Re: [Trisquel-users] Nouveau, kernel and freezes

2020-06-23 Thread vanacksabbadium
Yeah, it's still maintained and that's an amazing thing. But if there's a
critical bug like that (random freezings are very annoying), i'd rather
install the latest version if it's patched for that.

I hope 5.8 will fix it, thank you so much!

Installed today and working like a charm. Thank you!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 9 Libre Kernel?

2020-06-22 Thread vanacksabbadium
Update: it worked for me without issues. I'm running linux-libre 5.7.4 right
now, latest version.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Nouveau, kernel and freezes

2020-06-22 Thread vanacksabbadium
Yeah, thanks. I've seen the other topic about it, and i managed to install
the latest linux-libre kernel, which is 5.7.4.

And it works GREAT (no issues at all).

Unfortunately, still crashes happens sometimes due to some Nouveau bug still
unresolved.

I'm talking with Karol Herbst to find a solution but i need more logs.

[Trisquel-users] Nouveau, kernel and freezes

2020-06-22 Thread vanacksabbadium
I don't know if someone is aware of some issues related to nouveau and older
kernels, such as freezes, GPU crashes and multithreading.
I talked with one of nouveau's developers, Karol Herbst, and he is working on
it for a long time.

In this tweet (https://twitter.com/nouveau_xorg/status/1274628416306909184)
he said he implemented a patch in one of the newest Linux kernels (5.6).
However, Trisquel repository is still at Linux kernel 4.15, which is pretty
much old.

Is there any plan to implement a kernel > 5.6? (the latest is the 5.7)
Or, is it safe to upgrade manually to the latest Linux kernel (or Linux-libre
in this case) without messing with everything else?

Thanks

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 9 Libre Kernel?

2020-06-22 Thread vanacksabbadium
I'm planning to install the latest linux-libre version too because of some
nouveau issues related to the kernel.
I hope all goes right, even though i know i can go back to the stable 4.15
release which is the latest distro provided kernel.

Re: [Trisquel-users] No ethernet connection after minimal netinstall

2020-01-25 Thread vanacksabbadium

OMG Beko, it worked.

The solution was to install the "linux-image-extra-hwe-16.04-edge", which not
only installed all the required ethernet Realtek modules but also support for
NTFS which was not installed with the Linux-generic kernel.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

yes I thought about that but I don't know which kernel I should install. I
tried with the latest one, the 4.15.0-74-generic, I can also choose between
signed, generic, hwe and others, and I don't know the differences.

[Trisquel-users] No ethernet connection after minimal netinstall

2020-01-25 Thread vanacksabbadium

Hi everyone, I need help.
I installed a minimal Trisquel 9.0 setup with no desktop environment. My idea
was to install AwesomeVM without any pre-installed DE.
All was fine but when I rebooted and the shell opened, I had no internet
connection.
Command "sudo ifconfig" tells me that I only have "lo" module loaded, no
Eth0, no enp1s0, nothing else.
I tried using my mobile connection with USB tethering but it cannot be
recognized.
Seems like my Realtek ethernet 8111 card kernel module is not loaded and
ethernet connection is not recognized.

Has someone any idea of what can I do? Chaosmonk?

Alright, thank you for the answer.
I really love Trisquel Mini, it's just exactly what i need for a lightweight
and fast DE for my very old PC.

Thank you again for your hard work, it's really appreciated.

Hi everybody.

I'm trying to install Feral's gamemode 32-bit libraries, but it needs some

installable on Trisquel.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Internet connection problem

I quote Magic Banana (nice nick BTW), the newest Network Manager upgrade
doesn't work either, i had to downgrade again.

Re: [Trisquel-users] don't upgrade to backported network-manager or wpa-supplicant

2019-10-20 Thread vanacksabbadium

Hell, now i see your topic.
At first i thought it was my connection, but my wi-fi was still working.
Fortunately, i remembered that yesterday i upgraded network-manager, so i
reverted to previous version and all worked again.

WPA supplicant can be upgraded, it doesn't break anything.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Italian administration goes Open Source, and that will benefit Free Software

2019-07-04 Thread vanacksabbadium

I'm italian, so this is an amazing news for me as an italian citizen.
However, i know italian people. We say "fatta la legge, trovato l'inganno",
that means literally "created the law, found the trick". When the article
says that "public administration MIGHT use proprietary software but it has to
justify it", i read it as "everyone will found a way to use proprietary
software by finding excuses to not use free and open source software". Why?
Because that's how italian people usually do things. And that is sad and
shameful.

I hope someone will care about open source enough to make a statement and a
change in italian administration, which is very obsolete (some offices still
use Windows XP...) as today.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Snap on Trisquel Mini 8

2019-03-16 Thread vanacksabbadium

Yes, i´ḿ trying to install the newest version of Midori.
I managed to install it from source, but now it lacks of very useful
extensions like bookmarks manager. I suppose that installing from source
messed some configurations... So i wanted to try with the "official" way of
installing it, which is by using snap.

[Trisquel-users] Snap on Trisquel Mini 8

2019-03-15 Thread vanacksabbadium

Hi everyone.
Is it possible to install snap on Trisquel Mini?

If i type "sudo apt install snapd" it gives me:

Package snapd is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'snapd' has no installation candidate

Thank you so much.
