Just saw this message today! This is exciting, and I like the weekly updates

to be similar to the screenshot?

This sounds great! I can't wait to flash it on my GuixSD machine! Congrats to
the Libreboot team! :-D

You aren't the only one thinking about it in this light:
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libreboot/2016-09/msg00055.html.

I wonder how often employers consider this when employing trans people. I
hate that things like this can ignite even without anything actually
happening. I think that regardless of the truth of her statement, the way she
handled it does more harm to the LGBT+ people in free software like us than
anything else.

Can you post the output of xrandr --query when you're in Window Maker with
the second monitor attached?

I would have said LXDE a few years ago, but I've come to like Window Maker a
bit more. I like the clip, the configuration software, the low RAM and CPU
usage, the stability, etc. LXDE is a close second though (as I type this from
Trisquel Mini's LXDE)!

I've been fixated on the libre version of the game HyperRogue lately. I also
love text adventures and ASCII-based roguelikes.

[Trisquel-users] Contributing to Trisquel

If a complete newbie to how Debian-based distros work under the hood wanted
to contribute to Trisquel's development, where would they start?

I don't have a solution, but I can verify that both of these things happen to
me as well. Is the Trisquel store down?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wanna start contributing code? Ask your question here

2017-04-19 Thread keiyamashita
I want to try to package the open-ath9k-htc-firmware package from Debian for
Trisquel 8, but I can't get pbuilder to create a flidas-based build
environment because openjdk-7-jre is missing from the apt repos. Is there a
way around this requirement, or should I use a belenos-based build
environment instead?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wanna start contributing code? Ask your question here

2017-04-20 Thread keiyamashita
I think I found the issue. The pbuilderrc file in the trisquel-builder source
code is configured to build a belenos environment. I had manually changed
some of the code to build a flidas environment instead, but openjdk-7-jre was
still in the EXTRAPACKAGES variable in my pbuilderrc file.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wanna start contributing code? Ask your question here

Now I'm hitting other hiccups:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
cdbs : Depends: dh-translations but it is not going to be installed
gnome-pkg-tools : Depends: dh-translations but it is not going to be
installed
 openjdk-8-jre : Depends: openjdk-8-jre-headless (=
8u121-b13-0ubuntu1.16.04.2) but it is not going to be installed
python3-distutils-extra : Depends: intltool but it is not going to be
installed

Re: [Trisquel-users] Community feedback is needed on whether Libreboot should re-join GNU

2017-04-22 Thread keiyamashita
I feel like the issues that would make this decision questionable have been
more than adequately taken care of (decentralized authority, thorough and
humble apology, reorientation on project goals, etc.). Also, I see Libreboot
as a very useful (and at this point critical) piece of free software that
would do well to be a part of GNU. You have an emphatic request to rejoin
from me! :-)

Re: [Trisquel-users] Wanna start contributing code? Ask your question here

2017-04-23 Thread keiyamashita
It turned out that I could add the packages mentioned by "Depends: " by
manually adding them to EXTRA_PACKAGES in my pbuilderrc file. I did that
until it stopped working, so now I have "Package 'aptitude' is not installed,
so not removed
Package ca-certificates is not available, but is referred to by another
package."

Do you have htc_9271.fw in your /lib/firmware folder? If not, see if you can
copy it from the live system on the USB drive to the /lib/firmware folder on

Re: [Trisquel-users] GRUB-based full disk encryption tip!

2016-04-15 Thread keiyamashita
So it doesn't seem that I can find the original author's contact information.
However, a quick web search led me to this page. It may be worth
investigating the following claim from the link.

"As I understand it, when the kernel pivots to the actual root filesystem
and thus no longer needs the initramfs that's loaded into RAM, it simply
frees that memory without first zeroing it. That means that a process,
running as any user, can just malloc ram and reads its uninitialized contents
in a loop until it comes upon something that looks like your LUKS keyfile.
Eventually, even if it takes multiple boots, it will succeed. This is why
it's so important that an official protocol be developed between the kernel
and bootloader, because then the kernel knows to treat any memory containing
credentials carefully and ensure that it doesn't leak out to somewhere it
shouldn't."
