Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
After the wet season, when the northwest monsoon has finished and before the southeast trade winds begin, various items wash up on the beaches around Cape Arnhem and Yirrkalla. Among these items are coconuts, breadfruit, pandanus cones, long seed pods, as well as timber and the occasional canoe. The people in these areas believed these to be gifts from the jiridja spirits to the relatives who are still living. They also believe the northeast winds and the clouds are also gifts to them from the jiridja spirits. The living send the spirits of their dead by performing the mortuary rites and singing the appropriate songs. http://www.austhrutime.com/land_of_the_dead.htm We owe you so much Sad Rest in Peace Ian
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Not everybody who saw the context sees bigotry and racism: http://archive.is/OPlI7 although I tend to agree with onpon4 that Mr. Murdock probably had an unrealistically high opinion of human nature and did not anticipate the fact that mainstream media is quickly dismissing the incident as "the nonsensical drunken ravings of a lunatic". I find the spin of the SFBay article: http://sfbay.ca/2015/12/31/police-confirm-ian-murdock-arrest-before-suicide/ "Gatpandan said she urges anyone seeking help with a suicidal individual to quickly call police to get them to the help they need." particularly chilling.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
RIP Ian Murdock. This is very sad news. Unfortunately, as onpon4 said, I don't think this is going to bring very much attention to the issue of police brutality. And to the people calling him "bigoted," please take a look at the context of his tweet.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
RIP
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Yesterday, the Debian Project published an article, which is a tribute to Ian's life: https://www.debian.org/News/2016/20160105 To reflect the loss, they darkened the main page banner and added a black ribbon to the Debian logo. Also, an email address in-memoriam-...@debian.org was created, which can be used to send your condolences to Murdock's family.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Legimet That is Exactly what happen, to me few times; as I further my reading on Murdock forum, I realize, too many grammatical errors, Bulgar expressions, racial profiling, very incoherent. Someone else was writing for him and not himself. Spme people only read, what ever they want to hear and not the WHOLE STORY.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
I suspect that he was murder by someone, who knew him well by his success and achievements, and by his wealth. I read the transcript and defiantly someone order his death, just trying to derail hes commitment to the community. They knew his weakness and did maximize it. Why not hire a private body guard? and let friends about hes fear? Hes death was intentional and not suicidal. It is so wrong and shady! Did he reach someone to help him out. Sad loss
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
may the police get what the justly deserve for hurting this man...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Ian will be missed and remembered.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
RIP Ian Murdock
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
RIP. All evidence leads to the conclusion that he suicided after being a victim of police abuse, you could call it covert psychological murder. Here are some archives of his twitter before it was closed: https://archive.is/9HF4c https://archive.is/DcVrY
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
I think he may have been tragically mistaken about how big of a news story his experience would be. Some of his tweets suggest that he thought the death of a white man would get more attention in the media than the death of a black man, but realistically, the whole reason cases of police brutality against black people get publicized so much is specifically because they're black. All sorts of people face police brutality, but it's black people who were systematically oppressed in the past (through slavery, Jim Crow laws, and the stuff in between), and that makes it especially easy for us to get really angry when a white person does wrong to a black person. I don't expect this to get any substantial coverage far outside of GNU/Linux circles, to be honest. And if it does, I think most people will forget about it pretty quickly.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Roll on Ian. I won't comment on the issues of what lead to this event as there just isn't enough information yet. That said we do need to look into it to get to the bottom of issue regardless of what it was.
[Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
In case you missed yesterday's news on Phoronix: Debian Founder Ian Murdock Passes Away I hope that everyone here is alive and well.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
You are right. Media always covers sensational things. To my surprise though the Indian mainstream media has covered this news.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Ian's family could retain a local lawyer to investigate. Maybe the police version is correct. If the family cares to find out, they should ask for the police radio recording, cell phone records, police car computer text message records, police officer notes, 911 call audio (for the reported break-in and description of suspect), police car video, police body camera video, and try to identify and interview witnesses. Sad ending no matter what led up to this ...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Creator of Debian committed suicide…or beign murdered?
Before his death, he said some bigoted and racial comments on Twitter, which was later removed.
