[TV orNotTV] Oprah considering following Roseanne

2011-12-31 Thread Bob in Jersey
Into farming in Hawai'i, that is.

Buried in an AP piece about her (required by Discovery shareholders)
forward-looking stuff about OWN.

[TV orNotTV] Same stuff, new year, this time in NY...

2011-12-31 Thread Bob in Jersey
...where a subscriber-fee dispute (network wants a rate north of
ESPN's!) could drive the MSG channels off TWC:

http://goo.gl/LDHez

Interesting fact about MSG.com: Selecting a zip code and cable/telco/
satellite provider will often only get you listings for the HD
versions of their (available) networks. Have they really gotten as
ignorant as PBS stations?

In a related story, a while back TWC in the Carolinas (maybe elsewhere as
well) pulled the MSG-owned Fuse, saying that hardly anyone watched it. Also
floated about, using subscriber fees to subsidize a network that no one can
theoretically watch in this neck of the words.

[TV orNotTV] Re: Fox revives FXM mark

2011-12-31 Thread K.M. Richards
The real problem FMC has is that they recycle the same films too
frequently, and after a while viewers get the feeling that they've
seen everything in the library ... so they stop checking the channel
to see what's on.

FXM will probably backfire on them, because being on the same channel
as FMC, viewers are going to expect commercial-free presentations,
just like TCM. AMC saw a decline in viewers when they started taking
commercial breaks.

Maybe this is an offshoot of Mitt Romney's plan to commercialize
PBS ...

[TV orNotTV] Possible title confusion

2011-12-31 Thread Bob in Jersey
Didn't NatGeo have a recent series called Amazing which was
basically Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern without Zim?

Travel is shortly unveiling its own Amazing Eats, another Adam Man
V Food Richman vehicle, along with another Zim offering, Bizarre
Foods America, where presumably he could come to this area and try
scrapple, if he didn't already in previous Bizarre seasons...

Isn't their studio the same building Povich was in before he moved
with the rest of the NBCU Talk TV/NBC Sports Net gang to CT?

[TV orNotTV] Did Someone Send Rupert Murdoch a Twitterer Machine?

2011-12-31 Thread Wesley McGee
A recent new and *verified* account:

http://twitter.com/rupertmurdoch

Thus far: He's read and liked the Rational Optimist. He felt the Steve Jobs
biography was interesting, but unfair. He's enjoying his vacation. He hopes
Clooney gets an Oscar for Descendants.
