_the_matterhorn' Queue start: 4 tasks, 2 thread(s). Actually ignore this, I'll create a new thread for it.

Re: [Trisquel-users] ebook reader advice
Thanks for all the help guys. With ebooks, I don't have to buy Canadian, I think I will look for a better supplier.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why doesn't Trisquel 8 use Iridium browser as default browser?
Also, because there are still questions about whether the Iridium team have successfully removed all proprietary code from upstream. See: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/confirmation-iridium-libre
[Trisquel-users] Re : Why doesn't Trisquel 8 use Iridium browser as default browser?
That's both Abrowser and IceCat.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why doesn't Trisquel 8 use Iridium browser as default browser?
>(Abrowser) which Trisquel's developer maintains That's Icecat.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What happened to store.vikings.net?
It must be rough to stay dry in the winter, specially where Vikings roam the seas. No umbrella made in viking land..
Re: [Trisquel-users] ebook reader advice
I agree with aloniv on the point of avoiding DRM, the few books I looked at on their site all say that they come with Adobe DRM. Opening epub however shouldn't be an issue for e.g. fbreader. The deletion of books RMS occasionally talks about refers to the Amazon (Sw/K)indle, which was used by Amazon to delete 1984 from readers devices. If you were to use a Free Software reader application, you won't run the risk of this happening to you - but you might run the risk of not being able to view the book (now or in the future) if the DRM is intrusive enough. You might find https://www.defectivebydesign.org/guide/ebooks to be an interesting read.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why is Trisquel 8 taking so long
"GNU FSDG" stands for "GNU Free Software Distribution Guidelines". The acronym has changed multiple times, but the "F" has never stood for "FSF".
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why doesn't Trisquel 8 use Iridium browser as default browser?
Because it already has a free software browser (Abrowser) which Trisquel's developer maintains (which includes removing suggestions of non-free add-ons, removing DRM support, and providing a free add-on repository). Making Iridium completely free would likely also require some work (such as maintaining a list of free add-ons and ensuring support for DRM is removed).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : Why is Trisquel 8 taking so long
> Oh, yes, there is that. Are there still packages under that old > unclear license in Stretch? I'm not sure, all I know is that the DFSG (D for "Debian") still accepts that, while the GNU FSDG (F for "FSF") doesn't.

Re: [Trisquel-users] ebook reader advice
kobo uses DRM on some/all of their ebooks, so it's best to avoid getting ebooks from there. https://www.kobo.com/help/en-US/article/3501/using-adobe-digital-editions
