Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Yes, it's possible, and most probably beneficial. It's possible for anything newer/equivalent to Debian Squeeze (or Ubuntu Lucid).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
I also like the improvements to BTRFS and XFS since I run them on my system. I also got an Nvida GTX 970 this past Christmas and the 3.19 kernel and latest Xorg seem to work much better than 3.13 and 3.16.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Why? Unless your hardware needs it for something, there's no point in upgrading the kernel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
The default kernel is pretty old at this point, so you may want to try a later kernel via http://jxself.org/linux-libre/ once you get your system up and running.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Can the latest (jxself) linux-libre kernels be used with T6? For example I'm running the latest generic kernel on T6, is it possible and beneficial for me to install (jxself's) v3.19 say?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/install-trisquel-server in case you have doubts or need help. The guide says generic as those nice people already pointed out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
AFAIK, the default one in Trisquel 7 is lowlatency.
[Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Hi There This afternoon I will try to install Trisquel via NetInstall. I am pretty shure that I will have to choose manually the appropriate kernel. Could somebody tell me how to determine the kernel I need? I have an Asus Zenbook UX31. http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX31E/ Thank you for your help.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
the default one is generic go for that
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Going for generic can't hurt. (It's called 'generic' for a reason:)
[Trisquel-users] Which kernel?
I am using with success the repository of new kernels[1]. I recall the day when there were two kernels. One stable and one unstable. So now there are 3.10, 3.13 (both generic and low latency), 3.14, 3.17 and a 3.18. Debian still runs 3.2 I think. Can someone clear the mess? [1] http://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/
[Trisquel-users] which kernel version? (release notes?)
I can't seem to find the release notes on the site. What kernel versions are the Trisquel editions using?
Re: [Trisquel-users] which kernel version? (release notes?)
i'm not sure if this answers your question, but when i installed Trisquel 5.5 it came with vmlinuz-3.0.0-17-generic in the boot directory which is by now automatically updated to vmlinuz-3.0.0-24-generic
Re: [Trisquel-users] which kernel version? (release notes?)
I'm running the Trisquel 6.0 Beta, dated 12-November. It's using 3.2.0-31-generic According to uname -a
Re: [Trisquel-users] which kernel version? (release notes?)
so is Trisquel using Debian Testing rather than Stable? The Debian Squeeze I have is running 2.6.32-5-686. There's not a huge difference but I found it interesting that I seemed to have less issues with Trisquel than with Debian - Debian doesn't identify my monitor and ABrowser seems more up to date.
Re: [Trisquel-users] which kernel version? (release notes?)
Trisquel is derived from Ubuntu, which is a bit like Debian Testing. We're using the Linux Libre kernel, not the Ubuntu or Debian, however. Abrowser is more up-to-date than iceweasel (in Wheezy, anyway).
