Re: [Trisquel-users] Do we have a date for the Trisquel 8 release?

It's easy to get excited, and I'm sure the FSF $ helps, but it's definitely
best to keep low expectations and be patient. It's reasonable to hope that
Trisquel 8 could be out soon (this being May 2016, and last LTS release in
2014, never gone so long between releases in the past), and it is based on
Ubuntu 16.04 which comes out July 1. Note, though, that it took 7 months from
Ubuntu 14.04 until Trisquel 7, and 11 months from Ubuntu 12.04 to Trisquel 6.
So at that rate we would be waiting at least until early 2017. Let's hope
not, but let's keep reasonable expectations. I'm excited to see what comes!

Fair enough.

"It was a passing comment. It was admitted as much in another forum."

Not exactly. I said "Indeed" indicating agreement with onpon4 that the
initial comment came from me and went on to say that I probably jumped the
gun by mentioning it because it seems to have become quite the topic of
conversation since then and may not even work out in the end due to technical
things. Time will tell.

It was a passing comment. It was admitted as much in another forum. Unless it
comes from the actual development team then it's not really evidence.
They said "GTK-based" desktop in the recent blog post. So it could easily be
Xfce or full GNOME-Shell, which would both be ideal, or even Cinnamon.

Didn't jxself, who is an important person here, say recently that it was
going to be MATE? It would be smarter to use MATE, considering that it will
be officially supported upstream and is one of the most polished traditional
desktops out there. Much better than trying to hack away at the limited Gnome
fallback.

someone on this forum said that it usually takes only a few months to remove
ubuntu's crap to make it usable and stable.

I forget when but it was like in early april I overheard this and so I
thought it would be maybe done in july or august.

With Ruben being employed by the FSF, it helps with Trisquel development and
hopefully gets a release within a month or so of Ubuntu 16.04. I'm excited
about the MATE based main release and how it will look and function better
than Trisquel 7.

Any release dates or release windows set?
