[TV orNotTV] Olsen Twins Not Coming Back to 'Full House' Reboot

2015-05-22 Thread Mark Jeffries
Mary-Kate and Ashley say that they're too busy with their various
businesses to at least appear on one episode of Fuller House, Netflix's
reboot of the 90s sitcom beloved by Millenials, but wish everyone well:

http://www.thewrap.com/mary-kate-and-ashley-olsen-wont-return-for-netflix-full-house-revival/?utm_source=newsletterutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=mailchimp

Which now leaves Bob Saget and Lori Laughlin as the only original cast
members not committed to at least one episode. Candace D.J. Cameron
Bure, Jodie Stephanie Sweeten. John Uncle Jesse Stamos and Andrea
Kimmy Gibler Barber are going to star in the series, with Dave Joey
Coulier to appear in at least one episode. Netflix is shooting for release
next year.

About seven months after 'Honey Boo Boo' and all her kin disappeared from

[TV orNotTV] Re: Late show finale

2015-05-22 Thread JW
The cost of building such a network is probably still enormous...
someone,
somewhere, always seems to own the rights to someone's likenesses, and if
it's a musical artist, their repertory as well... and it doesn't help
that
some of said rights-holders repeatedly pester our legislators to extend
applicable law so they'll keep 'em.

I'm no expert, but I think the standard contracts allow for rebroadcast.
The legal problems come with other media, like DVDs, which is where those
demands kick in. Even now, production companies will save a few bucks by
not licensing music rights for DVDs before it's obvious that they'll be
successful enough to make that an issue.

The harder part for Kevin's network (an interesting idea) would be dealing
with all the material that was topical at the time. Johnny's jokes about
Earl Butz don't resonate much any more, even among people who remember him.

There's a UK sitcom I liked called Drop The Dead Donkey which was a sort
of Murphy Brown type of show that featured jokes about current events and
politicians. For reruns, which is when I discovered it, it was preceded by
a five or ten second Chyron and narrator who gave the date the episode
aired, and the two or three people or events in the news that were going to
be joked about.

Problem solved in five or ten seconds.

[TV orNotTV] Re: ABC Fall Annotated

2015-05-22 Thread Bob Jersey

Moi, back on the 13th this month:

Bristology addendum: the b'cast net will simulcast the ESPYs and that one
NFL postseason matchup currently held by ESPN.

 MediaLife http://www.medialifemagazine.com/espn-upfront-more-with-abc/
 (link)

Joel McHale will host the awards show
http://www.tvweek.com/in-depth/2015/05/joel-mchale-set-to-host-the-2015-espys-on-abc-july-15/,

per pee-arr found by TVWeek (link).

And, just for closure:

Joe Hass, to moi that same day:

Question: does anyone remember during the NFLN/CBS simulcasts if the spots
were the same on both outlets?

 A *Variety*
http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/cbs-unprecedented-push-nfl-thursday-night-football-1201297011/

(link) article when the package was about to début in '14 mentioned
(emphasis added):

The two networks are pooling their talent and resources for “TNF.” “The NFL
was very clear that this was going to be a co-branded production and a
co-branded property with the NFL Network,” says [CBS Sports honcho Sean]
McManus. Both network logos appear in the graphics. NFL
Network on-air talent, including analyst Deion Sanders, will appear on the
CBS pregame show, while CBS studio analysts will appear on NFL Network’s
pregame show, which starts earlier. CBS’s top announcing team of Jim Nantz
and Phil Simms will handle all the games, whether simulcast or not, and
CBS’s “A” production team will run the show. *The same commercials will run
on both networks during the simulcast. *Ratings for the simulcast will be
cumed; McManus expects the simulcast will increase the Eye’s overall
ratings.

Assuming the NFL hits typical ratings for pro football, CBS will be able to
use the “TNF” simulcasts to promote its other programming to a vast
audience. *But those watching on NFL Network won’t see all CBS promos*:
The cable net is obliged to give more time to local providers than CBS must
give to local affiliates, so some Eye promos will be replaced by local
spots on NFL Network.
