Surprisingly, the cupswrapper one (but not the lpr one) looks like free  
software. But the manufacturer's drivers are usually crap. You might want to  
try https://github.com/pdewacht/brlaser.

Is there an open source driver for the Brother DCP-7055 printer/scanner?

There are different drivers at their website but I don't know if they are  
open althougt they provide a source code.
