Trisquel: GNOME Shell by default or GNOME Classic (GNOME Shell + extensions for GNOME 2 classic style) like Red Hat Enterprise. I don't know but I think it's Mozilla Firefox problem. This consumes a lot of CPU and RAM. Years ago I played 720p video at VLC in one ten years old computer and worked flawless. With Abrowser/Firefox up to 100% of CPU with 480p video in one single core CPU.

Re: [Trisquel-users] US Patent Office Grants 'Photography Against A White Background' To Amazon
DETAILED DESCRIPTION Embodiments of the disclosure are directed to an arrangement of various elements to form a studio in which items, people, products, clothing, or any other objects can be photographed and/or filmed to achieve a particular effect. More specifically, embodiments of the disclosure can allow images and/or video of an item placed in a studio arrangement as described herein to be captured with a background that appears, when captured with an image capture device, as a near perfect white without the need for post-processing, retouching, or other image manipulation. In other words, images and video of items captured in the studio arrangement appear against a background that is equivalent to a white background when converted into a web color hexadecimal triplet corresponding to a true white. A hexadecimal triplet corresponding to a true white according to various browser standards, such as hypertext markup language (HTML), cascading style sheets (CSS), and other standards, can be represented by three bytes corresponding to a red parameter, a green parameter, and a blue parameter, each with a maximum value of 255. Additionally, embodiments of the disclosure also achieve an effect, without any image manipulation, of an object photographed and/or filmed in the studio arrangement that appears to be floating in front of the true white background with a reflection of the object appearing beneath the object. Prior art solutions for achieving such a result for capturing images and/or video of objects set against a true white background include solutions that often involve some type of image retouching, post processing, “green screen” techniques, or other special effects and image and video manipulation to achieve the result of an object set against a true white background. Accordingly, as will be described herein, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a studio arrangement in which an object can be photographed and/or filmed, and the images and/or video captured by the camera achieve the effect noted above without any image manipulation due to the particular arrangements of the subject, camera, lighting and background. http://www.google.com/patents/US8676045

You can install Trisquel 6.0 in this computer. The big problem in my opinion is Abrowser (since version 4 from 2011). It's memory hungry. Trisquel 6.0 32-bit boot with GNOME Fallback 3.4 with 130~150MB of RAM. 64-bit boot with 250MB. The old computer I had was Celeron, worst than your CPU.

Re: [Trisquel-users] New on Trisquel: how to see live videos and chatting on sites
Solutions: First disable or remove Gnash in the Abrowser or Midori. FilmesOnlineGratis[0]: you can right-click on the play button and copy link location, after paste the URL in the Totem (Video Player) with Ctrl+L, VLC (Ctrl+N), MPlayer, etc. Dramago works perfectly with UnPlug[1] in Abrowser with MP4 format(I saw some episodes). You can try Flash Video Downloader[2] also. Chessbase uses some Vimeo videos (MP4 format) and I saw with Gnash disabled. Chat Portugal uses Flash. You can choose another website, probably this website doesn't works with free software. Ekiga isn't good. I recommend Jitsi, Linphone or WebRTC. All this is cross-platform. You can install in the most operating systems. For GNU/Linux the best for small resources or old computer is Empathy and Linphone. Jitsi is a memory and CPU hungry. Probably WebRTC in Abrowser too.

Re: [Trisquel-users] What are the things that Trisquel can do but Windows 7 can't?
I play free games in GNU + Linux-libre perfectly.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What are the things that Trisquel can do but Windows 7 can't?
It is a developer problem. They create binaries with all libraries for Windows and OS X. In GNU(+Linux, kFreeBSD, Hurd, Darwin, etc) or *BSD they doesn't do this. They wait for packagers from distros or for you compile from source. Some applications is easy to download and install in any distribution. Like Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Jitsi, Blender, Synfig. They created binaries with all or main libraries. I can install all this applications without internet access in distros from 2009 or newer. You need to create one project with most commons free software with all libraries compiled and create binaries for the most of distros. :-D
Re: [Trisquel-users] What are the things that Trisquel can do but Windows 7 can't?
Trisquel can do things with freedom. The best way is migrate from proprietary applications to free as in freedom applications. After this everybody can use Trisquel without problems. Install in your Windows: Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, VLC, Jitsi, Deluge(or qbittorrent), GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus, Blender, Audacity, etc (you can search others here in Trisquel website (also in the distribution, of course) or in the Free Software Directory). After this step you can install the default Trisquel (GNOME Panel+Compiz) or with GNOME Shell or KDE or XFCE. Or try Trisquel Mini with LXDE. And try to move out people from Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, Skype, Flickr, YouTube and move to Diaspora, pump.io, XMPP and GNU MediaGoblin.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Why Assistive Technology option at boot dropped in 6?
I don't like the description in the Sonar page: If you are a new user to GNU/Linux you must understand that GNU/Linux is not a replacement of proprietary operating systems but an alternative. Since it is an alternative there are some differences between GNU/Linux and the proprietary operating systems. So there is going to be a small learning curve to understand how GNU/Linux operates and is structured. There are some simalarities between the two so it is not like you will have to start from the beginning and forget everything you knew about the proprietary system you are coming from. Both systems do share some simalarities. The best feature of Sonar is that it is Free software and if you depend of assistive technology this is the best option for you. Free software gives you 4 Freedoms that proprietary software doesn't give you,, in fact it restricts you. If you want to understand Free software then visit the FSF website to understand it completely because the FSF is where Free software began.
