Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
The bigger they grow the closer they will be in semblance and behaviour. I can still remember how Google was an underdog search engine "do no evil" -- just like DDG now.

Searx is the way to go

Here's a screenshot of AltaVista's site in February 1999.

Here's a brief history of the WWW VirtLIb. http://vlib.org/admin/history Introduction The WWW Virtual Library (VL) is the oldest catalogue of the Web. It was started by Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of HTML and of the Web itself, in 1991 at CERN in Geneva.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
Good point, but I still want to make DuckDuckGo my main search engine, because if growth continues at the current rate, at least it will serve as a competitor to Google in the future, which will provide an opportunity for more public interest/funding in personal privacy/open source.

+1 for Searx. Great tool! (but I like DDG as well :-) )
Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
searx for life! this is a nice idea too :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
I admit that I am using DDG and startpage, but I hate the fact that they are proprietary. I used Searx for some time, but I found many of the searches to be insufficient. I think I'll give it at try again, though. Are there good tips on how to enhance searches?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
I have used ecosia but i didn't saw that was free software.

One can add more search engines in >Preferences>Engine Usually setting a cookie can improve to keep these selected preferences https://searx.laquadrature.net/preferences Duckgo & Searx (Quadrature du net) both provide via Tor searx : http://searchb5a7tmimez.onion/ DuckDuckgo : http://3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
Yes, citizen.cam.de or searx.me are good ones. I use searx pretty much on a regular basis. Duckduckgo at least from the cipher reading I see on my browser shows that those two searx instances i mentioned are superior in security to duckduckgo's ciphers even if duckduckgo is easier to use for the average person and is more flashy. unless there are more layers that I am unaware of... feel free to check.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Because of Trisquel 7, I have abandoned Google for DuckDuckGo, its default search.
Mangy, searx is everywhere now. It has become quite popular and the searches are very good, it just werks, I'm sure a bright future is ahead for searx :) The couple of new instances added are very good, especially disroot's one
