That's a really interesting point, Perry--a 10% sales tax instead of an

income tax.  What do you think of it? I have thought about it a
little, and

it makes me wonder if a sales tax would, in fact, harm the economy
because

people would stop buying certain luxury items.  I wonder if it
wouldn't

really cause a lot of unforeseen changes.  Maybe people would
start saving a

lot instead of buying and it would cause a depression? What are the

potential good or bad effects this would have? Would this be better
than an

income tax?  I'm really wanting to find the best answer, because
the current

system is insanity and robbery.  izzy

RE: [TruthTalk] Flat Tax?

2005-11-18 Thread Charles Perry Locke

If I was paying 10% at the point of sale, instead of 30% in April, I would
have more money to spend, while still saving the same amount I was before
the NST. The trick is to place a stutory cap on the flat tax and make the
government live within the amount collected, otherwise it would eventually
climb to 30%, and beyond. Keep in mind that with State sales taxes in some
states, the point of sale tax would be close to 20%.

That's a really interesting point, Perry--a 10% sales tax instead of an
income tax. What do you think of it? I have thought about it a little, and
it makes me wonder if a sales tax would, in fact, harm the economy because
people would stop buying certain luxury items. I wonder if it wouldn't
really cause a lot of unforeseen changes. Maybe people would start saving
a

lot instead of buying and it would cause a depression? What are the
potential good or bad effects this would have? Would this be better than an
income tax? I'm really wanting to find the best answer, because the
current

system is insanity and robbery. izzy

Here's a new subject that I don't believe we have argued about before, so
let's do it. :-) What do you think about the concept of a "flat income tax"
instead of a graduated tax? I think it's a good idea and fair because
everyone pay the same percentage (not same amount) based on their income.
Some think it is unfair to the poor because they "can't afford" it, so
others who are more productive should pay taxes for the poor as well.

At dinner with friends tonight a man told me "You only think a flat tax is
a

good idea because you don't know what it is like to be poor." I thought
that was rather insulting, as what he was really saying was "I have
